Faraday Future slims factory as EV line-up reportedly slashed [Update]
Faraday Future, the would-be Tesla rival that revealed its six-figure electric supercar at CES 2023 last month, is scaling back production plans dramatically. The company, which has been mired in questions about its financial stability and the feasibility of its ambitious plans since the outset, had said that it aims to have the first Faraday Future FF 91 cars rolling off the line next year. Now, its roadmap has been seriously curtailed.
The original promise was of a vast production facility in Nevada. The $1.3bn facility would occupy a space of up to 3 million square feet, it was said, and be capable of producing 150,000 cars per year by 2023. Faraday Future had aggressive intentions to build seven different cars on its modular electric platform by that point.
Even revealing the first of those cars wasn’t smooth sailing, however. Faraday Future had intended to reveal the vehicle at CES 2023, a year ago, but was reportedly forced to throw together a concept instead after various internal delays. It was only this year when the FF 91, a $200,000+ luxury sedan, actually debuted.
Now, the company has confirmed, it’s taking a far more conservative approach to its production line too. The North Las Vegas facility will now be 650,000 square feet when building begins later this year, the company told the city, according to city manager Qiong Liu. Faraday insists that it still intends to expand that along the lines of its original promises, but has no public timescale for when that will happen.
“We remain committed to the State of Nevada and are continuing our $1 billion investment in the region over the next few years,” a spokesperson said. Back in November, the factory was put on hold completely amid reports that Faraday Future had been unable to pay contractors. Meanwhile there’s been a talent drain, with more than a dozen execs and engineers reportedly leaving the firm in recent months, and the CES afterglow was cut short when another lawsuit – this time from the designers of a “sizzle reel” for the firm, wanting $1.8m – was filed.
As a result, sources tell Reuters, Faraday has significantly trimmed its ambitions. No longer targeting seven vehicles, the automaker is now said to only have two cars in mind. The first will be the FF 91, a flagship expected to sell in small quantities.
After that, there’ll reportedly be a Faraday Future SUV. Also all-electric, it will take on cars like the Tesla Model X. Believed to be dubbed the Faraday Future FF 81, it’ll be slightly smaller than the FF 91 and also more affordable. Production, though, isn’t likely to begin until 2023 at the earliest the insiders claim, with the smaller facility producing less than 10,000 cars per year. In contrast, Tesla produced 9,500 Model X in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone.
Faraday Future is backed by LeEco, the Chinese company that has in recent years expanded to cover everything from content streaming through TVs and smartphones to ambitions of car production. In the US, however, the firm has had a tougher time, attempting to pitch its low-cost smart TVs and cheap Android handsets as it bankrolls not only Faraday Future but another car project on its home turf under the LeSee brand. LeEco founder Jia Yueting was forced to secure $2.2bn in funding recently to cover what he previously conceded had been an over-stretched expansion.
Update: [2/3/2023] A Faraday Future spokesperson tells us that the reports of a scaling-back are inaccurate, and suggests that the automaker is in fact adopting a “multi-stage” approach to its manufacturing. That, the spokesperson insists, will allow the FF 91 to reach the market sooner. Below is their full statement:
“As part of a long-term development plan to bring manufacturing facilities online at a steady pace, Faraday Future is moving forward with a multi-stage manufacturing strategy at APEX North Las Vegas.
The initial phase of our Stage 1 Manufacturing Project, which included mass grading, was completed at the factory construction site last November. We will soon embark on the second phase of Stage 1 Manufacturing Project, which will include the construction of a facility on site.
We expect planning, engineering, and construction of this Stage 1 Manufacturing Project to proceed rapidly so that we can bring our flagship vehicle, the FF 91, to production more quickly. At a later date, this Stage 1 Manufacturing Project will be integrated into the Stage 2 Manufacturing Project, which is scheduled to start construction later this year.
Faraday Future remains committed to the State of Nevada and our $1B investment in the region over the next few years.”

