Suggested December 2023 8 Ways To Fix : Default Boot Device Missing Or Boot Failed

Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed is a boot error that happens when Windows fails to detect a boot device after powering on. This may happen due to misconfigured, corrupt or a damaged boot drive.

Simple fixes include restarting the device again, reseating the boot drive and reattaching any loose or disconnected cables. Additionally, replacing/repairing any damaged or faulty components or removing any bootable peripherals can also help fix the issue.

To fix the Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed error, check if the boot media is detected on BIOS. If any boot media cannot be found, you will need to inspect the hardware for any issues.

Components such as the boot storage media, cables or the memory may be unplugged, damaged or have malfunctioning components.  you will need to inspect each element carefully and fix or replace them.

Now, carefully remove the side panel to get access to the internals of the computer

Check for any disconnected, misaligned or damaged wires

If problems are found, reconnect them properly or replace them

Reseat, repair or replace if any damages are found

For laptops,

Once inside, check for the same issues described above and reseat, replace or repair the affected components

The first thing we’ll be doing is to manage the BIOS settings. If by any chance the BIOS settings like the date/time and the Legacy/UEFI boot mode are changed or modified, the system may be unable to boot.

Turn off your device and reboot it

Before the logo splash screen appears, repeatedly press the BIOS key (Function keys or Del key) and enter the BIOS

Sometimes, due to incorrect date and time settings in BIOS, the device may throw this error. It could happen due to reasons such as misconfigured settings, problems with the CMOS battery, CMOS connection issues or the battery becoming old.

Change the values to the current date and time values

Save the changes by pressing F10 or Y/N keys while exiting

 Reboot your device normally

Changing the Boot mode from UEFI to Legacy can sometimes help your device detect the boot drive. As sometimes UEFI boot mode can be incompatible with the device. To change the boot mode.

Search for the Advanced Boot Options or Boot in the BIOS

Save and apply changes

Reboot your device normally

The next solution is now to change the boot order from the BIOS. If the primary boot partition has been changed or is reset from the BIOS, this error could appear. To fix this, resetting the boot order or changing the boot partition cloud help solve the issue.

Open the BIOS and search for the Boot option

Save and exit the BIOS

Restart your device and check if the device boots normally

If changing the boot order did not work, the error could be appearing because of corrupt system files. To fix, you will need to perform repairs from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). The Automatic Repair function detects and troubleshoots any startup errors.

Download the media creation tool and create a recovery media

Power off your device and insert the recovery media

Before the Windows/manufacturer logo appears, repeatedly press the boot key (varies according to model, refer to product documentation or support website)

On the boot menu, select the recovery media as the boot drive

Inside, select the keyboard and language preference

Additionally, if this method does not work, you can try and reset the PC while retaining all the personal data on your device. Resetting the PC will however, remove all the system and  hardware configurations.

Note: Changing the storage controller mode from IDE/AHCI to RAID will cause loss of data. Make sure to backup or clone the disk to a separate storage media before attempting.

Another cause that might be triggering this error could be due to misconfigured storage controller settings. To fix this, you will need to change the storage controller setting from the BIOS

On the BIOS, search for settings labelled SATA control, Configure SATA or similar

Save the changes and reboot your device normally

Note: This fix is only applicable for devices supporting Legacy boot mode

If the boot partition has been deactivated, this can cause your device to fail to boot. To fix this, you will need to re-enable the boot partition from disabled to active in the command prompt.

Boot your device to the Windows recovery environment by using the recovery media

Select the keyboard and language settings

Remove the installation media and restart your device normally

Incase of a corrupt boot sector, you will need to rebuild it from command prompt to solve the issue.  To do this, first boot to the Windows Recovery Environment. Depending on the type of partition, MBR or GPT, you can use two methods to fix the boot sector

For drives having MBR partition

Open Command prompt in the Windows recovery environment

To repair drives having GPT partition

Close the command prompt window and restart your device to see if the issue has been resolved

Note: you will need a storage device with a capacity of at least 8GB, internet connection and a working PC to perform this fix.

The final software fix is to reinstall Windows using the recovery media. This process installs a fresh copy of Windows in the device. This essentially eliminates any software issues related to the boot drive.

