Suggested April 2024 Audio Converter Software Fre:ac Isn’t A Look But Better Than Most
We all love to listen to music, especially if it’s in our audio platform of choice. It’s how we get down; that’s why it’s always great to have an audio converter on-hand. There are several audio converters out there, from the good to the terrible. Today, we’re going to talk about an audio converter software known as fre:ac, once known as BonkEnc.fre:ac audio converter
fre:ac is a program just over 7MB, and from what we have seen of it so far, it works for the most part. When it comes down to format support, we know users can convert content to MP3, MP4/M4A, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, WAV and Bonk formats.
As for the price, well, fre:ac is a free option that is also open source, so you’ll never have to purchase it.
How to use fre:ac
During installation, fre:ac gave us several options. We could select the features we wanted, along with the default language of the software overall. For those who enjoy using the command interface, then it should be noted that fre:ac can be utilized outside of the regular graphical user interface.
The graphical user interface doesn’t look that great, so for anyone who wants to use the command line, we have no issues with that.
Now, there are several icons at the top of the menu. However, they do not contain any names. The user will have to hover the mouse cursor over the icons to learn what they are capable of doing. This could be an issue for novices, henceforth, we’d rather changes be made to allow the title of each icon to be visible at all times, and with the option to have them removed.
For us, the entire experience was relatively easy, and encoding didn’t take long. But hey, we have a computer with a quad-core processor, so speed is not an issue here.
Bear in mind that fre:ac uses the likes of Compact Disc Database or CDDB method to add meta-data to music content. Folks will need an Internet connection for this to happen, but worry not, it doesn’t take long to get all the data up and running.
What about audio filters
Yes, fre:ac does support the addition of various audio filters before converting. We did not use this feature, so we’re unable to say for sure how well it works, if at all.
Whenever audio has been converted, the user can play the encoded material directly from the software rather than having to open Groove or Windows Media Player. Yes, fre:ac is also a media player. What is the best free audio converter?
There are tons of free audio converter apps available for Windows 11 and Windows 10. However, you need to use some of them to check which one suits your computer the most. For example, some of the apps may not have the required file format or extension you might need. As that is the primary function of an audio converter, it is recommended to try some tools before opting for something specific. Is FRE:AC good?
Yes, fre:ac is a pretty good and handy tool if you need a free audio converter for your PC. Whether you need to convert audio from MP3 to WMA, AAC, or anything else, or vice versa, you can certainly do that with the help of fre:ac. The user interface is minimal so that you do not get problems being used to it.
Overall, fre:ac is a robust program, we only wished the user interface wasn’t all gray and dull. For those who are interested, fre:ac can be downloaded from the official website.

Disaster risk and climate change are closely linked, and you can’t discuss one without including the other. Increasing global average temperature and widespread changes in weather patterns make extreme weather events more frequent or intense. In the United States, heat waves occurred three times more often in 2023 than in the 1960s.
Natural disasters such as droughts, storms, floods, and wildfires are more likely to happen. Globally, climate-related disasters averaged about 40 times a year in the 1970s, but this number increased to over 150 in the 2010s. This year, there have been unprecedented extreme weather events, like the flooding in South Central Montana or the four-season drought in Eastern Africa.
These only emphasize climate change’s effects and the importance of disaster preparedness. However, natural disasters don’t affect everyone the same way.Certain demographics are less likely to be prepared for disasters
Even though natural disasters have a devastating impact on everything that crosses their path, these events don’t affect everyone equally. Low-income people and racial/ethnic minority groups are most at risk for disaster exposure. According to a 2023 Health Affairs article, they are more likely to live in disaster-prone areas and reside in lower-quality housing.
Natural disasters also disproportionately impact older adults and people with disabilities. Mobility is often the key to maintaining safety, says Natalie Simpson, associate professor and chair of operations management and strategy at the University at Buffalo School of Management, which is an additional challenge for these demographics.
For vulnerable groups, preparedness will come a long way in buffering the impact of disasters. However, not all people are capable of sufficient disaster preparedness.
