Suggested April 2024 6 Ways To Fix Battery Life Problems Of Your Ios 8 Device

For us iOS 8 users, our wish is for Apple to solve the battery life problems. While every update has its own flaws and improvements, the recent iOS 8.2 update was reported to be a stable one, maintaining a solid battery life for the iPhone 5 according to GottaMobile. However, if you feel that your device consumes a lot of battery life, perhaps you need to apply these tips to fix them.

With a few tweaks, installations of third-party apps, and changes in settings, we can optimise a device’s battery performance.

1. Toggle Off: Location Services, Background App Refresh, and System Services

It’s time to get around the General Settings and tweak these seemingly hidden settings that drain your battery faster. Turning off the Location Services will save you tons of battery life. You can also scroll down to System Services and toggle off each function on the list. This is quite tricky because even if you’ve toggled off “Location Services,” they still run in the background and are toggled on. Lastly, go to “Background App Refresh” and do the same thing.

2. Use Battery Management and Diagnostic Apps

Cheetah Mobile Inc.’s Battery Doctor is one of the popular battery management apps for Android, and while it ranks pretty well on Google Play Store, you can also install it on your iOS 8 device to systematize your charging times and monitor charging cycles. You may also try System Status Lite as your battery and device management and diagnostic app.

3. Decrease Auto-Lock Time and Adjust Display

Change the setting to “1 Minute” so it’ll automatically turn off the display when not in use. Don’t forget to dim the display as well as turned-off notification banners that keep on popping up and activating your device’s display; toggle off the “Auto Brightness” and adjust it manually to decrease the brightness.

4. Hard Reboot If Battery Temperature Increases

5. Refrain from Using Dynamic Wallpapers

These animated wallpapers may look good on screen, but they’re also taking up the device’s accelerometer and graphics processor which adds up to the internal process and incrementally eats up the battery life.

6. Airplane Mode When Connected to Wi-Fi Spot

If you’re connected to a WiFi spot and most of your communications are via social media and instant messaging apps, you might as well turn off your cellular data network to save more battery and switch to Airplane Mode. You can also speed up the charging time when the device is on Airplane Mode.

Other Practical Tips

Thanks to the updated iOS 8, we can preview the battery usage and check out the apps that drain the battery while we’re using it. There are other ways to extend the battery life – you can tweak your settings in Accessibility, deactivate Siri, Bluetooth and WiFi, don’t “Push” your emails to your mailbox, and deactivate the notifications of some apps you don’t use.

Is there anything I missed? Feel free to drop your tips for our readers on how they can fix battery issues on their iOS 8-powered devices. What do you think of the latest software update and how it affects battery issues?

8 Ways To Fix : Default Boot Device Missing Or Boot Failed

Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed is a boot error that happens when Windows fails to detect a boot device after powering on. This may happen due to misconfigured, corrupt or a damaged boot drive.

Simple fixes include restarting the device again, reseating the boot drive and reattaching any loose or disconnected cables. Additionally, replacing/repairing any damaged or faulty components or removing any bootable peripherals can also help fix the issue.

To fix the Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed error, check if the boot media is detected on BIOS. If any boot media cannot be found, you will need to inspect the hardware for any issues.

Components such as the boot storage media, cables or the memory may be unplugged, damaged or have malfunctioning components.  you will need to inspect each element carefully and fix or replace them.

Now, carefully remove the side panel to get access to the internals of the computer

Check for any disconnected, misaligned or damaged wires

If problems are found, reconnect them properly or replace them

Reseat, repair or replace if any damages are found

For laptops,

Once inside, check for the same issues described above and reseat, replace or repair the affected components

The first thing we’ll be doing is to manage the BIOS settings. If by any chance the BIOS settings like the date/time and the Legacy/UEFI boot mode are changed or modified, the system may be unable to boot.

Turn off your device and reboot it

Before the logo splash screen appears, repeatedly press the BIOS key (Function keys or Del key) and enter the BIOS

Sometimes, due to incorrect date and time settings in BIOS, the device may throw this error. It could happen due to reasons such as misconfigured settings, problems with the CMOS battery, CMOS connection issues or the battery becoming old.