First, create a bootable recovery media and insert it on your affected device. Make sure that the device is powered off

On the Windows Setup screen, follow the on-screen prompts

Let the process complete and boot the device normally

If the device fails to boot or is stuck in a boot loop, you may need to change the boot priority from the recovery media to Windows Boot Manager

How To Add Safe Mode To The Windows 8 Boot Menu

The Process

For this procedure, you’ll have to use the command line to try and figure out some environmental variables as well as use them within a command that can add the safe mode to your boot menu. All chit chat aside, let’s get to work:

1. Start by going into Metro and type “cmd“. The command line’s icon should show up on the left side.

4. Confirm that you want to run “cmd” in the UAC prompt that comes up when the computer switches you to the desktop.

5. Type

in the command line. A load of information will show up. You’ll have to learn how to copy and paste a piece of it in the command line, which is something slightly different to copying and pasting in a desktop application environment.

7. Now, type

d Windows

Safe Mode

You can call it whatever you want if you want to be original, but you might risk not remembering what it’s there for if you don’t use it often.

8. Close the command line, go into Metro again, type “msconfig,” and press “Enter.”

9. Go into the “boot” tab and select the safe mode item.

Speaking of Internet, you can choose to repeat this process to add a separate “safe mode” with networking capabilities and call it “Safe Mode With Networking.” It’s up to you! Here’s the result of our (sort of) little tutorial:

6 Ways To Fix Battery Life Problems Of Your Ios 8 Device

For us iOS 8 users, our wish is for Apple to solve the battery life problems. While every update has its own flaws and improvements, the recent iOS 8.2 update was reported to be a stable one, maintaining a solid battery life for the iPhone 5 according to GottaMobile. However, if you feel that your device consumes a lot of battery life, perhaps you need to apply these tips to fix them.

With a few tweaks, installations of third-party apps, and changes in settings, we can optimise a device’s battery performance.

1. Toggle Off: Location Services, Background App Refresh, and System Services

It’s time to get around the General Settings and tweak these seemingly hidden settings that drain your battery faster. Turning off the Location Services will save you tons of battery life. You can also scroll down to System Services and toggle off each function on the list. This is quite tricky because even if you’ve toggled off “Location Services,” they still run in the background and are toggled on. Lastly, go to “Background App Refresh” and do the same thing.

2. Use Battery Management and Diagnostic Apps

Cheetah Mobile Inc.’s Battery Doctor is one of the popular battery management apps for Android, and while it ranks pretty well on Google Play Store, you can also install it on your iOS 8 device to systematize your charging times and monitor charging cycles. You may also try System Status Lite as your battery and device management and diagnostic app.

3. Decrease Auto-Lock Time and Adjust Display

Change the setting to “1 Minute” so it’ll automatically turn off the display when not in use. Don’t forget to dim the display as well as turned-off notification banners that keep on popping up and activating your device’s display; toggle off the “Auto Brightness” and adjust it manually to decrease the brightness.

4. Hard Reboot If Battery Temperature Increases

5. Refrain from Using Dynamic Wallpapers

These animated wallpapers may look good on screen, but they’re also taking up the device’s accelerometer and graphics processor which adds up to the internal process and incrementally eats up the battery life.

6. Airplane Mode When Connected to Wi-Fi Spot

If you’re connected to a WiFi spot and most of your communications are via social media and instant messaging apps, you might as well turn off your cellular data network to save more battery and switch to Airplane Mode. You can also speed up the charging time when the device is on Airplane Mode.

Other Practical Tips

Thanks to the updated iOS 8, we can preview the battery usage and check out the apps that drain the battery while we’re using it. There are other ways to extend the battery life – you can tweak your settings in Accessibility, deactivate Siri, Bluetooth and WiFi, don’t “Push” your emails to your mailbox, and deactivate the notifications of some apps you don’t use.

Is there anything I missed? Feel free to drop your tips for our readers on how they can fix battery issues on their iOS 8-powered devices. What do you think of the latest software update and how it affects battery issues?

6 Ways To Fix “Operation Failed” On Outlook

The operation failed error on Outlook is a common error that can appear in several variations, such as “The operation failed. An object could not be found” or “The operation failed because of a registry or installation problem.” You can encounter such errors, especially when sending/receiving emails, sending a meeting request to a shared calendar, or sending an email with attachments.

In some cases, the error message itself recommends restarting the app to resolve the issue, and sometimes it works successfully. But, since each error message can originate due to several reasons, you may have to apply various solutions for your specific problem.

Before you apply the fixes, always consider exiting the Outlook app except when you need to change an Outlook setting. Also, restart your PC after each fix so that changes are made successfully.

Meanwhile, check if you get any errors in the Outlook web version and keep using it until the error message is resolved on the desktop app.

Some Outlook versions have been known to have issues that can cause the “operation failed” error. However, they all have been patched in the updated version. So, you can easily resolve the issue by downloading the latest updates for your Outlook application.