A new study published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction found that specific American households are less likely to be at least minimally prepared for disasters. These groups, including families with children, renters, homes led by women, and those of low socioeconomic status, are less likely to have the essential resources for immediate evacuation or sheltering for three days. Moreover, Asians and African Americans are less likely to have minimal disaster preparedness.
The authors investigated the factors associated with disaster preparedness by analyzing the data from the 2023 National Household Survey (NHS) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The NHS began in 2007 and has been conducted annually since 2013 to understand how personal disaster preparedness in the US changes over time by investigating Americans’ attitudes and behaviors about it.
[Related: The world is on course to experience 560 major disasters each year.]
Lack of information about disaster preparedness is a critical factor that affects one’s capability (or lack thereof) to arrange for these circumstances, says Smitha Rao, study author and assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Social Work. It’s important to get crucial details about disaster preparedness across and target communities that are more affected by disasters or are less prepared, she added.
The study also discussed how socio-cognitive factors affected disaster preparedness: Believing in the usefulness of disaster preparedness was associated with being at least adequately prepared. People with less confidence in their ability to be ready were less likely to be minimally prepared for an emergency.
“The dominant factor in anyone’s ability to minimally prepare for disaster is income level,” says Simpson. Low-income households struggle with keeping food on the table, while higher-income families are more likely to have insurance, evacuation plans, and personal vehicles. Recommended purchases for preparedness such as radios, generators, flashlights, and batteries also require surplus income, she adds.
One of the most important things an individual can do is talk about disaster preparedness with their family members and neighbors, like thinking of a plan and preparing a go-bag with essential items and documents, says Rao.
“We prepare for disaster to lessen its impact on our lives,” says Simpson. “We will never control disasters, but we do have some control over how much damage the next disaster leaves behind.”The government plays a major role in disaster preparedness
According to Rao, some communities are less prepared not due to individual shortcomings but because they usually have other pressing needs that demand attention or lack the resources to take necessary action. She adds that governments and institutions can improve their disaster preparedness by providing information and comprehensive support and working closely with the most vulnerable groups.
Policymakers should seek the best channels for disaster preparedness education, like teaching it at school or non-traditional partners like churches, says Simpson. People with internet access can visit chúng tôi a website created by the US Department of Homeland Security, to make a plan and know what to prepare in case different kinds of disasters or emergencies occur.
“Governments need to recognize that lower income groups often live in particularly risky areas for disaster, with minimal or degraded infrastructure and even lax code enforcement,” she adds. “This is an inequity that can be corrected through greater investment, which basically shifts this important part of preparedness back to [the] government.”
[Related: Our infrastructure can’t handle climate disasters. We need to build differently.]
Lawmakers can help low-income communities by investing in the necessary renovations and repairs on public housing, as well as replacing degraded and substandard infrastructure that makes living environments unsafe.
Living in urban areas also requires dependence on critical infrastructures, including transport, energy, telecommunications, and healthcare, that can fail catastrophically in a disaster. When these fail, they can send large numbers of people into a state of deprivation all at once, says Simpson. The New York City subway system—which has a daily ridership of about 5.5 million people—has faced flooding in the past due to hurricanes or heavy rains.
Japan, a country geographically prone to disasters such as typhoons, tsunamis, and earthquakes, has one of the safest and most disaster-resilient built environments in the world. Architects and engineers use effective disaster-proofing practices, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence when designing and constructing buildings to make them more resilient and minimize potential damage. The government also invests a lot of money into disaster preparedness by upgrading infrastructures, improving technologies, and adopting disaster reduction projects.
“While not all disasters are related to climate change, the climate crisis is definitely amplifying the impact and occurrence of many disasters,” says Rao. “Real climate action that holds climate justice principles central is the most urgent requirement from institutions and the government.”
While both Google Bard and ChatGPT are complementary tools that both have their place, ChatGPT is a little further down the road in its evolution, and there are several ways it holds an edge over its Google rival.

ChatGPT’s ability to generate code from natural language prompts is truly remarkable. It can create complex scripts with just a few simple instructions. For example, if you tell ChatGPT to “create a website for my business that includes a contact form,” it will generate the necessary code for a website, complete with a functional contact form.
