Sometimes while playing games, you experience annoying lags in the network. It makes all the difference in gaming. NAT or Network address translation is responsible for this. In this guide, we explain what NAT is and how to change NAT type on a Windows 11/10 PC.

What is Network Address Translation (NAT)

Network Address Translation (NAT) is a process where an IP address is mapped to a different address by modifying the network address information. NAT works in the router and translates the private addresses into a single public IP address. Your router becomes the mediator between your IP address and the internet in this process.

Your internet might slow down with strict NAT settings which are not visible in normal browsing. But, you can experience it while gaming. To beat this, there are three NAT types, they are:

NAT Type 1 (Open) – This type has no restrictions in sending or receiving data as it has no firewall. It offers better speeds and very little buffering or lag, it is not a safe option as it do not have firewall protection which makes your network vulnerable to attacks.

NAT Type 2 (Moderate) – This type is more secure than Type 1. A few ports are open and have a firewall to protect your network. Compared to Type 1, the internet may slightly slow down.

NAT Type 3 (Strict) – This type is a more strict and secure NAT type. This type protects your network from attacks and is set by default in most routers. The internet is slower than the other two types.

Let’s see how we can change the NAT type on PC.

How to change NAT type on PC

You can change the NAT type on a Windows 11/10 PC in different ways. They are:

Port forwarding

Network Discovery method

UPnP method

Using a Configuration file

Let’s get into the details of each method.

1] Port forwarding

This is one of the easiest methods to change the NAT type on a PC. Before going into this process, you need to find out which ports are being used by the games you play. To find the ports used by an application or game,

Type Win+R on your keyboard and type cmd and press Enter

Now, to change the NAT type in the port-forwarding method,

Access your router configuration page and find the Port Forwarding option

Enter the port numbers you have noted in the first section and IP address in the next column.

Now, select both UDP and TCP options

Save the settings and restart the router.

Now the NAT Type has changed.

2] Network Discovery method

To change the NAT type in this method,

Open Control Panel from the Start menu

Now, check the button beside Turn on network discovery and Save changes at the bottom

3] UPnP method

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) method is done in the router settings. It helps devices discover one another on a network by enabling automatic port forwarding. UPnP method makes you vulnerable on the network and is not a safe method. Before going into the process, make sure your IP address is static.

To change the NAT type in the UPnP method,

Open your router settings on a browser

Find UPnP and turn it on.

That’s it. Your NAT Type is now changed.

4] Using a Configuration file

To change the NAT Type in this method,

Open your router configuration page on a web browser

Find Save or Restore Configuration options in the settings

Save the file on your PC, and make another copy for backup

Open the Configuration file and find “last bind“

Then, type  “bind application=CONE(UDP) port=1111-1111” by replacing the port number with the port numbers used by the game or application. Save the file.

Restart your router to apply the changes.

These are the different ways using which you can change the NAT type on a PC. Also, if you don’t want to get into all these, you can use a VPN to bypass NAT types. A VPN gives you complete security by encrypting your traffic and data in a tunnel.

How do I check my NAT-type PC?

NAT Type is visible on the router settings page. You need to access router settings with the address and credentials according to your router make on a browser and see the NAT type.

Is there a way to change the NAT type?

There are different ways to change the NAT type. They are, by Port forwarding, by Network Discovery method, by UPnP method, or by Using a Configuration File. You can also use a VPN to bypass NAT settings.

How To Get Instagram Or Snapchat On Windows Pc

In this age where everyone is on Social Media, Instagram and Snapchat are the top services along with WhatsApp and Facebook that people are using to share with the world whatever they are doing – their vacations and what not! People are using Snapchat to send disappearing messages, photos and videos along with Stories. Whereas, people use Instagram to upload photos and videos, post their Stories and send disappearing photo messages. Today, we will show how you can use Instagram or Snapchat on Windows 11/10/8/7 PC.

Snapchat was first released in September 2011 with the initial concept of people sharing what they have been doing lately and communicating with each other by sending photos and videos. Since then it has been six years, and the service has evolved a lot since then. Now, the V10 of Snapchat has a better UI with features like AR Objects being placed in users’ surroundings people using AR-based face masks. And AR being a major area of focus by major tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, and more, it keeps more opportunities for developers, content creators and companies themselves to do more in both development and financial terms. Snapchat is available for Android and iOS, and no official Windows 10 app is rumored to come.

