Suggested April 2024 How To Add Apps To Passbook On Ios

iOS 6’s new option, Passbook, might not have as many options as users, or even Apple, would like it to have at the moment, but once it gets moving, hopefully more stores and businesses will sign up. Yet even with it’s limited offerings, it can still be beneficial.

The first time you open up Passbook, it displays the above screen. It shows your choices of the types of tickets, passes, cards, and coupons you can add. It also gives you a handy link to the App Store. This is because the cards, etc., that you add to Passbook are all done through apps. The link automatically takes you to the section of the App Store that has all the Passbook apps.

The listing of the number of stores and businesses that have developed apps to work with Passbook has already grown in number just in the short time since its release. And the companies that have been added are big names like American Express and McDonald’s, although for right now, the McDonald’s app is only available in France, but hopefully it will expand to other countries soon. The apps are downloaded just like regular apps.

For many of these apps, they’re the same apps that were already existing, and the Passbook option has just been built into it. This is the case with the first Passbook app I tried – Walgreens. I had been given a Balance Rewards card, a card for a new savings program Walgreens is utilizing, but couldn’t find it. No matter. When I opened the app, it gave me the option of either entering my card, getting a card from my existing account, or starting a new account.

After signing up for the Balance Rewards card with my account, it pops up with a mobile version of the card and gives me a button to add it to Passbook. Looking around the app, I can check out the bonus buys that are available to me with the Balance Rewards card.

I downloaded a selection of the apps, but many of them are ones I just plan to use someday, such as the one for movie tickets. The other app that I can use now is Target. It not only stores gift cards, but also allows for coupons. I was able to pull up weekly coupons for the store, and it made a pass just for this week that I was able to add to Passbook.

This all works great, but what I especially can’t wait to use Passbook for is the airline tickets. Currently American Airlines and United Airlines have signed on. I print out my own boarding passes currently, and this way I’ll be able to do it all from my phone. It should be interesting as well to see what other businesses will sign on to Passbook. If the businesses that are included have enough success with it, it shouldn’t take too long before it becomes a popular feature with as many business as you can imagine.

How To Quit Apps On Iphone X With Ios 11

Want to quit apps on iPhone X with iOS 11? Maybe an app is misbehaving or draining your battery, or maybe you don’t want to updating or doing things in the background. If you need to quit running apps on iPhone X, you may have noticed that the traditional swipe up gesture does not work to close the app and instead sends you back to the home screen.

Instead, iPhone X has a new method of quitting apps that uses a two part method composed of both a gesture and then a tap and hold. It may take a little bit of getting used to, but the end result is the same; you can close out of running iOS apps.

How to Quit Apps on iPhone X

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause for a moment to access the application switcher on iPhone X

Now tap and hold on any app preview card until the red “(-)” minus symbol appears in the corner of each app preview card

Tap the red “(-)” minus symbol to quit the app *

Swipe over to other app(s) and tap the red minus (-) button on those to quit as well, if desired

Swipe up again from the very bottom of the screen to exit out of the multitasking screen on iPhone X

* Once the red buttons appear, you can then swipe up on the preview cards to quit the apps. You can also tap multiple red minus buttons concurrently to quit multiple apps at the same time on iPhone X.

That’s it, just swipe up to access the multitasking screen, then tap and hold, then tap the red button to quit apps on iPhone X. Or, tap and hold, then swipe up once you see the red buttons appear on the app previews. The tap and hold action is a bit like what you use to delete iOS apps quickly from the Home Screen too, so it should be familiar to iOS users. Of course here we’re just quitting the app rather than deleting it, however.

The video below shows how this works, starting from the swipe and pause gesture, then tapping and holding to quit apps on iPhone X multitasking screen:

Note that if you simply swipe up on an app preview card, like how you quit apps on prior iOS devices, you’ll wind up back at the home screen of the iPhone X. But, you can swipe up after the red minus buttons appear on the app preview cards, that will close the apps as well.