Not only is ChatGPT able to generate code for websites, but it can also create code for games. For instance, if you ask it to “create a simple game that involves jumping over obstacles,” it can generate code for a game that meets your requirements. You could then take that code and modify it to create your own unique game.

Another impressive use case for ChatGPT’s coding skills is its ability to create rival apps to popular ones. For example, if you ask it to “create an app like Uber, but for bicycles instead of cars,” it can generate code for an app that allows users to rent bicycles instead of cars.
While ChatGPT’s coding abilities are not perfect, it is certainly ahead of Google Bard in this regard. Google admits that Bard is still learning to code and is not officially supported for coding responses. With the arrival of ChatGPT’s more powerful GPT-4 model as part of ChatGPT Plus, it’s likely that its coding abilities will only improve further.
Are you feeling stuck with writer’s block or in need of a muse to spark your creativity? Look no further than ChatGPT. This AI sidekick is a powerful tool for generating text and coming up with new ideas, making it a perfect companion for writers, poets, and even screenwriters. Compared to the more limited Google Bard, ChatGPT can handle more input limits and continue a conversation for much longer without forgetting the context. So whether you need help brainstorming, generating fresh ideas, or refining your existing work, ChatGPT is the creative partner you’ve been looking for.
ChatGPT’s abilities as a teacher are truly impressive. It has the remarkable capability to explain complex topics in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner, making it a valuable resource for anyone seeking to learn something new. Unlike Google Bard, ChatGPT’s responses are more descriptive and often include helpful analogies to simplify difficult concepts. Whether you’re a student struggling to understand a difficult subject, or simply curious about a particular topic, ChatGPT can provide the answers you need in a way that is both informative and enjoyable.
ChatGPT’s expansive knowledge base makes it a reliable resource for information on various topics. Unlike Google Bard, ChatGPT is designed to handle a broader range of questions and discussions, including niche topics that may not be covered by more general search engines. Whether you’re seeking answers on a particular scientific theory or the history of a specific region, ChatGPT is capable of providing insightful and informative responses. Its ability to understand context and provide accurate information makes it a valuable tool for anyone seeking knowledge on diverse subjects.
ChatGPT’s ability to provide human-like responses is one of its standout features, making it a more relatable and engaging conversational partner compared to Google Bard. ChatGPT’s responses are often infused with humor, empathy, and personality, which can make interactions feel more like talking to a friend than a machine. Additionally, ChatGPT’s superior memory means that it can recall previous conversations and continue them seamlessly, adding to the feeling of conversing with a human-like companion.
Windows 11/10 already provides a built-in Voice Recorder app which is nice. But, that app may cause issues to some – like Failed to save the recording audio. Therefore, if you are looking for some other options that can help you record and save audio on Windows PC, then this post discusses some free audio recorder software for Windows 11/10.

Let’s check these Windows 10 audio recording tools one by one.1] Audio Recorder
Audio Recorder is a very simple Microsoft Store app. It lets you create a project and then you start and save your audio recordings in that project. For each saved audio recording, it adds the date and recording time as a file name of the recording. You can select a custom folder to save the recordings. The output audio is saved as an MP3 file.
Open its homepage and install the app. When you will launch this Audio Recorder app, it will prompt you to access your microphone. Give permission using the Yes button.
Now you will see its main interface that has two options:
Start recording to record and save the recorded audio
Play recorded files to access the folder where your audio files are saved and play all those audios on its interface.
Use the first option and then you can start the recording using the Mic icon. When recording is done, stop it, and it will be saved to the default project. You can also rename your project anytime. This way you can add more and more recordings.2] Quick Sound Recorder Free
Quick Sound Recorder Free is also a Microsoft Store app. The free plan lets you save one audio recording per session but you can record and save multiple audio recordings one by one. The output recordings are stored under the Music folder on your PC in MP3 format.