Select Office Account from the sidebar.

Wait for a while to finish downloading updates.

Restart Outlook and see if it’s working as expected.

While enabling the compatibility mode helps run programs made for earlier versions of Windows, it can prevent certain features in the newer Outlook versions and give you the above error. So, check if Outlook is running in compatibility mode and disable it if it’s enabled.

Go to the Compatibility tab.

One of the main reasons behind the “operation failed” error is due to a corrupt Outlook profile. When this happens, you may get an error such as “The operation failed. An object could not be found.” In this case, you can resolve the issue by creating a new profile and using it instead of the old one.

Once you have a new profile, select it under the Always use this profile option.

Restart Outlook.

Similar to the corrupt Outlook profile, your Outlook Data File (PST) can also get corrupt. Luckily, Outlook has a built-in tool called “ScanPST.exe,” which detects issues in a PST file and automatically repairs them. Depending upon which Outlook version you have installed, its location can vary slightly.

Nonetheless, here’s how to use it to repair your corrupt PST files.

Exit the Outlook app.

Then, look for chúng tôi where you installed the Outlook app. Irrespective of which Outlook version you use, you can find them in the following locations.

Once the repair process is finished, check if the errors have been resolved.

Although add-ins provide various useful functionalities to perform a certain task faster, they can cause issues with the Outlook app. This happens when one of your installed add-ins is either incompatible or corrupted. Likewise, they can even conflict with the app and cause the above error.

To know if the add-ins are causing the issue, you can run Outlook in safe mode. Then, you can either disable or remove the problematic add-in.

Select the Add-ins tab from the sidebar.

Sometimes you can get the “operation failed” error while sending/saving a message inside the Drafts folder or if that message contains lots of inline images. In this case, you need to use the HTML text format to fix the issue.

Check if you can send the message now.

How To Boot Into Xolo Q1000 Recovery Mode

What is Recovery?

A recovery is a separate bootable partition on your Android device that you can use to install system updates and repair (factory reset) your device. A lot more can be done using a custom recovery, but the stock recovery that comes pre-installed on your Android device is limited to these features only. And FYI, these features are integrated into the Android OS as well — when you chose to factory reset your device from device settings or install an OTA update, your device reboots and boots into the stock recovery to finish the job.

The stock recovery that comes pre-installed on your device doesn’t support touchscreen mechanism. You’ll have to use the Power and Volume buttons available on your device to select and navigate between options in the recovery.

There are multiple methods to boot your Xolo Q1000 in recovery mode. The most handy (and hardware coded) method is about pressing a combination of keys for a few seconds on your Xolo Q1000 . Others are software based, let’s have a look them below:

1) Boot into Xolo Q1000 Recovery Mode Using

This method is a fail-proof method that’ll always work for you, unless you’ve broken one of hardware keys. In such a case you’d be left with only the other two methods discussed below.

Power off your device and wait 4-5 seconds after lights go off.

└ In recovery, use Volume Up and Down keys to navigate between options and Power key to select an option.

2) Boot into Xolo Q1000 Recovery Mode Using

ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, a tool used to send terminal commands to a Android device via a PC command line. ADB requires a bit of setup, but it gets the job done with much lesser effort than hardware buttons, so pretty useful in cases when you’ve to boot in recovery mode frequently. Also, if (for some reason) your hardware buttons aren’t working than this is a very good alternative to boot into recovery mode.

And make sure you’ve proper drivers installed for your device. You can download driver from this page →

Extract the file (ADB chúng tôi you downloaded from the link above to a separate folder on your computer

Prepare your phone

Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times to enable developer options

Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” checkbox (under Debugging section)

└ If the script shows any error than that means either your device is not connected or you don’t have proper driver for your device installed on your PC. For help with driver, check this page →

FYI, the ‘Boot into Recovery Mode.bat‘ script file that we used above to boot your device into recovery mode just uses one line of command:

adb reboot recovery

If you already have ADB setup on your computer and you know how to use it, then you may just use the command given above to boot into recovery mode.

3) Boot into Xolo Q1000 Recovery Mode Using

Quick Boot (Reboot) APP

Yes! There’s an app for rebooting your phone into recovery mode, and it’s the most easier of the methods we discussed above. But it won’t work unless you’ve root access on your device, and since not everyone roos their device, we’ve put this as the last method here.

Open the app and grant Root Access

Select ‘Recovery‘ from the list of options and it’ll boot your device into recovery mode

That’s all.