Comment: The Ipad Precedent May Predict The Future Of Apple’s Macbook Line
Back in 2023, I gave my view of how I’d revamp the MacBook line-up. Leaving aside the specific sizes, based on a then-rumor that never panned out, I suggested that it didn’t make sense to retain three categories.
It seemed to me untidy to have a range which ran MacBook Air then MacBook then MacBook Pro. Assuming the reports of this year’s MacBook Air are broadly correct, things could potentially get even messier this year.
Already, the smallest laptop sits in the middle of the price range, but the rumors say this year’s MacBook Air will have a Retina display and a ‘slim design.’ If the new MacBook Air gets slimmer, and it gets a Retina display, then why would anyone pay $1299 for a MacBook rather than $899 for a MacBook Air with a slightly bigger screen … ?
So there would now seem even more reason for Apple to replace a three-category range with a two-category one.
Supply chain sources may well have visibility of specs, but they don’t have any reason to know anything about branding until the casing design is finalized. Given that the latest report suggests that production has been pushed back into Q3, it’s entirely possible that the MacBook Air brand will disappear, and we’d be left with a range divided into two categories:
13-inch MacBook, from $899
13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro models, from $1299
The 12-inch MacBook in its current incarnation would be discontinued.
The counter-argument, of course, is that Apple would be taking a really big financial hit if it replaced a $1299 machine with an $899 one. On the face of it, that seems a very un-Apple-like thing to do.
The iPad precedentBut there is precedent, in the iPad range. Previously, if you wanted a cheap iPad, you either had to buy an iPad mini, or an older 9.7-inch iPad. But all that changed this year, with the launch of the $329 iPad. That got you a brand-new model with a decent spec and Apple Pencil support.
As I wrote at the time, it might have looked a risky move. Apple was suddenly offering a much cheaper iPad that would satisfy the needs of a large proportion of consumers. But I argued that it actually made sense, because Apple had been careful to ensure that sufficient features were exclusive to the Pro model costing almost twice as much.
The $329 iPad gives you a headline feature previously limited to the iPad Pro (Apple Pencil support), but holds back a whole bunch of other things. The iPad Pro costs you a lot more money but gives more discerning buyers a lot of reason to choose it:
A seemingly small difference in screen size makes a big difference to the experience
Wider color gamut (P3 on the Pro)
True Tone display for more accurate colors in real-life use
Anti-reflective coating, for more comfortable outdoor usage
The rear camera is much better (12MP/4K/f1.8/OIS/True Tone flash versus 8MP/1080p/f2.4/none)
Four speakers versus two for significantly better audio
Bigger storage options
How it would play out with MacBooksApple could be doing exactly the same thing here. Offer an affordable version of the existing MacBook, leaving consumers to choose between that and the MacBook Pro. Provided it keeps a sufficient gap between the specs (and really it wouldn’t take a whole bullet-point list like that, probably GPU power could be enough), it could end up in exactly the same position as the iPad.
Budget buyers would choose the $899 MacBook and be very happy with their slim, Retina-screened device. More demanding buyers would see that the MacBook Pro range starts at the same price as the old 12-inch MacBook, and see it as good value for the increase in spec. Pro users would continue to spend anything from $1299 to $4199 depending on their needs and the depth of their pockets.
So that’s my bet as to Apple’s plan. What is rumored to be a new MacBook Air is actually the new MacBook. The 12-inch MacBook will be discontinued. And Apple will keep the new MacBook spec low enough to ensure that it keeps enough people spending $1299 and up.

Audi is no stranger to bedazzling concept cars, but few stretch the imagination quite like the new Audi skysphere. More ambitious than the the e-tron GT Concept – which, three years ago, was a production-ready prototype – or the A6 e-tron Concept which itself looks almost ready for the showroom, it’s a vision of a Level 4 autonomous future that intersects with the recent grandsphere concept, formerly known as the Artemis Concept, but at the same time takes pains not to leave keen drivers out of the game.