You can also access your recordings on its interface and play them. For selected audio, the options to stop, pause, skip ahead, and skip back are also present.3] Ashampoo Audio Recorder Free
Ashampoo Audio Recorder Free is a feature-rich tool. It comes with a compact view and full view mode, lets you select an input device for recording, set output folder, and file names for the saved recordings. One unique feature is you can cut recorded audio (by setting start point and end-point) and save that particular part as separate audio.
You can also select output format as OGG, FLAC, OPUS, APE, WAV, WMA, or MP3. For each format, it lets you set audio quality (good, high-quality, CD, or Medium) along with custom bitrate and sample rate which is a pretty good feature.
After installing and opening this tool, you need to do account registration by providing your email address and password so that you can use its free copy without restrictions.
Now the very first thing you should do is access its Settings and set output folder, format, audio quality, etc. Now come back to the main interface, select your recording device, and start the recording. Stop and save recording using the available button.
The list of saved recordings is visible in the left section. You can select and play any recorded audio. If you want, you can also use the Cut icon (available on the bottom right part) to extract a particular part from your audio recording.4] Weeny Free Audio Recorder
Weeny Free Audio Recorder is also a feature-rich software. It lets you play the recorded audio within its interface. You can also set output device, volume for recording, output path, and use hotkeys to record, pause, and stop the recording.
It lets you save audio recordings in WAVE, WMA, OGG, and MP3 formats. For the selected format, you can also set bitrate, and channel (Mono, Stereo, or JointStereo).
To begin the recording, use the Record icon. Whenever you want to end the recording, press the Stop button. If you want to play a recording on its interface, use the File List icon, select a recording, and play it.5] Moo0 Audio Recorder
Moo0 Audio Recorder (free for non-commercial use) lets you select any of the three options to record audio or sound: any PC sound and Microphone, any PC sound, and only Microphone. A unique Cut Silence feature is also there that automatically pauses the recording when there is no audio and resumes the recording when some sound is played. That helps a lot to exclude unwanted time duration in the recording. You can save the audio recording in MP3 or WAV format.
Apart from that, it lets you set audio quality, output folder, interface transparency, and output file name. By default, this tool comes with a transparent interface and remains on top of other applications, but you can also manage transparency and uncheck the keep on top option.
Use options (such as output folder, audio source, filename) visible on its interface and press the Start Recording! button. You can pause the recording in between and continue the recording anytime. Finally, press the Stop button, and the recording will be saved. You can also listen to the recording directly on its interface.
Hope you will like these free audio recorders for Windows 11/10.
Google recently announced its Pixel smartphones, the Pixel & Pixel XL and these are not your usual Nexus smartphones, these are phones “made by Google”. The new devices feature top of the line hardware but that’s part of every Android flagship, right? Well, thankfully, Google differentiates the Pixel line-up with some very cool unique features. However, the Pixel starts at $649, which is quite pricey and you must have wondered if the price is justified, considering there are a number of high-end Android smartphones you can buy. Well, let’s put our dilemmas to an end and check out the unique features in Google Pixel and what exactly makes it better than other Android smartphones. So, let’s begin!1. Google Assistant
While we saw a preview of Google Assistant in the instant messaging app Allo, the Google Assistant in Pixel is what we have always imagined Google’s virtual assistant to be, and more. Google Assistant brings you all the goodness of Google Now in a much more user friendly and conversational manner. The voice assistant can bring you daily briefings, weather info, flight status, play music, make reservations, send messages, answer your queries, set reminders & alarms, enable or disable system options and a lot more. Plus, it has got a personality, similar to what you get in Siri or Cortana and you can even play games with it.
With third party apps supporting the Assistant, it’s bound to get better. While Google Assistant should make its way to more Android devices, if you just cannot wait, you can get it on your Nougat running rooted device. If you are using it already, you should definitely check out our list of cool Google Assistant tricks.2. Pixel Launcher
It also includes a cool new wallpaper picker but it’s not really exclusive, as you can get it from Play Store. Chances are, Pixel Launcher will remain exclusive to the Pixel devices but if you really want it on your device, you can install the APK file of the launcher. However, do keep in mind that it might not play well with your device.3. Google Camera
The cameras on the Pixel smartphones are pretty amazing and Google has updated the Google Camera app to make sure you get the best experience on the Pixel. The updated camera app brings a new UI, with the timer, HDR, grid and flash options available right from the viewfinder. Also, there’s a hamburger menu, which lets you jump to various modes like slow motion, panorama, lens blur etc.