How to quit apps in iOS has always been evolving, from what you see now on iPhone X (which perhaps will carry over to other devices, or change on iPhone X), to changing slightly just on iPad with iOS 11, to the swipe up movement on iOS 11, iOS 9, and iOS 10, to slight adjustments in appearance with iOS 8 and 7 but an otherwise familiar swipe up gesture, to… wait for it…. swiping up to access the multitasking bar and then tapping and holding on an app icon to quit the app… way back in good old iOS 6. In some ways we’ve come full circle when it comes to quitting apps now, but it goes without saying that the necessary actions change fairly frequently, so don’t be surprised if it changes yet again for iPhone X.

How To Add And Rearrange Apps In Apple Tv

So you got a brand new Apple TV 4K, and now that you’re done setting up the basics, you might be looking to get some of your favourite apps. Well, it’s really quite easy to add apps in Apple TV, and there are many ways that you can install apps, and even rearrange apps on the Apple TV 4K easily. So, whether you’re looking to play some amazing Apple TV games, or install your favourite streaming services like Netflix, here is how to add apps in Apple TV.

Install Apps in Apple TV (tvOS) in 2023

Whether you’re trying to find and install a new app, re-download a previously used app, or rearrange your tvOS home screen to look the way you want it to, we will be covering all of it in this guide. As always, you can use the table of contents below to skip ahead to any section that you want to learn about.

How to Add Apps in Apple TV

First, let’s take a look at how to install new (and previously used) apps on your Apple TV. We will take a look at downloading new apps, and re-downloading apps on Apple TV.

Install New Apps on Apple TV

On your Apple TV, open the App Store.

Here, you can check out the best apps according to Apple in the ‘Discover’ tab, or head over to any of the other tabs to see apps, games, Apple Arcade games for Apple TV, and more.

Head over to the ‘Search’ icon in the Apple TV.

You can now type to search the app you want, or press and hold the ‘mic’ icon in the Apple TV remote to dictate the app you are searching for. In this example, we will search and install ‘Just Watch’.

Once you’ve typed (or spoken) the name of the app, select it from the results below.

Note: Your Apple TV might ask you to confirm your Apple ID password before downloading the app. You can use your iPhone to enter the password easily. You can also use your iPhone to control your Apple TV as well.

How to Re-download Apps Re-download apps by searching

Open the App Store, and head to the search tab.

Here, search for the app you want to download again. For this example, I will be reinstalling the Prime Video app.

Find purchased apps in the App Store

If you don’t remember the name of the app you want to reinstall, you can find all your previously used, downloaded, or purchased apps pretty easily. The best part is that if you’ve used the app on a different Apple TV connected to your Apple ID, it will show up on any Apple TVs that are connected with the same Apple ID as well.

Open the App Store, and head to the ‘Purchased’ tab.

Here, you can use the filters on the left of the screen to easily find the app you’re looking for.

Recently Purchased: these are apps you’ve recently downloaded, regardless of whether they are currently installed or not.

Not on This TV: these are the apps that are in your library, but have not been installed.

All Apps: these are all the apps you have ever purchased or downloaded on any Apple TV connected with your Apple ID, regardless of whether they are currently installed or not.

Find the app you want to install by navigating through the ‘Purchased’ section, and open its App Store listing.

That’s it, the app will now be installed on your Apple TV, and you can find it on your home screen.

How to Rearrange Apps on Home Screen in tvOS 15

Now that you’ve installed a bunch of your favourite Apple TV apps, your home screen might be looking a little cluttered. Maybe you want to arrange your apps in a particular order by frequency of use, or maybe you simply want to update your top row so your favourite apps can show content suggestions. Either way, here’s how you can rearrange apps on the tvOS 15 home screen.

Select the app you want to move and long press the center button on your Apple TV remote. The app will start jiggling.

You can now move the app around on the home screen and place it wherever you like.

How to Create Folders in Apple TV Home Screen

For even better organisation, you can create folders on the home screen of your Apple TV. Here’s how to do this.

Long press on an app to enter jiggle mode.

Move the app such that it hovers over another app on the home screen. In a second or two, tvOS will create a folder as you can see in the GIF below.

