Apple Music for Android is gaining an integrated sleep timer function with time increments ranging from 15 minutes to 1 hour, plus other extensive options..

Apple is currently testing a built-on sleep timer feature in its Apple Music Android client, with a public release expected in a matter of few weeks.

After setting an alarm with available time increments ranging from fifteen minutes to one hour, you’ll see a live countdown within the app.

The built-in feature allows you to gently fall asleep and wake up in the morning to your favorite playlist, artist, tune and so forth.

Apple Music for Android is getting a sleep timer

The feature appears to be pretty well thought out. You can set your timer in fixed increments or use one of the criteria for when the music should start or stop playing. Once you’ve set the timer, live countdown is display throughout the app. When the timer runs out, your preferred music will start or stop playing, which is great if you’d like to fall asleep or wake up in the morning to your favorite tune.

Live countdown persists through different selections in the app so you can always shut off the sleep timer with a quick flip of the switch. The built-in timer feature works with songs, albums, artists, playlists and radio stations. You can also set conditions for when the current song, album or playlist ends, 9to5Google reports.

How to set a sleep timer in Apple Music for Android

In the Apple Music app for Android version 3.10 or later, tap the three-dotted icon next to the song, artist or album name to access the option in the contextual menu.

Launch Apple Music for Android version 3.10 or later.

In Apple Music for Android, access the Now Playing feature.

Hit the three-dotted icon next to the song, artist or album name.

Select the “Sleep Timer” option near the end of the contextual menu.

Choose between time increments or special conditions to activate the timer.

Time increments range from fifteen minutes to one hour. Does Apple Music for iPhone have a built-in sleep timer?

No, Apple Music for iOS does not feature a sleep timer within the app. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a sleep timer feature for Apple Music. 2023 Apple Watch Could Sport A Sleep Monitor

For all its integrated fitness and health-tracking features, Apple Watch is unable to measure your sleep out of the box. That could change next year, according to a new report Tuesday.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is reporting that Apple is currently testing a sleep monitor for a future version of Apple Watch.

The company has been using the sleep-tracking feature for several months with testers at secret sites around its Cupertino, California, headquarters.

If the functionality is successful in the testing stages, the company plans to add it to the Apple Watch by 2023, according to people familiar with the work.

The report doesn’t make it clear if Apple’s implementation of “a sleep monitor” may require new sensors or if this is something that could be brought to older models via a firmware update.

The Health app already sports sections dedicated to sleep analysis.

There are many third-party watchOS apps on App Store focused on providing sleep analysis based on data from the device’s onboard sensors.

The vast majority of these apps write data to the Health app.

From the onset, the Health app has included a section for sleep analysis data. Aside from third-party apps, the Health app can also pull in sleep-related information from third-party sleep monitors and the alarm clock function in iOS’s Clock app (hours slept data).

The Clock app sports basic sleep-tracking with hours slept data written to the Health app.

There’s just one problem: battery strain.

Here we go again, comparing battery life of fitness trackers to that of a general-purpose smartwatch like Apple Watch that does so much more than track workouts.

Some options may include Apple increasing the Watch’s battery life or creating a way to run sleep tracking overnight as part of a low-power mode. It could also just require a battery charge in the morning.

So I’ve been using apps like Sleep++ and AutoSleep for years now to measure the duration and quality of my sleep. Yes, doing so means I’m usually not waking up to a fully charged device as I would have had I left my watch on the charger overnight.

No, this isn’t a biggie for me—far form it. There are worse things in life than waking up to a half-charged watch. Besides, I just leave my watch charging when I’m doing my morning routine. By the time I’m done and ready to pop out, I’m usually near 100 percent charge.

That’s good enough for me.

AutoSleep is one of the best apps for tracking your sleep.

There are no technical reasons against bringing sleep analysis to older watches with a software update. Apple being Apple, it could choose to limit such a feature to 2023 devices to boost sales. Another reason could be avoiding dealing with customers who might complain about their watch’s battery losing its charge due to a battery-sucking feature like sleep tracking.