With the new camera app, you can press hold on the viewfinder to trigger AE/AF lock and there’s also a manual exposure slider in tow, which should come in really handy. Along with that, there are new cool transitions when you switch between the front and rear camera and when an HDR photo is processing. Last but not the least, the new camera app also lets you set the volume keys to act as shutter or for zooming.4. Google Support
Google is trying to match Apple’s iPhone support with its own in the Pixel smartphones. The Pixel comes with a new “Support” tab in the Settings page, which lets you chat or call a Google representative for help. While the chat option works like a usual messaging chat, a representative can send you a screen share request in the phone option to understand your query better. The Support page also lets you search help topics, check out tips & tricks and send feedback to Google. Overall, this is a pretty nice addition by Google and we hope this feature comes to more Android smartphones.5. Unlimited Backup at original quality
Google lets you backup unlimited photos at original quality on the Pixel smartphones and it’s a big deal. If you are using Google Photos on your Android device, Google lets you backup unlimited photos but only in High Quality (1080p videos and 16 MP photos) and if you want to backup full resolution photos, it’ll take up your Google Drive storage. While the backed up High Quality photos look almost the same as the photos you took, they surely go under some compression. However, if you own a Pixel, there’s nothing to worry about, as the photos and videos will be backed up in their original size and quality in Google Photos. Also, with Pixel not packing expandable storage, this is certainly appreciable.6. Smart Storage
To tackle the non expandable storage in the Pixel, Google has introduced another cool new feature dubbed “Smart Storage”. The feature automatically removes photos and videos that are backed up in Google Photos and are 30, 60 or 90 days old. This feature automatically works when your storage is almost full.7. Android 7.1
As expected, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphones to come with Android 7.1, so it’s another added incentive to get the smartphone. Android 7.1 brings some cool changes like rounded icons, new power menu, GIF support in Google Keyboard, new calling UI and more.
It also includes the cool new app shortcuts, which is very similar to shortcuts offered on iOS app icons with 3D Touch. On Android 7.1, you can just press hold on an icon to get various shortcuts and you can even create homescreen icons for these shortcuts to quickly access them. For instance, Chrome offers shortcuts to open up a new tab or a new incognito tab. Only the first party Google apps currently support shortcuts but we can expect third party apps to follow suit. Android 7.1 on Pixel also comes with some cool new “Moves” like the ability to open the notification drawer by swiping on the fingerprint scanner.

OpenAI yesterday released the latest version of ChatGPT, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) language tool that is causing such a stir in the tech industry. The most recent model, GPT-4, can understand images as input, which means it can look at a photo and provide the user with general information about the image.
The language model also has a larger database of information, allowing it to provide more accurate information and write code in all major programming languages.
“While less capable than humans in many real-world scenarios, [GPT-4] exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks,” OpenAI wrote in its press release.
“It is still flawed, still limited, and it still seems more impressive on first use than it does after you spend more time with it,”
GPT-4 can now read, scrutinize, and generate up to 25,000 words of text and appears to be far smarter than its predecessor.
In fact, Tribescaler’s Alex Banks believes that “it is 82% less likely to respond to requests for disallowed content. It is 40% more likely to produce factual responses than GPT-3.5.”
ChatGPT, which was only released in November of last year, is already regarded as the fastest-growing consumer application in history.
In just a few months, the app had 100 million monthly active users. According to a UBS study, TikTok took nine months and Instagram nearly three years to reach that number of users.
GPT-4 does very well in most examinations related to graduate-level law, technology, mathematics, etc. However, it fares poorly in both AP-level humanities and science examinations.
Although it was initially described as GPT-3.5 (and thus a few iterations beyond GPT-3), ChatGPT is not a version of OpenAI’s large language model in and of itself. Instead, it’s rather a chat-based interface for whatever model powers it. The ChatGPT system, which has grown in popularity in recent months, was designed to interact with GPT-3.5, and it is now designed to interact with GPT-4.Is GPT-4 more developed over GPT-3.5? If yes, how?
