Suggested January 2024 Can Social Live Video Help Seo? Yes, Here’s How

Live social video is all the rage, but it isn’t just something the social media marketers and brand managers should care about.

Social livestreaming can boost your SEO, too – if you do it right.

Freshness, dwell time, chatter. These are all important factors that can help your SEO, and they’re all natural qualities of social live video.

Keep reading to understand how you can use social live video to amplify your organic reach.

Social Live Video: Stand Out in a Crowded Newsfeed

Social marketers freak out about Facebook algorithm changes the way SEO pros do about Google’s updates.

Social networks are on a constant mission to do everything within their power to strongarm brands into playing exclusively on their networks.

Some platforms, like Instagram, notoriously don’t even allow links in posts.

Others, like Facebook or LinkedIn, do a bait and switch: sure, you can add links to your posts, but only at the cost of it then getting heavily deprioritized by the algorithm in the main feed.

As marketers, we get it – it’s good for their ad dollars and their stockholders to keep users in-network, but it sucks for our brands. What’s an SEO pro to do?

This is where social live video comes in.

By 2023, experts predict video will represent 82 percent of internet traffic.

Consumers want more content from the brands they follow, but 80 percent would prefer it take the form of live video over a blog.

It’s no surprise, then, that Facebook claims live videos generate 600 percent more interactions.

Here’s the best part: some platforms, like Facebook, make it a point to boost “live” content in their feed.

With Facebook consistently making it near impossible for brands to show up in the news feed, social live video is one way that still works.

Brands must create social livestreams that delight their followers.

The key is to make it good for your SEO, too.

Focus on the Right Social Media Platforms

While everyone’s hopping aboard the social livestream train, certain platforms are friendlier for brands.

For your live video to succeed from both a social and an organic perspective, you need to choose the right social network.

For social media, this means the networks where you’ve got an engaged following and the know-how to create and strategically post high-quality livestream video.

For SEO, this means the qualified networks from that first statement that let you add links to the post and make it easy to annotate your videos.

I’ll save some of your work for you – the clear winners here are YouTube Live and Facebook Live.

Instagram Live disappears 24 hours later while Meerkat doesn’t offer a replay option, and Twitch isn’t really applicable unless you’re in the gaming industry.

But with Facebook Live, you can create a permanent post, download your video for embedding on your own website, add a description to your post, and review analytics during and after your stream.

YouTube Live offers the same features – and it’s owned by Google. Enough said.

Amplify Your Other Marketing Channels

Live streams in and of themselves are not a go-to SEO option.

The SEO comes when you use social live video to improve results from your other channels, from events to content marketing.

As they say, a rising tide lifts all ships.

The more social video you create, the more you have to embed on your related blog posts or landing pages.

Once the stream is over, you can update your video description with links to said blog posts or landing pages to drive traffic.

YouTube videos are often pulled for featured snippet results, which is one way social live video can directly impact your SEO.

But you can hack your other popular content tactics into compelling live streams for an added, albeit indirect, SEO boost.

Product Tutorials

How-to videos are among the most popular type of YouTube video. Instead of a traditional tutorial, make yours exciting by filming live.

Benefit Cosmetics has done this to great success with their weekly Tipsy Tricks series. Their products are so simple to use, you can apply them over drinks with friends.

Event Marketing

Social live video gets more people talking about, hyped up for, and attending your event. In fact, this is one of the most common types of livestreams you’ll see.

Before social live video, only people at an event got to enjoy it, while others would read about it afterwards. With social live video, you can infinitely scale your audience and invite all your Facebook fans to enjoy it, too.

Promote, Promote, Promote

As with any campaign, promotion is essential to a successful live video.

Hype your livestream beforehand to drive eyeballs and increase your visibility on the platform when you do go live.

Create a Facebook event people can RSVP to.

Regularly tweet, post, or snap on your other networks to remind people it’s coming up.

Feature it in related blog posts or your email newsletter.

Ask your influencers to do the same, especially if they’re going to be featured in your video.

One of the best ways to promote your live stream is simply to do it often. The more consistent you are about going live, the more your fans will look out for it, driving views.

Remember that precious “freshness” factor? It doesn’t just apply to content on your own site. Google pays attention to how much people are talking about you online.