Instagram was released earlier in October 2010 for iOS and in October 2012 for Android phones. After a long time of not updating the Windows Phone app, they released a new Windows 10 app for Mobile and PC in 2024. These new apps were brought to Windows from iOS as a result of Facebook’s OSMeta technology to port apps across platforms. Since then, the Windows 10 apps are being regularly updated to be kept feature-rich as compared with the Android and iOS apps. Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 Billion in 2012. Facebook later offered to acquire Snapchat for $3 Billion cash but the offer was turned down by Snapchat, and as a result, Facebook introduced Instagram Stories cloning the old Snapchat Stories and other similar features competing directly with Snapchat! And believe it or not, Instagram Stories are used more than Snapchat Stories.

Can you use Snapchat or Instagram on a Windows computer?

Can you use Snapchat on a Windows PC? Yes, it is possible to use Snapchat on a Windows 11/10 computer. Yes, this app works best on Android and iOS for now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun on Windows 11/10 as well. Just know that the experience might not be as good as you want it to be.

There are multiple ways to use Snapchat or Instagram on a Windows 11 or Windows 10 computer. The information below should improve your knowledge of such things. We have taken the example of Snapchat but a similar procedure needs to be followed for Instagram.

Use Snapchat on the web without having to log in

One of the first things you can do here is to use Snapchat via the web. You won’t get the full experience, so this is something you need to keep in mind.

Use Snapchat on the web while logged in

The downside here is no option to upload content. No option to take selfies, etc.

Why is it better to use emulated apps?

We recommend using the emulation of Android apps on Windows PCs rather than using Windows 11/10 apps like Instagram due to certain real distinguishing factors. First of all, many Windows PC apps don’t support every feature that the mobile variants of the apps do. This includes the photo and video upload from the Windows PC app for Instagram. And as many top Android and iOS apps like Snapchat are not available for Windows 11/10 like Snapchat, it is obvious for the person to use emulators like Bluestacks or Noxplayer and Andy Android Emulator.

How to use Instagram or Snapchat on Windows PC using emulators

There are times when a user does not want to switch devices just to use an app. Or maybe, they might be using an older, unsupported, or feature phone then they have a PC as an alternative to be used to run these apps via emulation.

There are plenty of freeware available for Android apps on Windows PCs like Bluestacks, Noxplayer and Andy Android Emulator. So, we are going to talk about how to use them to emulate Instagram and Snapchat apps on Windows PC.

1] Using Instagram or Snapchat via Bluestacks

In order to use Snapchat on your Windows 11/10 computer more effectively, we suggest downloading & installing Bluestacks. For your information, BlueStacks X is their online app that lets you play Android games in the cloud without having to install anything on your PC.

Here are the steps in a nutshell:

First of all, download Bluestacks and install the 254 MB executable file.

Set up all the account information like linking to Google Account and set up payments if you want to, else skip.

Now, use the search bar to look up Snapchat or Instagram according to what app you want to emulate.

Now when the app is installed, open it and log in with your credentials.

You are now good to use it!

Here are some of the screenshots from my hands-on time with Bluestacks:

2] Using Instagram or Snapchat via Andy Android Emulator

Once you have downloaded and installed Andy Android Emulator, set it up.

Now, go to Google Play Store and search for your desired app.

Download the app and install it which in this case would be Instagram or Snapchat.

You are all set!

Here are some on the screenshots of Andy from my hands-on time:

3] Using Instagram or Snapchat via Noxplayer

If you’re not interested in using Bluestacks, then we would like to recommend Noxplayer. Follow the instructions there and you will have no problems using Snapchat.

NoxPlayer is one such Android emulator which had been making breakthroughs, and to their latest announcement, Nox Player is offering an integrated Android 9 Emulator which will allow games like Genshin Impact and The Rising of the Shield Hero: Rerise to work. It is going to be an industry first, pushing it ahead of the competition.

Comparing Bluestacks & Andy emulators

Both the emulators are excellent to be used. Bluestacks is better for gaming while Andy supports every kind of app with a good performance. We found the usual Android launcher as a user interface that didn’t slow down our process of installing and using apps on Andy. While on Bluestacks, the custom UI kind of slowed us down but with a very little difference. Both the emulators can use your external PC hardware like Mics and Cameras to be used with the app which was a plus point for both of them. And both of them supported the working of Snapchat and Instagram flawlessly. We were able to use the stories features and other features that need geotagging capabilities with decent accuracy.

With these emulators, you can use any Android app on your PC even when their Windows 11/10 versions are not much updated.

How To Fix Lag On Pc Games On Windows 10/11

Frames Per Second (FPS) is a term all gamers are familiar with. It measures how smoothly your PC can run a game, with lower frame rates leading to choppy visuals and freezes.