Let us look at how GPT-4 is different from GPT-3.5 and if and how it has improved upon its previous versions –Multimodality comes into play
GPT-4 is “multimodal” in comparison to GPT-3.5, which means it can understand more than one “modality” of information. While GPT-3 was limited to only text, GPT-4 can process images to find relevant information. Of course, you could simply ask it to describe what’s in a picture but its comprehension skills extend beyond that.
Pietro Schirano, Design Lead at Brex, demonstrated that he could recreate the game of Pong within only 60 seconds.
I don’t care that it’s not AGI, GPT-4 is an incredible and transformative technology.
— Pietro Schirano (@skirano) March 14, 2023
Another user Roman Cheung shared on Twitter how GPT-4 turned a hand-drawn sketch into a functional website.
I just watched GPT-4 turn a hand-drawn sketch into a functional website.
— Rowan Cheung (@rowancheung) March 14, 2023Difficult to lead GPT astray now
There have been several reports of some people leading an AI chatbot astray. Roman Semenov, Co-founder of Tornado Cash, even tricked ChatGPT into mocking OpenAI’s content policies in obscene language using an ingenious jailbreak.
— Roman Semenov 🇺🇦 🌪️ (@semenov_roman_) February 3, 2023
When asked if Adolf Hitler was a bad person, GPT-4 describes him as “one of the evilest and notorious figures in human history” who oversaw the Holocaust and the genocide of six million Jews, as well as millions of other individuals, including homosexuals, disabled individuals, and Romani people.
When asked if Winston Churchill was a bad person, GPT-4 acknowledges that he held prejudiced views towards certain groups, including Native Americans and Africans. It also mentions that he held colonialist views and oversaw policies that were harmful to India and other colonies. But it quickly tells us to recognize his contributions to the war effort even if he had flaws.
GPT-4 claims to be significantly better than previous versions in that it is more difficult to fool. The new model claims to outperform its predecessors in terms of “factuality, steerability, and refusing to go outside of guardrails.”
According to OpenAI, GPT-3.5 was a “test run” of a new training architecture and the lessons from that version were applied to the new one, which was “unprecedentedly stable.” They were also better able to predict its capabilities, resulting in fewer upsets.
We asked GPT-4 a few more politically loaded questions. When we queried if violence in political conflicts should be celebrated, it did not offer personal opinions but general information. It refrained from taking a political stand but stressed that we should consider the historical and cultural context of a situation before forming opinions.
We asked it questions about Indian revolutionaries active during the British colonial rule and Israel’s military actions in Palestine.
Concerns have been raised about misinformation and potentially biased information generated over ChatGPT. AI language models are trained on large datasets, which may contain biases based on race, gender, religion, and other factors. As a result, the AI language model may produce biased results and Chat GPT’s latest version has proven to be no exception so far.
However, a good number of times, it gives autonomy to the user to make a choice, particularly when personal choices are being made. A user shared on Twitter an interesting ChatGPT conversation over the choice of drinks when the tool repeatedly refrained from making choices for a user.
Consider this – Coinbase Director Conor Grogan highlighted that he dumped a live Ethereum contract into GPT-4 and the chatbot highlighted several security vulnerabilities. It also specified a way to make the exploit. The contract was indeed exploited in 2023 using the vulnerabilities, as pointed out by GPT-4.
I dumped a live Ethereum contract into GPT-4.
— Conor (@jconorgrogan) March 14, 2023
In many technical cases as above, GPT-4 is surprisingly accurate and sharp. On another occasion, GPT-4 however, provided us with factually incorrect information regarding a relatively simple historical fact. When we asked if there is a geomagnetic field around Kasar Devi, it mentioned in its response that American physicist Robert Oppenheimer spent several months in the area in the 1930s studying the phenomenon. However, Oppenheimer had never visited Kasar Devi.
When we again questioned if Oppenheimer ever visited India, the chatbot listed Oppenheimer’s visits to Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, and Varanasi. None of this is, however, true.