To be honest there is no definite path and there should not be one also. The real essence of data science is people from different backgrounds and technicalities working together. From whatever journey I have covered, I can just give you course names and tell you to complete such courses and do such projects but this will feel like burdening you. You will be in a rat race of completing the courses and projects and eventually get exhausted. Concept: Creating A More Immersive Homepod Store Experience With Ar And Apple Music

Prior to the release of HomePod earlier this month, many potential readers and Apple customers were eager to hear just how good the $349 speaker would sound. On launch day, we stopped in at several of Apple’s retail locations to see HomePod in person, bringing you photos of the store displays. Demoing a speaker in a noisy environment is no easy task, and while HomePod’s performance is admirable, the difference between your home and a busy store is still markedly obvious. Augmenting HomePod’s in-store display experience could help compensate for the shortcomings of a less-than-ideal testing environment. Here’s how it could be done.

When the original Apple Watch went on sale in 2023, customers who planned to buy the 18-karat gold Edition variant were treated to a premium shopping experience. Private, 1-hour appointments were offered to those wishing to try on the watches. These hands-on experiences were held away from the noisy sales floor, in store boardrooms. While a similar environment would be ideal to fully experience the sound quality of HomePod, it’s simply not scalable given the mass market appeal of the speaker and increasing popularity of Apple retail stores.

HomePod’s current in-store experience isn’t optimal either. For being a brand new product in an emerging category, the display units have a perceived low priority on the sales floor. Tucked away on shelves next to other speakers and scattered among store tables with little accompanying information, the displays feel like an afterthought. How could Apple improve?

Since its introduction, Apple has sold HomePod first and foremost on its sound quality and comprehensive support for Apple Music. This deep integration is the perfect opportunity to cross-promote the two products. HomePod could be demoed in dedicated displays along “The Avenue” in each store. Apple uses similar displays to highlight HomeKit and the Apple TV today.

Inspired by the Apple Music “note” screen at Apple Park’s Visitor Center, each HomePod case could be backed with a flush monitor displaying Apple Music album art and helpful Siri commands that drift across the screen. In the center, a raised display could showcase album art for the track currently playing on the store’s HomePods. Check out the animation above for an example.

Below the monitors, two HomePods in a stereo pair could highlight both colors of the speaker, and demonstrate the power of having multiple devices in your home. A center-mounted iPad would display product information, similar to today.

While a more visually interesting display would help attract customers to the unassuming devices, Apple could take the experience a step further by employing augmented reality to visualize the audio fidelity that might be difficult to hear in a noisy store.

Apple has already used AR to great effect in the retail setting, creating a custom ARKit-powered Apple Park campus experience in their visitor center. The demo has been well received, and is considered a highlight of the visitor center by many. A more modest AR demo for HomePod would drive interest in the speaker while familiarizing a larger audience with augmented reality.

At WWDC 2023, Phil Schiller presented several HomePod graphics on stage that would translate well to AR demos. The first was a cutaway of HomePod’s components. Customers could look inside the speaker and see HomePod’s 7 tweeters and 6 microphone array. The simulated subwoofer could even thump to the beat.

Short animations during the keynote and on Apple’s website visualized the spatial awareness and directional sound possible with HomePod. With AR, customers could interact with sound as it fills the room. Switching between spatial awareness, full mix, center vocals, and the 6 microphone array would demonstrate the intelligence of the speaker’s audio processing. Virtual sound waves could be dynamically mapped based on the current track’s frequencies.

Coming in iOS 11.3 this spring, ARKit 1.5 introduces vertical surface mapping. This update enables Apple to accurately map both the shelves and walls in the store to highlight how HomePod can sense the shape of the room it’s in. Since Apple knows the precise dimensions and lighting conditions of every Apple store, these AR demos could be tuned with a precision not possible in an uncontrolled environment.

The HomePod is a great speaker, and it begs for an equal demo. If the product has wider long-term ambitions than becoming an accessory like a Google Home or Amazon Echo device, Apple should give it the attention it deserves with a prominent display of its own.

Apple Releases Watchos 7 With Family Setup, Sleep Tracking, And Much More

Alongside iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and macOS 11 Big Sur, Apple also showcased watchOS 7 at this year’s WWDC. And now the public release is finally here.

As expected, Apple on Wednesday officially released the next major update for the Apple Watch lineup. With watchOS 7, Apple is adding a variety of new features, making some important tweaks, and even making it possible to pair multiple Apple Watches to a single iPhone.