A common complaint is to have games that once ran perfectly starting to lag on the same hardware. There are many reasons this may be happening on your PC, from an overheating processor to background processes hogging all the memory.

Table of Contents

Let’s look at some tweaks to fix stuttering on your PC and give you a smooth gaming experience.

1. Reduce CPU Temperature

Modern CPUs can function across a wide range of clock speeds. However, the exact frequency a processor uses depends on many factors, the most important of which is temperature.

As the CPU gets hotter, it starts throttling its performance, reducing the power intake and the heat produced. While this does save the processor from long-term hardware damage, it also slows down processing and can create stuttering while gaming.

What to do if overheating does turn out to be the issue? That depends on the kind of system you are using. For desktop computers, applying new thermal paste and getting a better cooling fan is usually the cure.

On the other hand, laptops usually start heating due to accumulated dust and blocked airflows. Placing a laptop on a flat surface, for example, prevents the bottom fans from cooling properly, increasing the temperature. Consider using a cooling pad and cleaning the internals from time to time for better performance.

2. Decrease Graphics Settings

The simplest answer is often the correct one – your PC is not powerful enough to handle the game at its highest settings. Almost every computer with a modern graphics card can run everything, of course, but its level of detail depends a lot on its specs.

The recommended settings chosen by the game itself are rarely optimized for performance. For example, if you face lag while playing a graphically demanding game, it might be good to take the game settings down a notch to make things easier for your hardware.

Specifically, you should look for CPU-intensive settings like simulated physics and background characters. Lowering these rarely has that big an impact on the visual quality but can massively improve performance.

3. Choose the Correct Power Plan

This one is more for laptops than desktop computers. By default, Windows 10 (and Windows 11) uses the Balanced power plan on a laptop to reduce power usage and increase battery life. And while that is great when using your PC for everyday tasks, gaming needs more juice than that.

The best approach is to use performance-focused power settings while gaming, which ensures that your hardware can get all the power it needs to work at its maximum. You can easily switch to a more power-efficient plan once you return to productivity tasks.

You can set an appropriate power mode by heading to Power Options in the Control Panel and setting your power plan to Best Performance.

4. Close Unnecessary Background Apps

For the most part, background processes do not take up much processing power or memory. This is because windows services are optimized to run as efficiently as possible and stay on the low until they are actually needed.

But the same may not be true for any third-party applications. For example, many people are in the habit of keeping their web browser running while they start playing a game. Do you know how much memory a modern browser like Google Chrome uses?

Lots. You can open Task Manager on your PC to check how much memory and CPU is being taken up by all the processes running on your computer. To ensure that your video game can get all the resources it needs, consider quitting any apps hogging up too much memory.

5. Keep Your System Updated

It is a common practice to turn off Windows Updates. Maybe you don’t like the constant installations or just don’t want to waste bandwidth or data. And usually that doesn’t seem to matter, as the PC runs fine.

But gaming is one of the most resource-intensive tasks your computer has to perform. And when it is missing crucial updates, many of its components end up running much below their capacity.

Be it the latest drivers or bug fixes, there is a lot of optimization included in every update. So, Microsoft recommends you stay on top of updates, especially if you like playing video games on your computer.

Apart from general OS updates, you should update your graphics card driver. To update your graphics card driver, head to the Device Manager and select Display Adapters.

6. Check the Internet Connection

Online gaming is all the rage these days. After all, it is far more fun competing against real people and playing with your friends than just grappling with the AI. But multiplayer gaming also requires a good internet connection to function smoothly.

Latency requirements differ from game to game, with shooters being the most demanding. And any fluctuations in internet connectivity will translate to gameplay lags when playing online.

So if you are facing stuttering and delays while playing an online multiplayer game like Valorant or Call of Duty, take a look at your internet connection first. Whether it is a malfunctioning router or incorrectly configured internet settings, your network connectivity can significantly impact gaming performance.

7. Scan Your PC for Viruses

Malicious programs are often designed to hog processing and memory, making it difficult for legitimate apps to function properly. Such processes usually resist being shut down by the Task Manager, preventing you from simply disabling them manually.

Your only recourse is to scan your PC with a good antivirus tool. Of course, your computer shouldn’t be vulnerable in the first place, so you should already have an antivirus app running on the computer. Even Microsoft Defender is pretty good at safeguarding your system from malicious attacks.

8. Upgrade to SSD

With all software fixes taken care of, it is now time to discuss hardware. The slightest change you can make to instantly reduce lag on your PC is to switch your hard disk to an SSD (Solid State Drive).

Video games have large amounts of data that they must constantly load into memory, from textures to 3D models. Using an SSD for your games ensures that the hard drive does not become a bottleneck holding your other components behind and ensures smooth load times.