Simply press the center button on the remote to add the app to the folder, and that’s it.

Bonus: Switch Between Open Apps and Force Quit Apps on Apple TV

Double press the TV button on the Apple TV remote. This will open up the recent apps screen on your Apple TV.

The tvOS Recent Apps Screen

You can now swipe through the app cards to switch to a different app.

What’s more, you can select an app in the recents app screen and then swipe up on your Apple TV remote trackpad, and it will quit the app. This is similar to how it works on an iPhone, so it’s quite intuitive.

The feature can liven up your Snapchat life if you think sharing snaps without music is boring. It is fun-loving and can help you build more streaks if you stick to conversations daily. Let me show how you can add music to your Snapchat story on iPhone.

Featured Sounds are a pre-installed set of tracks that you can use while sharing a story or snap. You need to pick the right track and hit Share. To know more about what they are, let’s get started with the basics.

Launch the Snapchat app on your iOS device.

Take a snap using the capture button.

Then tap on the Music button and Choose the Featured Sounds.

Tap the play button to check if you like the song you’re adding.

Launch the Snapchat app.

Capture your snap or record your video.

Tap on the My Sound and Create Sound.

Here you can create your own sound, or you can use any preferred music app to add sound. Here I’m using Spotify to add sound.

Do not close that app or remove it from recent apps.

Now, switch to the Snapchat app again.

Open Control Center and resume the track you played, then close it.

Tap the microphone button to record the track playing.

Snapchat will start recording the sound using the built-in microphone on iPhone.

When you’re done recording the portion you want to share, tap the Stop button and Pause the music player.

Tap on Save Sound and Toggle on to Make this Sound Public.

Give a name to the sound and write your name underneath it.

Hit Save Sound to confirm.

Now tap on the sound to add it to the snap.

Hit the Ok button.

Launch the Spotify app.

Navigate to the song or album that you want to share.

Tap on the More icon beside a song name.

Select Share.

Choose the Snapchat app and you will be redirected to the Snapchat app.

Edit the snap if you want.

Tap Story or Send To and share it accordingly.

How To Do Private Browsing On Iphone On Ios 15

Privacy and security have always been of growing concern since the internet started reaching new bounds and territories. With its current growth and investment taken into account, its no doubt that every second software company now focuses on user privacy.

Apple is no different as they have introduced nifty features in iOS 15 to help enhance and maintain your privacy. Nobody likes giving away their IP addresses when browsing the internet or having trackers plot their every move.

Hence, here’s a complete guide to help you set up private browsing using various tools and apps in iOS 15. Let’s get started.

Private browsing on iOS 15

Private browsing as a concept involves various things. Maintaining anonymity, hiding your IP address, encrypting your data, and much more. There’s a couple of things that you can do in iOS 15 to maximize your privacy.

Let’s start with setting up Safari first. We will then enable a private relay or VPN depending on your subscriptions and then install additional Safari extensions.

You can then use incognito browsing on your device for complete privacy. Follow the guides below to get you started.

Related: How To Fix Safari Issues on iOS 15

Step 1: Setup Safari

Safari has dedicated options to stop trackers and increase your privacy when browsing the internet. Follow the guide below to enable or disable the necessary options depending on your preferences.

Open the Settings app on your device, scroll down and tap on Safari.

Tap and select your Search Engine at the top. We recommend you use DuckDuckGo for enhanced privacy.

We recommend you turn off the following toggles at your discretion to avoid sharing your browsing data with Apple and your default search engine provider.

Search Engine Suggestions

Safari Suggestions

Quick Website Search

Preload Top Hit

Now scroll down and enable the following toggles. Additionally, select ‘From Trackers’ when you tap on ‘Hide IP Address’.

Prevent Cross-Site Tracking

Hide IP Address

Block All Cookies (Optional)

Fraudulent Website Warning

Privacy-Preserving Ad Measurement

Additionally, disable the toggle for ‘Check for Apple Pay’. Scroll down now and tap on the following components. We recommend you select ‘Deny’ but you can set certain components to ‘Ask’ if you use them regularly within Safari.