Change the values to the current date and time values

Save the changes by pressing F10 or Y/N keys while exiting

 Reboot your device normally

Changing the Boot mode from UEFI to Legacy can sometimes help your device detect the boot drive. As sometimes UEFI boot mode can be incompatible with the device. To change the boot mode.

Search for the Advanced Boot Options or Boot in the BIOS

Save and apply changes

Reboot your device normally

The next solution is now to change the boot order from the BIOS. If the primary boot partition has been changed or is reset from the BIOS, this error could appear. To fix this, resetting the boot order or changing the boot partition cloud help solve the issue.

Open the BIOS and search for the Boot option

Save and exit the BIOS

Restart your device and check if the device boots normally

If changing the boot order did not work, the error could be appearing because of corrupt system files. To fix, you will need to perform repairs from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). The Automatic Repair function detects and troubleshoots any startup errors.

Download the media creation tool and create a recovery media

Power off your device and insert the recovery media

Before the Windows/manufacturer logo appears, repeatedly press the boot key (varies according to model, refer to product documentation or support website)

On the boot menu, select the recovery media as the boot drive

Inside, select the keyboard and language preference

Additionally, if this method does not work, you can try and reset the PC while retaining all the personal data on your device. Resetting the PC will however, remove all the system and  hardware configurations.

Note: Changing the storage controller mode from IDE/AHCI to RAID will cause loss of data. Make sure to backup or clone the disk to a separate storage media before attempting.

Another cause that might be triggering this error could be due to misconfigured storage controller settings. To fix this, you will need to change the storage controller setting from the BIOS

On the BIOS, search for settings labelled SATA control, Configure SATA or similar

Save the changes and reboot your device normally

Note: This fix is only applicable for devices supporting Legacy boot mode

If the boot partition has been deactivated, this can cause your device to fail to boot. To fix this, you will need to re-enable the boot partition from disabled to active in the command prompt.

Boot your device to the Windows recovery environment by using the recovery media

Select the keyboard and language settings

Remove the installation media and restart your device normally

Incase of a corrupt boot sector, you will need to rebuild it from command prompt to solve the issue.  To do this, first boot to the Windows Recovery Environment. Depending on the type of partition, MBR or GPT, you can use two methods to fix the boot sector

For drives having MBR partition

Open Command prompt in the Windows recovery environment

To repair drives having GPT partition

Close the command prompt window and restart your device to see if the issue has been resolved

Note: you will need a storage device with a capacity of at least 8GB, internet connection and a working PC to perform this fix.

The final software fix is to reinstall Windows using the recovery media. This process installs a fresh copy of Windows in the device. This essentially eliminates any software issues related to the boot drive.

First, create a bootable recovery media and insert it on your affected device. Make sure that the device is powered off

On the Windows Setup screen, follow the on-screen prompts

Let the process complete and boot the device normally

If the device fails to boot or is stuck in a boot loop, you may need to change the boot priority from the recovery media to Windows Boot Manager

How To Check Airpods Battery Life

AirPods have quickly risen as one of the most popular choices for Apple users to listen to music, podcasts and movies. While using your AirPods, the last thing you want is for them to completely lose battery power while you are in the middle of an important call or exciting movie scene. Thankfully, your AirPods make it incredibly easy to track your battery life. Here are some simple ways you can check your AirPods’ battery life.

Easy as a Snap

One of the quickest and easiest ways to check battery life on your AirPods is to simply open the case. Whenever your AirPods are in the case next to your iPhone or iPad, open the case and look at your home screen. After a few seconds, you will see a prompt at the bottom of your screen showing you the battery status of your AirPods and the charging case.

On a Mac (iMac, MacBook/Pro) Adding Widgets

With the release of iOS 14, there are now two different methods to check your AirPods battery life using widgets. Swiping right from the home screen or lock screen as well as adding widgets to your home screen directly can help you look at battery life on your AirPods. For the home or lock screens, swipe right so you see your Today View.

1. Scroll to the bottom and tap on edit. When the available widgets appear, find the battery life widget and tap on “Add” or the “+” button so that it appears in the list.

2. You can drag the widget around so that it appears at the top, bottom or anywhere in the middle.

Note that the battery widget does not just show your AirPods battery life but also shows battery life for your iPhone and any other connected devices like Apple Pencil, Apple Watch, etc.