It certainly has the presence to merit your undivided attention, but skysphere has a jaw-dropping feature: the concept offers two different driving experiences by physically changing its wheelbase. Audi’s proprietary variable wheelbase system consists of electric motors and a “sophisticated mechanism” with body-on-frame components that slide to alter the wheelbase and length of the car by 250 millimeters, or almost 10-inches.
“It’s a car with a dual personality,” said Gael Buzyn, Senior Director of Audi Design Loft in Malibu, where the skysphere’s transforming shape was crafted. “It’s a grand touring car in autonomous mode but transforms into a true sports car when being driven.” The vehicle can also raise or lower its ground clearance by 10 millimeters when converting from GT to sports mode, and all the magic happens at the touch of a button.
In Sports mode, then, the Audi skysphere Concept is 4.94 meters long due to its reduced wheelbase. Switching to Grand Touring Level 4 autonomous mode, however, and the car measures 5.19 meters. This mode has a reconfigured interior with the steering wheel and pedals folded away cleanly, further enhancing space for a genuinely luxurious drive.
“It’s a perfect combination of comfort and performance,” added Buzyn. “We knew with today’s technology, the one that is building the revolution we’re going through like digitalization, electrification, and automation, that we could elevate the experience to a higher level and redefine the driving experience.”
Measuring a total of 5.20 meters in length, it had an equally majestic five-liter straight-eight internal combustion engine under its elongated bonnet. Buzyn and his team of brilliant designers took the iconic proportions of the Horsh 853 and reinterpreted it for modern times. “I did many many cars in my career, but skysphere is the most exciting showcar I’ve ever worked on with my team,” said Marc Lichte, head of Audi Design. “The Horsch 853 has been benchmarked in driving dynamics and comfort, and the Audi skysphere is a modern, very progressive interpretation of those two characteristics.”
On the styling front, you won’t mistake the skysphere concept for anything but an Audi. It still wears the brand’s trademarked Singleframe grille, but with the cooling demands of an EV significantly different it now has a blank front with illuminated four rings and white LED lights on the sides. They can animate to show different visual effects. Typical of an Audi RS model, skysphere has flared wheel arches, a wider track, and short overhangs.
The rear end is as exciting as the front, meanwhile, combining the visual elements of a speedster and a shooting brake (think “two door sporty station wagon”) with large glass surfaces. The taillights are like “rubies across the vertical rear surface” Audi waxes, and extend across the car’s entire width. Transforming the vehicle from GT to Sports mode illuminates a signature lighting pattern from the headlights and taillights. The future does look bright, after all.
Typical of a concept, the Audi skysphere has fancy rear-hinged, wide-opening doors, revealing an immaculate cabin lined in sustainable materials like eco-friendly microfiber, eucalyptus wood, and synthetic leather upholstery to keep things thoroughly green. The entire dash fascia is a screen, similar to the Hyperscreen in a Mercedes-Benz EQS, offering 56 inches x 7 inches of visual real estate. However, half the screen moves forward to the driver when engaging in Sport mode, a complicated technical masterpiece that I wish would make it to production soon.
More than a concept, Audi skysphere presages a new design language for the German brand. With Audi grandsphere and the incoming Audi urbansphere concept we’re told to expect in 2023, Audi is showcasing what it sees as the new future of mobility: where human drivers and their digital counterparts not only coexist but collaborate, in a vehicle that accommodates both. The stretching, shrinking wheelbase may not make it to production, but the skysphere’s duality of driving experiences looks certain to.
How To Factory Reset Your Iphone And Ipad
There are a few different situations in which you may want to factory reset your iPhone or iPad. For instance, if multiple apps are repeatedly crashing, if your device is running slow, or if your iPhone is behaving erratically, and you can’t work out the reason or solution.
The factory reset wipes out your device and can fix specific problems that may be impairing its performance. This stands true for all the iPhones right from the latest iPhone 14 series to the iPhone 6s.
However, it should be thought of as a last resort and must only be done after more straightforward solutions such as restarting or force restarting your device have not fixed the issues you’re encountering.