When reminded of its mistake, the tool was quick to apologize.Longer Memory
With GPT-3.5 and the previous version of ChatGPT, the limit was 4,096 “tokens,” which is roughly 8,000 words or 4-5 pages of a book. GPT-4, on the other hand, has a maximum token count of 32,768, which is equivalent to approximately 64,000 words or 50 pages of text.
It will remember what you discussed 20 pages ago in chat, or it may refer to events that occurred 35 pages ago in writing a story or essay. That’s a very rough description of how the attention mechanism and token count work, but the general concept is of expanded memory and the abilities that come with it.
Noted linguistics AI experts Noam Chomsky, Ian Roberts, and Jeffrey Watumull called it the “false promise of ChatGPT” in a New York Times essay that was published last week.
The writers argue that if we look at these AI tools, it seems that mechanical minds are surpassing human brains not only quantitatively in terms of processing speed and memory size, but also qualitatively in terms of intellectual insight and artistic creativity.
However, the mind being trained in these tools is significantly different from how a human mind reasons and uses language. The human mind is not like ChatGPT. Instead of gorging on hundreds of terabytes of data, then finding recognizable patterns, and providing the most probable answer to a scientific question, the human mind produces results using small amounts of information.
This distinction is critical as we often make comparisons between the human mind and the AI mind.
Even if the AI industry is dominated by English speakers, GPT-4 shows that it can answer thousands of multiple-choice questions with high accuracy across 26 languages, from Spanish to Mandarin to Hindi. Though it is still best in Romance and Germanic languages, it can generate decent sentences in other languages.
This preliminary testing of language capabilities is promising, but it is far from a full embrace of multilingual capabilities. The testing criteria were originally translated from English and multiple-choice questions do not accurately represent ordinary speech.
At first, we asked GPT-4 to write an alliteration-driven poem on India. Though the assessment of the quality of literature is subjective, it successfully retains alliteration in its creation.
It even wrote a Hindi rap song on the city of Lucknow based in North India. However, it also had some incoherent parts such as the phrase beloved (daur-o-jaan) and kal ke jahaz (tomorrow’s ships).
Accommodating different perspectives through Steerability
GPT-4 incorporates steerability more natively than GPT-3.5. Users will be able to customize the classic ChatGPT personality with a fixed verbosity, tone, and style to better suit their needs. “Within bounds,” the team emphasizes, pointing out that this is the simplest way to get the model to work.
Steerability is an intriguing concept in artificial intelligence, alluding to their ability to change behavior on demand. This can be beneficial, such as when acting as a sympathetic listener, or dangerous, such as when people convince the model that it is evil or depressed.
This can be accomplished by priming the chatbot with messages such as “Pretend you’re a DM in a tabletop RPG” or “Answer as if you’re being interviewed for cable news.” However, you were just making suggestions to the “default” GPT-3.5 personality. Skilled people have used their cunning to trick “jailbreak” the previous version so far. It means that they successfully manipulated ChatGPT into acting dangerously such as revealing techniques of bomb-making.
In one particular case, a user tricked over a few days a previous version of ChatGPT into believing that 2+2=5. At first, the chatbot generated the correct answer. However, its response changed over time as the user prodded it into believing that it was wrong all along.

Ted Chiang, the American science fiction writer whose story was the basis for the 2024 Hollywood sci-fi film “Arrival,” wrote a column for the New Yorker last month. Chiang compared large language models such as ChatGPT to Xerox photocopiers. He argued that such models compress large amounts of information through a coding mechanism that is very cluttered.
Therefore, when it puts out specific information using multiple, seemingly unrelated sources, it often ends up generating merely an approximation of the information. The way jpeg retains approximate information of a higher-resolution image, tools like GPT also retain only approximate information of details.
So far, it seems that Chiang’s conclusion cannot entirely be dismissed.AI-focused tokens on a rally
Several AI-focused blockchain projects have seen their tokens skyrocket in value after the news. These tokens have existed for years in the market, but the success of ChatGPT has given them a second life.