9. Get More RAM

After the hard disk, it is time to consider the RAM. Now, more RAM capacity isn’t always better. After a certain point, the extra memory does nothing for system performance unless you are into memory-intensive tasks like digital painting or something.

Video games have precise memory requirements and can function well below that. Taking the needs of the operating system into consideration as well, you don’t need any more than 16 GB of RAM for smooth performance.

Memory speed is an essential factor, too, with newer generation RAM outperforming older sticks in their access speeds. Similarly, a dual-channel configuration of two 8 GB sticks is much better than a single 16 GB module.

10. Grab a New Graphics Card

Graphics cards are expensive. Thanks to the demand for GPUs by crypto miners, gamers find it costlier than ever to upgrade their graphics cards. This is why we put upgrading the GPU at the bottom of our list.

For the most part, having the latest NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon card isn’t necessary. You can run most games out there as long as you have a graphics card with its dedicated memory. Sure, you might need to take some settings down to play them smoothly, but that isn’t that big a tradeoff to make.

Upgrading your graphics card is only worth it if your GPU has gotten too old to run the latest games at their medium settings or if you want to play them with the highest visual detail possible.

What Is the Best Way to Fix Lag During Gaming in Windows 10/11?

Most common tasks do not put much strain on a computer. For example, browsing the internet, typing up a lengthy document, and listening to music are unlikely to take up more than a fraction of your PC’s resources.

Gaming, however, is a different beast. Many computers slow down while playing highly demanding games, mainly relying only on Intel integrated graphics. And while you can fix many minor issues if you enable game mode or update drivers, some are not that easily solved.

How To Permanently Change Name On Zoom

Your name is the most well-known identifier of your Zoom account. So, it has to be the first thing for you to change when you’re handing the reins over to someone else or looking to improve privacy. Changing your name before joining a meeting is fine, but it isn’t a permanent solution. Thankfully, Zoom understands this concern and allows its users to change their names permanently, without a hitch. Below, we’ll check out how you could do so on all three clients.

How to change Zoom name permanently

Zoom offers a web client alongside dedicated applications for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. All of them allow you to change your Zoom information including name, phone number, name of the organization, and more.

At the top of the profile page, you’ll see two sections: full name — ‘First Name,’ ‘Last Name’ —  and ‘Display Name.’ They are usually one and the same unless you deliberately change the display name. To change your full or display name, hit the ‘Edit’ button on the right-hand side of the section.

Now, make the necessary changes to the sections.

And finally, hit ‘Save Changes.’

Then, hit ‘Edit My Profile.’

Irrespective of which path you choose, you’d be taken to the Zoom web portal — directly to the ‘Profile’ section. At the top of your screen, you’ll see your full name and ‘Display Name.’ Hit the ‘Edit’ button on the right-hand side of the section.

It is to be noted that it might take a while for the desktop client to reflect the changes.

On mobile, you won’t find the option to change your full name — first name and last name — alongside your Display Name. However, changing the ‘Display Name’ alone is enough as far as the mobile client is concerned. So, first, launch the Zoom mobile app and log in with your username and password. Now, tap on the ‘Settings’ tab at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

Then, tap on your name at the top of the screen.

On this screen, you’ll get access to all the necessary profile information Zoom has taken off of you. Next, tap on ‘Display Name,’ which denotes your public name on Zoom.

Change it to whatever name you wish and hit the ‘Ok’ button. Your display name would be changed.

Old name displaying even after changing? How to solve

Have followed every little step and still can’t get rid of your old name? There are a couple of things to consider before you connect to Zoom’s customer service.

Wait for a bit

Since Zoom updates its database quite frequently, your issue is likely to get resolved right after the next update cycle. So, before trying anything else, give it a couple of hours and wait for it to play out.

Restarting the Zoom client is a good way of forcing the system to check for updates. And no, we’re not talking about an OTA app update. When you restart, you’re basically forcing the Zoom application to look for changes and apply them immediately.

Simply closing the app and opening again could do the trick. However, we recommend you to log out of the client, close it, and then log back in with your username and password once you restart it.

Any new changes should get imported and be reflected.

Delete cookies

Your name, profile picture, and some other identifiers are stored in cookies for easier access. These cookies are refreshed periodically, of course, but not always immediately. So, chances are, the changes you make may not reflect right away.

To remedy that, you have to force Zoom to refresh the cookies. And the best way to that is by deleting the cookies at once. The method of deleting cookies changes isn’t constant, meaning that it depends primarily on the browser you’re using.

That’s it!