What happens when you factory reset your iPhone?
As the term ‘factory reset’ suggests, this option restores the software on your device to the way it was when it left the factory. This means that all the settings return to the default, and all your data such as downloaded apps, photos, music, documents, and other files are deleted. After a factory reset of your iPhone or iPad, you can practically set up your device from scratch ‘like new’.
Does a factory reset delete everything?
This depends on what exactly you are resetting. Whether you’re looking to factory reset an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13 series or any of its predecessors, there are six different options available. Let’s have a brief look at each of them.
When you go to Settings → General → Reset:
Reset All Settings: This will reset your Home screen layout, location settings, network settings, privacy settings, the keyboard dictionary, and your Apple Pay cards to the default. If you choose this option, you Will not delete Files and media.
Reset Network Settings: This deletes all your network settings such as wifi login credentials and networks that your phone automatically connects to. Further, manually trusted website certificates are rolled back to untrusted, and your device’ name’ is reset to just “iPhone”
Reset Keyboard Dictionary: Selecting this option will delete any words you might have added to the default keyboard dictionary on your iPhone
Reset Home Screen Layout: This will eliminate your custom layout or app folders on the Home screen. All the stock iOS apps will return to their default positions, and the Home Screen will return to looking like it was when you first set up your iPhone. Your data will be safe.
Reset Location & Privacy: As the name suggests, this option restores the location services and privacy settings of your iPhone to their defaults.
Erase All Content & Settings: This option is what we usually refer to when talking about factory reset. It completely removes all of your content and settings, restoring your iPhone to the way it was when you first bought it
So, it is only the Erase All Content & Settings option that will delete all the data from your device except the default apps and settings.

Command Line New Features In Windows 10
Many changes were made in Windows 10 but some changes haven’t been discussed much. One of those changes has to do with the Command Line, and as such, we will focus on that.
Improvements to the Command Line in Windows 10Now, there are several new changes Microsoft has done to the Command Line, and from what we can tell, developers and those regular folks who prefer to use the Command Line for various reasons, have found the changes quite pleasing.
Without wasting any time, then, let’s talk about some of the new stuff.
Tar and Curl supportAs for CURL, well, it’s a CLI tool that allows for sending and receiving files. It supports several protocols, and guess what? Users can easily make an HTTP request and view the response from the Command Line.
Background tasksIt was always possible for Windows 10 users to run a background task, but the problem is, but the WSL console had to be kept running, or the task would end. With this newest update, users can run their background task without worrying about the WSL console.
You see, if its clothes, the tasks will continue to work, and that’s great.
Support for Unix SocketsHere’s the thing, Unix Sockets were not supported on Windows 10, but that has all changed with the v1803 update. Additionally, it’s possible to communicate over Unix sockets between Windows and WSL.

OpenSSH-based client and serverThe OpenBSD Foundation were the ones who created the OpenSSH suite of tools. We understand this suite of tools were created for remote command-line administration, public/private key management, secure file transfers, and more.
With this new update, users now have the chance to play around with the SSH client and key agent. As for the SSH server, it’s an optional feature that is available on-demand.
These tools were hotly requested by the Windows 10 community, so a lot of folks should feel quite happy about what Microsoft has done.
Hyper-V and Enhance SessionIn the past, it wasn’t possible for Linux VMs running on Hyper-V to benefit from an enhanced session mode, but this is no longer the case with the Windows 10 v1803 update. Microsoft says this is made possible by the open source XRDP project, which allows the company to interact with Linux VMs in the same way it interacts with Windows via the RDP protocol.
Should you give this a try, you’ll see significant improvements in the user experience, and that’s always good news.
UWP Console ApplicationsMicrosoft is pushing the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) as the future, but despite years of improvements, it’s still limited when compared to the old ways of delivering applications. If you wanted to create a console application, the only option was to work with the legacy options, but now, this is no longer the case.
Yes, you’ve read correctly, UWP Console applications are now supported in Windows. Developers can now ship their Console Applications to the Microsoft Store whenever they please.