Adding the battery widget to your home screen is another quick and easy way to track battery life.

1. Start by touching and holding an empty area on your home screen until the apps start to jiggle.

2. When you see the “+” sign appear at the top of the upper left of your screen, tap on it.

3. Locate the battery widget. As you do, you will notice that you have multiple size options for the widget, so choose whichever one works best for you.

Ask Siri

When you need to check battery life but also need to stay hands free, Siri to the rescue. Say “Hey Siri” and ask, “How much battery life is left on my AirPods?” Alternatively, you can also say, “Hey Siri, AirPods Battery Life.” Most variations of these phrases will work and, with a successful request to Siri, will then read out or show your battery life onscreen.

AirPods Max No Paired Device

When all other methods fail or are not available, you can always check battery life on your AirPods from the charging case. Open up the case and check the color of the little LED light. If it shows as green, the AirPods have more than 50% of their charge available. If it shows amber, they are less than 50% charged.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch does so much it can even show you battery life for your AirPods.

1. Start by swiping up from the bottom of the watch face to show the Control Center.

2. Inside the Control Center, tap on the battery percentage icon which initially starts by just showing the battery life of the Apple Watch.

3. If AirPods are connected, you will see their battery life underneath the Apple Watch percentage remaining.

Final Thoughts

Using any of the methods available on this list should keep you from ever finding yourself without AirPods battery life. Now all you need to do is become a master at stopping your AirPods from switching between devices automatically.

How To Auto Toggle Your Internet Connection To Save Battery Life

Have you ever used a battery saving app on your Android phone that shut down the Internet connection the moment you turn off the screen, even though you are downloading a file or streaming music in the background? While these battery saving apps can help you to improve battery life, they prevented you from running things in the background. If you are looking for a way to save battery life without affecting the process in the background, CleverConnectivity is the app for you.

CleverConnectivity is an Android application that can auto-toggle the Internet connection when your screen is OFF. What makes it different from other battery saving apps is that it can cleverly detect if there is any task (that requires Internet access) running in the background and keep your Internet connection until the task is completed. It can also wake up at certain interval to check for emails, receive incoming messages or notification.

Usage

1. Install CleverConnectivity from the Play Store.

2. Open the app, you should see a list of options that you can select. The first part of the screen is just to give it permission to manage your 3G and WiFi connection when the screen is OFF.

Scrolling down the list, you can configure whether it should auto-sync at regular interval or turn the WiFi off completely when there is no known network nearby. You can also configure the sleep hours to turn off the Internet connection completely.

The last of the list is also the most important part. CleverConnectivity is based on three parameters: Time ON, Time ON, and Usage Check Interval. Time ON is the amount of time the Internet connection will stay alive after the screen is OFF. Time OFF is the interval where the Internet connection is OFF and the Usage Check Intervals is the amount of seconds to check for data usage in the background.

This is how it works: Once the screen is OFF, CleverConnectivity will keep connectivity alive for the time defined in “Time On” setting. Then it will check if data is used for a period as defined in the Usage Check Interval. If data usage is detected, connectivity will be kept for another “Time ON” interval. If data is NOT used, connectivity will be shut down for the interval defined in “Time OFF” setting. After this, the cycle will repeat itself again until the screen is turned back on.

Note: Personally, I would recommend the settings of 15 -20 mins for “TIME OFF”, 1 minute for “TIME ON” and 5 seconds for “Usage Check Interval”.

3. Lastly, tap the “Save Preferences” button and it will start running in the background.

Noting that CleverConnectivity only runs when your screen is OFF and it only use a minimal amount of storage space, CPU and resources to run in the background, it is definitely one of the many app I would recommend for improving battery life. One thing though, if your battery drain is due to long hours of gameplay, or surfing the web without turning the screen off, this app is not going to be useful to you.

Weight, Size, And Battery Life: Iphone X Vs Iphone 8 Vs Iphone 7

Rather than announcing just one new iPhone this year with two different screen sizes, Apple shook things up by announcing an entirely new iPhone X with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display alongside their typical 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models.

There’s bound to be some confusion about some of the most important specs between the devices, so in this piece, we’ll talk about the differences in weight, dimensions, and battery life as we do every year.