Safari is now set up for maximum privacy. We can now hide your IP address entirely using the guide below.

Step 2: Enable Private Relay/VPN

While a private relay differs from VPN, both can hide your IP address which is essential for maintaining your privacy online. The upside of using either of these is that you will hide your IP address system-wide.

This means that apps too won’t be able to view your actual IP address. If you have a VPN subscription then we recommend you enable your VPN at the earliest.

You will end up encrypting your browsing data, hiding your IP address, and most importantly, changing your location. We recommend you opt for a paid and trusted VPN rather than using a free one.

Most free VPNs have some sort of compromising privacy policy that might put your data at risk in the future.

However in this case you can also check out Apple’s Private Relay feature. While this will only hide your IP address without the additional perks of a VPN, you will end up getting a subscription to iCloud + which means additional cloud storage and backup features.

If you’re interested in Private Relay, then here’s how you can subscribe and use it on your device.

Open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID at the top.

Now tap on ‘iCloud’.

Scroll down and ensure that iCloud is enabled on your device. Tap on ‘Private Relay (beta)’ now.

You will now be shown the basic plan for iCloud+ for your region. The prices could vary. If you wish to select a higher plan, tap on ‘See other plans’.

Tap and select your plan at the top.

Tap on ‘Upgrade to iCloud+’.

Tap on ‘Subscribe’ now and approve your payment.

Tap on ‘Private Relay’ again once you are subscribed and enable the toggle for the same. Tap on ‘IP Address Location’ and you should now have the following options. Select either one depending on your current privacy needs.

Maintain General Location: Using this option will allow trackers to determine your general location. Your precise location and exact whereabouts will be hidden.

Use Country and Time Zone: This option will use a broader area to represent your location however, your IP address will still be shown within your country and time zone only.

You can now close the Settings app. Private Relay is now enabled for your device.

Step 3: Install necessary extensions

Use the guide below to find and install the desired necessary extensions on Safari. You will find our recommended extensions at the end.

Open Settings and tap on ‘Safari’.

Tap on ‘Extensions’.

Tap on ‘More Extensions’.

You will now be redirected to the app store section for extensions. Find and install the desired extensions on your device. You can then use this guide to set them up and start using them within Safari.

If you’re looking for some privacy-focused extensions for Safari, then you can check out our top 6 picks below.

Step 4: Access incognito tabs

Lastly, we recommend using Incognito tabs whenever possible within Safari. Unless you’re using a service or logging into Safari, you don’t need permanent cookies on your device.

Incognito tabs will help you maintain this by deleting them all once you close your browsing session. If Safari’s new UI seems daunting, then here’s how you can access Incognito tabs.

Open Safari and tap on the tabs icon in the bottom right corner.

Tap on ‘Start Page’ at the bottom.

Select ‘Private’.

Tap on ‘+’ to add your first tab and start browsing.

You can also move your tab bar to the top of Safari. Refer to this guide by us to get you started.

How is a Private Relay different from a VPN?

The two services are vastly different but in regards to privacy, a private relay helps hide your IP address from everyone on the internet. VPN on the other hand encrypts your data packets when they are being transmitted.

This helps hide your activity from everyone except your VPN provider. Your IP address is hidden as well when using a VPN but it will be available to your provider which often puts you at the mercy of their privacy policies.

A private relay on the other hand when activated will hide your IP address from your VPN provider as well. So you might want to use either one or a combination of both depending on your privacy needs.

Should you pay for a Private Relay?

This completely depends on your budget and if you can shell out monthly charges for this service and iCloud +. We wouldn’t recommend a private relay subscription in case you are already subscribed to a VPN unless privacy is of utmost importance to you and has potential consequences to your workflow or finances.

It is, however, recommended for users not subscribed to anything, looking to enhance their privacy. However, if you feel that data encryption is more important to you, then you can opt for a paid VPN as well.

There are tons of industry-tested and trusted services out there with transparent privacy policies that should help you get the job done.