How To Factory Reset Windows To Its Default Settings
If you’re having trouble with your Windows PC or planning to give it away or sell it, you may want to reset it to factory settings to erase your data. A full factory reset erases all your apps, settings, and files to return it to the way it was when you first purchased it. It’s a quick way to start from scratch.
Note: a Windows factory reset is a good way to fix many drive update issues and registry errors. However, you have to be patient, as the process can consume a lot of time, so allocate at least a few hours for this activity. This works for both Windows 10 and 11.
Note: factory resetting your Windows PC should be treated as the last option. It is best to troubleshoot the issues first, be it a Windows Store error, Windows update issues, or a Bad System Config error. Only reset the PC if none of the solutions work.
Back Up Your DataA Windows factory reset erases all your data. This includes pictures, documents, music, etc. Back up all your important files before you perform the reset. You can do this easily by copying your files to an external hard drive, a flash drive, or your favorite cloud service. Alternatively, create a backup to a network drive.
You can simply copy and paste the files you want to keep or do a full system backup – either one will work. Do not make a system copy to another partition on the same hard drive as Windows.
Reset Windows to Factory DefaultsAfter all your files are safe, it’s time to start the reset process.
Select “Update & Security” in the left pane.
Select whether you want to keep or remove files. If you choose “Keep my files,” Windows attempts to reset everything but preserves personal files. It will delete any apps and app settings, though. If you choose “Remove everything,” Windows deletes everything. It’s best to delete everything if you’re having trouble or selling/donating/giving away your PC.
Choose whether to reinstall Windows with a local copy (this may be a recovery partition or physical media) or a cloud download.
Select custom installation options. These will vary slightly based on other options you’ve chosen. You’ll see things like “Clean data,” “Download Windows,” whether to wipe all drives or just the Windows drive, and whether to reinstall the preinstalled apps with your PC.
The PC will reset in the background. The exact time varies greatly based on the size of your hard drive and what type of reset you chose. For instance, deleting everything and installing all preinstalled apps will take longer. If you have a slower Internet connection, choosing to download Windows will also add to the time.
Advanced Startup “Reset” MethodAnother option is to reset the Windows PC in Safe mode. This is preferred if you are stuck infinitely in the “Prepare to reset” option in the above section. It is mostly a GUI error. The same procedure is used in safe mode, but the steps are slightly different, as shown below.
To reset Windows in Safe mode:
Go to “Advanced Startup” in the Start menu. Once the blue screen starts, go to “Troubleshooting” followed by “Reset this PC.” You will get a choice to reset only the driver where Windows is installed or all drives. Choose the latter for a complete reset.
You will get the choice to “fully clean the drive” or just “remove the files.”
After the Reset FinishesOnce the reset finishes, you’ll receive the same prompts to set up your PC as you did when you first bought it. This includes setting up your network, setting your time zone, and various personal settings. Go step by step through these screens to get Windows back to the way it was.
Before you add your files, install all Windows updates. When you factory reset Windows, it also removes all updates that didn’t come with the original installation.
Press Win + I to open Settings.
Select “Update & Security.”
Choose “Windows Update.”
Search for updates and install all that you find. You’ll likely need to repeat this process several times to get them all. The process can take a few hours, depending on how much you need to install.
Finally, reinstall any apps that didn’t come with Windows that you use regularly. These may include games, productivity apps, photo editors, antivirus, etc.
Once everything else is set up, it’s time to copy your files over. If you did a system backup, you can use this versus having to reinstall all your apps.
Frequently Asked Questions Will a factory reset remove viruses?Yes. However, if you don’t delete all the files, it’s possible the virus will still be attached to your files. Scan your backup drive for viruses before copying your files to the PC.
Why are some of my files missing if I chose to keep personal files during the reset?While Windows usually does a good job of retaining your personal files, sometimes they do get deleted or corrupted during the process. This is why it’s important to make a full backup before doing a reset.