Battery Life

Battery life is perhaps one of the biggest factors when it comes to choosing the right iPhone for you. Typically, the Plus-sized models get improved battery life because of the larger surface area that makes packing a bigger battery possible, but it’s still good to know the details.

First, we’ll compare the smaller handsets to the iPhone X:

From here, we can see that the iPhone 8 lasts about as long as an iPhone 7 would, but an iPhone X can last up to 2 hours longer on a single charge than an iPhone 7 or 8 would. There are differences across the board, from talk time, to internet use, to audio/video playback.

On the other hand, only the iPhone 8 and iPhone X support fast-charge, allowing your battery to charge up to 50% from dead within half an hour. These are also the only two handsets that support wireless charging with a Qi-compatible wireless cradle.

Next up, we’ll compare the Plus-sized devices to the iPhone X:

In this data, we can see that the iPhone 8 Plus lasts about the same as the predecessor, but this is where the iPhone X starts to lag behind a little bit. It’s on par with the Plus-sized handsets concerning talk time and audio playback, but the Plus-sized handsets marginally beat the iPhone X on battery life in both the internet usage and video playback sectors.

Just like with the smaller 4.7-inch handsets, the 5.5-inch handsets follow the same fast-charge rules. Only the 8 Plus and the X support fast-charging capabilities, allowing you to juice-up quickly from 0-50% in 30 minutes. Moreover, only the 8 Plus and the X support wireless charging with Qi-compatible cradles.

Size & Weight

One of the other most popular questions is how the device will feel in your hand on a daily basis, and for that reason, we’ve got a comprehensive comparison of size and weight between the three handsets to show you.

Once again, we’ll compare the smaller handsets to the iPhone X first:

What we see here is that there’s a marginal increase in depth, height, and width between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 that you probably won’t even notice on a day-to-day basis. In fact, you probably wouldn’t even see it if the devices were right beside one another. Regarding their weight, the iPhone 8 is about 7.2% heavier than the iPhone 7.

Most you are probably interested in the iPhone X, and it’s fairly larger than both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. In fact, it’s 3.9% taller, 5.7% wider, and 7.1% thicker than the iPhone 7. Regarding weight, iPhone X is 26.1% heavier than the iPhone 7 and 17.6% heavier than the iPhone 8.

In conclusion, iPhone X is beefier than either the iPhone 7 or iPhone 8, so that might take some getting used to if you’re making the switch.

Next up, we’ll compare the Plus-sized devices to the iPhone X:

In this case, the Plus-sized devices are still the king of the roost. The iPhone X is both smaller and lighter than both Plus-sized models. The dimensions are nearly the same between the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus, but the iPhone 8 Plus weighs about 7.5% more than the iPhone 7 Plus does.

Comparing the Plus-sized handsets to the iPhone X, this is where the numbers start to get interesting. The iPhone X is much smaller than both Plus-sized handsets; it’s 9.3% shorter and 9.1% narrower, than the iPhone 7 Plus, but 3.4% thicker. Regarding weight, the iPhone X is 7.4% lighter than the iPhone 7 Plus and 13.9% lighter than the iPhone 8 Plus.

That said if you’re using a Plus-sized device right now and you’re considering the iPhone X, it will feel a lot like you’ve just bought an iPhone 8 or iPhone 7 until you glance at the mesmerizingly-large display, which dwarfs even the Plus-sized handsets.

Conclusion

Keep in mind that the iPhone 7/7 Plus and iPhone 8/8 Plus are nearly the same size as one another, so cases for each handset should be backward-compatible. With that in mind, if you have an iPhone 7/7Plus and you’re upgrading to the iPhone 8/8 Plus, you shouldn’t really need to buy a new case.

If you’re getting the iPhone X, on the other hand, Apple has never made an iPhone quite like it before. You’ll almost certainly need to buy yourself a whole new case to fit the new handset, regardless of whether you owned a 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch handset previously.

In terms of battery life, the iPhone 8 Plus is probably the way to go, but most people will want the latest and greatest features of the iPhone X, so a slight trade-off in battery life probably won’t make or break the demand for it.

If you’re also considering an Apple Watch Series 3 to go along with your new handset this year, then you might want to read up on how the Series 3 compares to the previous-generation Series 2.