If there’s a surge in people talking about you on Facebook from your latest live video, you can bet Google’s going to notice.

Go Live

During the live stream itself, follow social live video best practices

You can permanently post videos on YouTube and Facebook for long-term visibility, but you’ll get the most eyes for your video while it’s live, so you want to make the most of it.

Pre-schedule posts on Twitter and your other networks to drive eyeballs to the live stream platform while it’s happening. Use the same hashtag in all your posts.

Really drive the point home by keeping the related URL visible throughout the video. Write the link in big letters on a whiteboard behind you. Print out a big poster. Design special shirts for the occasion. You get the idea. You want to keep the link visible on the screen throughout the video so people still know where to go if they’re playing it on mute.

Keep the Ball Rolling Once You Publish

Once you finish live streaming, publish the video to your page and follow all the steps in your typical SEO checklist for regular video. This includes:

Making sure your post is set “Public.”

Adding a keyword-optimized title and relevant tags.

Beefing up your post description with relevant web links above-the-fold, and a detailed summary of takeaways below the fold.

Exporting the video to repost it on your other video hosting sites and social media networks.

Uploading the video to relevant blog posts or landing pages on your site to increase dwell time. This gives people a website URL to link to instead of your Facebook profile.

Including a transcription file for the video on YouTube and your blog page.

Providing an embed code for the video that links back to your website.

Conclusion

There’s an inherent urgency built into live stream video that makes it irresistible to watch. Just imagine if you can put that momentum to work for your SEO.

Here’s What You Can Do If Your Social Media Post Gets Taken Down

Some social media-content is easy to evaluate. Cute cat pictures? Great. Helpful how-to videos? Perfect. Unfortunately, parsing posts gets a lot more complicated when the content flowing through the tubes of social media involves news. Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Committee brought in representatives from Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook to discuss the companies’ policies and practices for evaluating and moderating content (mostly political in nature) and the internet scourge that is fake news.

During the hearing, Facebook’s rep, Monika Bickert, mentioned that the company revamped its process for users to appeal when their posts are removed from the site. The company is halfway into what it considers a three-year plan to address the spread of false information and figure out its tactics for identifying things like hate speech and propaganda. No one likes having their content moderated or removed, so we followed up with each company to find out what recourse users have in the case of a deletion.

Facebook

Earlier this year, Facebook publicly published its community guidelines, which it uses internally to decide when and how to moderate content. To go along with this disclosure, the company also revamped its method for allowing users to appeal when their posts get removed from the service.

As part of the GDPR, consumers have the right to an explanation about how and why an algorithm made a decision. While the appeal process—with a real human!—is a positive step in terms of content regulation, you shouldn’t expect a full-on hearing or a chance to argue your case in some grand Law & Order fashion. Rather a person will look at your request and let you know whether or not your content fits the community guidelines.

Here’s how to appeal a YouTube take down

You’ll have to dig into your account to appeal YouTube’s initial decision.

YouTube

You can check out YouTube’s community guidelines on this page to see what kind of content will or won’t get your video removed from the service. Predictably, YouTube also has a video version that explains the top-level concepts of what will get your reel taken down.

When YouTube believes you’ve violated the guidelines, you’ll receive a strike on your account that will appear in messages with an explanation of why it took that action. If you want to appeal the removal, you’ll have to actively request it by digging into the menus.

Like with Facebook, once you file an appeal, a human member of the community team will review the video to see if the violation will stand.

Once the YouTube team member makes their decision, there are four possible outcomes:

If we find that your video did not violate our Community Guidelines, we’ll reinstate it and remove the strike from your account. In some instances, it’s possible that we may remove the strike from your account, but keep the video down. In some instances, it’s possible that we may reinstate your video behind an age restriction. This will happen if a violation is not found, but the content isn’t appropriate for all audiences.

If we find that your video was in violation of our Community Guidelines, we will uphold the strike and the video will remain down from the site.

Before you appeal your removal, however, you should take a moment to carefully read the Community Guidelines as well as the the Policy page because if YouTube rejects your appeal, you won’t be able to appeal again for 60 days.

Twitter

YouTube and Facebook’s process for removed posts are fairly simple, but Twitter’s are slightly more complicated. The service typically handles abuse or other bad behavior by temporarily or permanently banning entire accounts, rather than removing or suppressing single Tweets.