What’s new in watchOS 7 Family Setup

While Apple is working towards a relatively independent experience on Apple Watch, it still relies on the iPhone. Which means if you want to enjoy Apple’s smartwatch, you need an iPhone to connect it to. But that’s changing with watchOS 7, as Apple is expanding the availability of Apple Watch to those who might not have an iPhone.

Family members that use Family Setup will be able to use Messages, make phone calls, set up their Activity goals, and much more thanks to a dedicated phone number. Parents will be able to approve all contacts before their child is able to communicate with them.

Each Apple Watch wearer that sets up using Family Setup will get their own phone number, which is associated with a separate cellular plan. With their own Apple ID they will be able to follow family events in Calendar, look at synced photo albums, and much more. There’s even a new Apple Cash Family, making it quick and easy to send money to their child so they can pay with their Apple Watch.

Siri will work on the Apple Watch as expected. And the child or other user can also listen to Apple Music by connecting Bluetooth headphones or speakers to the Apple Watch. And with Apple Maps, each user can setup navigation to the place they are going, whether it’s to a friend’s house or the park, while the guardian can keep tabs in real time.

Apple tweaked the experience for the Activity feature specifically for kids. Now, instead of tracking calories burned, the Activity rings will track Move minutes. Users will be able to build customizable goals for each Apple Watch user, including Outdoor Walk, Outdoor Run, Outdoor Cycle, which have been tuned for kids. The experience has been tuned to feature more emoji, too. Users can share their Activity Challenges, and accept Activity Competitions as well.

The Emergency SOS feature is available with Family Setup, and guardians will be made aware automatically when it’s activated. This includes fall detection on supported Apple Watch models. Kids will be able to reference their Medical ID as well. And when permission is granted, users will be able to see their full shared data.

No matter where the student is learning, it’s important to stay focused. So, Schooltime will help with that. It’s a new feature meant to make it so kids can’t access the additional features baked into their Apple Watch while they are studying. When Schooltime is activated, a distinct yellow circle is displayed on the Apple Watch’s face. This is meant to show that Do Not Disturb is switched on, and access to other features is disabled. Parents will be able to set specific hours for Schooltime, which means the Apple Watch will automatically activate the feature when the time comes.

It can also be turned on in Control Center from the child’s Apple Watch.

Downtime also works on the Apple Watch as well, as part of the Screen Time feature. Kids will be notified Downtime is starting five minutes before it’s activated.

New watch faces and complications

As is par for the course with a new release of watchOS, Apple is offering up a variety of new watch faces as well. Apple is also expanding complications in a big way, offering the ability for apps to have more than one option. This means you can get much more relevant information from one app, all at a glance.

There is the Chronograph Pro watch face, which features a built in tachymeter. A new stripes watch face. You can now put your favorite Memoji as the background of your watch as well, which will animate when you look at your device.

watchOS 7 finally allows for the ability to share watch faces to other Apple Watch users. It’s all very simple and quick, too. Users can share a watch face either by posting a link online, emailing it, or a direct text message. The text message, which can be read on the Apple Watch, allows for the easiest download and installation of the new watch face.

What’s more, websites can build and share watch faces, too. So if you check a site for your personal hobby often, and they build a watch face like the one you can see just above for surfing, you can quickly add it to your Apple Watch. And of course, Apple will be curating and distributing new watch faces through the App Store for the Apple Watch.

Sleep tracking

There is a new sleep app for the Apple Watch thanks to watchOS 7, and it brings sleep tracking to the smartwatch. The app will capitalize on the ability to make a sleep schedule and a bedtime routine, helping you stick your routine to get a good night’s rest and be ready for the next day. In the new Sleep Mode, your Apple Watch will automatically switch on Do Not Disturb, and it will keep your screen from waking up.

As you wear at the watch to bed more often, you’ll get a sleep chart to analyze your sleep pattern over the last week. And the Apple Watch will use its accelerometer to track your sleep. When you wake up, you’ll see your battery level and the current weather conditions and a weather report.


Apple is adding new workouts that can be tracked with the Apple Watch. Those are: Functional Strength Training, Core Training, and Dance. And now the Apple Watch can even track your post-workout Cooldown. The Fitness app is getting revamped as well, now showing all your pertinent data including Awards, Workouts, Activity, and Activity Trends.

Apple Activity Competitions will help you keep in shape while throwing in some competitive fun with friends and family.


What Apple says is the result of “years of work”, the new Handwashing detection feature in watchOS 7 does exactly what the name suggests. The Apple Watch will use the built-in microphone and motion sensors to read when you are washing your hands. When it detects this, it will automatically start a 20-second countdown. If the Apple Watch detects you stopped early, it will politely remind you to go the full 20 seconds.

And now the Apple Watch can remind you to wash your hands when you get home.

The rest

Apple Watch’s update to watchOS 7 comes with a lot more under the hood for users to enjoy. That includes updates to Siri for on-device dictation support, and easier access to Shortcuts. Siri on the Apple Watch can now translate in 10 languages, with spoken translation for good measure.

There are also updates for hearing health, with tweaks to the Noise app with a “safe weekly listening notification”, allowing users to set a max audio volume, and even a summary of your weekly listening.

This Is The Safest Way To Sleep With Your Baby

In early April, Cook Children’s Medical Center in Texas sounded the alarm on a possible surge in infant deaths. Since January 2023, the hospital reported 30 mortalities stemming from unsafe sleeping situations. And while the cause of death may not have been the same for every baby, most involved sharing a bed with a caregiver.

“We’re doing a better job at identifying what the causes are,” says Susan Katz, a nurse practitioner and the infant apnea program coordinator at Stony Brook Medicine in New York, about the report. In regards to bed-sharing, she and other experts say that though there are many reasons why parents might end up sleeping with their newborn, it’s never recommended. “The scream of a mom or dad who’s lost their baby because of something like bed-sharing outweigh any benefits,” adds Gina Posner, a pediatrician at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in California.

About 3,500 babies in the US die each year from sleep-related incidents, including from suffocation and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Bed-sharing increases the chance for these fatal events. And while the number of sleep-related infant deaths has gone down since the 1990s, reports like the one from Cook Children’s Medical Center are a reminder that there’s still work to do in preventing these accidents. 

Why is sleeping in a bed with a baby dangerous?

First off, babies need to lie on firm surfaces, like a crib pad, says Posner. A soft adult mattress can be harmful because it conforms to the shape of the baby’s head, creating pockets of space that can cover their nose and mouth if they turn over in their sleep. A 2023 study published in the journal Pediatrics reported 14 percent of SIDS cases were from suffocation. Of these, 69 percent of the suffocations were from regular mattresses.

Bed sharing also exposes infants to other soft materials like pillows and blankets that can easily smother children, explains Posner. What’s more, pillows that are slightly elevated can force a baby’s head down so their chin rests on their chest. This position can block the baby’s tiny airways and make it hard for them to breathe. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that any surface inclining over 10 degrees is not safe for a baby.

Another danger is the adult itself. A lot of accidental deaths happen when a caregiver rolls over on a baby, pins the baby down under blankets, or traps the baby between a wall and a bed. “I’ve seen even the best of parents who are just exhausted accidentally suffocate their child,” says Posner.

Is there any way to make bed-sharing safer?

There are multiple reasons why people might want to sleep in the same bed as their child. For example, some caregivers find that infants sleep better when next to them. “Sometimes [the babies] really do,” explains Posner. “They were inside you for nine months and it can be a hard transition to be outside.” Other parents might do it for the convenience of breastfeeding and immediately getting to go back to sleep. For sleep-deprived adults, a few extra minutes of sleep matter.

But both Katz and Posner say there’s no way to keep your infant completely safe when bed-sharing and caution against it, at least until the child turns one. The American Academy of Pediatrics also doesn’t recommend bed-sharing with infants “under any circumstance,” and recommends other alternatives.

How to practice safe sleep

One downside to room-sharing is that babies—and by extension, caregivers—don’t sleep well. A 2023 study in the journal Pediatrics found that infants who slept in separate rooms from their parents before the age of four months rested longer than those who shared a room (and got fed more throughout the night). The solo-napping babies also slept up to 100 minutes longer at the age of nine months.

The idea of losing a few winks might make room-sharing an unappealing option. However, waking up from your baby’s cries could be a way of making sure they’re protected against SIDS. A 2014 study in the journal Acta Neuropathologica found that nearly 42 percent of infants who died from SIDS—which includes causes beyond bedsharing—had brain abnormalities that affected the hippocampus, an area in charge of controlling breathing and heart rate during sleep. Spending the night in the same room but in different sleeping areas gives adults the opportunity to check on babies and ensure there are no hazards nearby that would compromise their breathing.