The Twitter Rules page outlines what the service does and does not find acceptable, but the examples and the guidlines aren’t quite as specific as Facebook’s or Youtube’s.

Twitter uses AI systems to immediately detect some tweets that contain harassing language or what it considers hate speech. Those tweets may result in a user’s account losing some functionality, like restricting replies and tweet visibility to only their followers.

There is an appeal process for getting a suspended account reinstated, but the link can be difficult to locate. You can find it here. The fields give you an opportunity to explain your actions and make a case to a human reviewer, whocan decide whether or not to give you back a fully-functioning account.

How Seo Professionals Can Avoid Becoming Obsolete

Year after year, Google is constantly changing their search algorithm and the SERPs as a whole.

With constant change – including the rise of machine learning – comes a natural fear that, someday, the roles of SEO professionals will become obsolete.

I hope to remedy some of that fear today and walk some of you through what I feel will allow you to stay relevant within the SEO industry.

The main talking points of this article will focus on the following:

How to stay relevant in the field of SEO

The value of technical SEO expertise

When to learn new skills

Being able to communicate the value of SEO

1. Stay Up to Date

The most important habit every SEO professional needs to develop is reading. Make sure you set aside some time to find resources that will allow you to get timely information when you need it.

An out of date SEO professional is an obsolete SEO professional.

The number one way to avoid becoming obsolete in SEO is being able to notice changes within the search industry.

The two main things you should always watch for:

Major algorithm changes.

SERP appearance changes.

These changes drastically alter how you approach and alter your SEO campaigns.

To stay current with the latest SEO trends you will want to periodically check the following:

The Webmaster Central Blog comes straight from Google. It’s a helpful resource to stay abreast of big industry changes. They usually provide helpful tips, references, and guides on proper implementation to meet those changes.

2. The Value of Technical SEO Expertise

Technical SEO to me revolves around the main concepts of:

Crawling.

Indexing.

Understanding.

When we have a conversation with people completely new to our industry space we must be able to clearly answer a few common questions.

How do I get my website indexed?

How does my content get crawled?

SEO professionals have no control over the organic search rankings. Thus, we can’t guarantee that our clients will rank for any given query.

But, what SEOs should always be able to offer is the ability to get webpages into Google’s index.

Before webpages are indexed, SEO pros need to understand what needs to be in place for all the contents of those pages to be crawled. Google should have everything it needs to understand the contents of each page.

The most important tool any SEO needs to learn how to use is Google Search Console. All SEO professionals use a variety of tools, but the common tool among all of them should be the Search Console. It’s the bridge between a website and Google.

This is where you will handle areas pertaining to indexing, which include:

Submitting sitemaps

Testing robots.txt

Fetching your webpage content as Google

Analyzing crawl errors and crawl stats

Requesting to remove URLs from the index

Addressing manual actions

Correcting structured data

All of the above helps you manage and audit how Google indexes and crawls a website.

Can you explain the fundamentals of how Google crawls a website? This stretches into a lengthier discussion about the importance of site architecture, sitemap optimization, and using HTML elements to name a few.

We talk about evergreen content a lot in SEO, but I think an evergreen skill in SEO is the strong understanding of how Google crawls and indexes your site.

If you know these core principles then you are well on your way to never being obsolete.

3. Learning New Skills When Needed

SEO professionals need to learn new skills and new concepts in order to have success moving forward.

You also need a solid understanding of how the web works in general.

For example, not too long ago we saw boosts in rankings for more secure, faster, and mobile-friendly websites. At each of these moments, we had to ask ourselves:

How do I make a website more secure?

How do I make my website faster?

How do I optimize my website for mobile?

These questions require technical knowledge outside the normal realm of traditional SEO knowledge.

In order to communicate your needs for these initiatives to potential engineering or development teams, you’ll also need to have a solid understanding of what they are asking for.

You don’t need to know how to implement it, but you need to know enough to give solid direction on where to look and where to begin to fix foundational problems like security, speed, or mobile responsiveness, as examples.

4. How to Communicate the Value of SEO

As long as a search engine results pages exist, SEO will never be obsolete.

As long as the algorithm continues to crawl our websites there will always be a need for SEO professionals.

Organic search will always be a channel that can provide immense value to any business.

The only time SEO could become obsolete is if the stakeholders of an organization don’t fully understand the value SEO brings to the table.

In order for you to communicate the value of SEO, you must understand everything discussed in this article so far.

You must understand exactly how search engines rank content now – and how to get a website in the index.

If you know how content is ranked and how to get pages indexed, then you can then have a conversation about utilizing the channel to hit specific KPIs and building a strategy based on those core concepts.

Traditionally, we know that the main KPIs we are most commonly tasked to hit are organic conversions and organic traffic.

Here are a few ways SEO touches and adds value to other areas of the business outside of just organic search:

Providing insights to content and copy teams with real-world search trends.

Generating initial traffic to later be used for retargeting campaigns.

Enhancing site performance ultimately benefits those in user experience.

Getting more traffic provides a larger sample size to perform tests.

Getting initial exposure to a brand to later becoming social media followers.

Nothing that provides value is ever obsolete.

Closing Thoughts

Having a solid foundation of how Google crawls and indexes your website will be all the building blocks you will need to develop comprehensive SEO strategies.

Staying up to date with the latest search changes will prevent you from marketing last year’s SEO tactics this year. Don’t be the person who promises to rank in the local 7-pack, today.

Always focus on providing value. Have a solid plan on how to provide that value and you will never be obsolete.

Yes You Can Install Ios 12 Beta Right Now, But Don’t

The anticipation for iOS 12 is high for many iPhone and iPad owners, and with iOS 12 developer beta out in the wild, many people may be tempted to install iOS 12 beta onto their devices right now.

Installing the iOS 12 developer beta is possible, but ultimately you shouldn’t. If you’re that interested in running beta system software, you should at least wait a while.

Installing iOS 12 Beta Right Now is Possible but…

It turns out that anyone can install iOS 12 beta right now through one of two means; signing up for an Apple Developer account, or by obtaining the iOS 12 developer beta profile. There’s no need to register a device UDID or anything else, all is needed is the beta profile and an iOS 12 supported device.

The first method requiring an Apple Developer account is just a matter of signing up and paying for the membership here at chúng tôi But the Developer program is intended for developers, not casual users, so this is really not a good idea unless you’re actually a developer of some sort.

The second method utilizes the iOS 12 developer beta configuration profile, which is a small file .mobileconfig file that installs onto an iPhone or iPad and then allows that device to access the iOS 12 beta system software through Software Update. The “iOS_12_Beta_Profile.mobileconfig” files can be found to download in a variety of places on the web, or perhaps from a colleague or friend with a developer account. While the beta profile can technically be installed onto any device, it is still not a good idea to do so for various reasons. One, it’s possible the beta profile .mobileconfig file is from a sketchy source and not actually legitimate or from Apple, in which case it’d be a very bad idea to install a random profile onto any iPhone or iPad. And second, even if the beta profile is legitimate and from Apple, the iOS 12 developer beta software is buggy and it will not be a good experience for most users. It’s even possible that permanent data loss could occur if the device runs into an issue with the iOS 12 developer beta system software builds. Just don’t take the risk, it’s not worth it.

Don’t Install the iOS 12 Developer Beta, Wait Instead

Early developer beta software is notoriously unreliable and is about as buggy as beta system software releases get. Thus, even if you get ahold of the iOS 12 beta profile yourself from the developer center or through a friend or elsewhere, you should fight the urge to install the early beta versions and just wait.

But I Want to Install and Beta Test iOS 12! What Should I Do?

If you really do want to beta test iOS 12, then you should wait for the iOS 12 public beta, which will start soon. The public beta builds of iOS 12 will be a bit further refined and should perform notably better than the early developer beta releases. Apple specifically created the public beta testing program to fit this desire of many users who like to explore and experiment with future system software.

If you find yourself in a bind and are currently running iOS 12 beta but regret it, don’t forget you can always downgrade iOS 12 beta back to revert back to a stable build of iOS 11.x if you need to, though you’ll want to be sure you have sufficient backups handy so that you can avoid total data loss.

Ultimately, the vast majority of iPhone and iPad users should never install beta system software at all – be it a developer beta or public beta – and instead most people are better off only installing and running the final versions of iOS when they are made available to the general public. For iOS 12, the final version will be available sometime this fall. Just have a little patience.
