It is often the case that long-relied upon apps lose their charm. Some are beaten by their competitors, while others cease to be free. The latter scenario happened with LastPass. Although it technically has a free pricing tier, it is crippled and severely limited. On the other hand, an equally competent password manager – Bitwarden – remains fully free with core features intact. If you are considering migrating from LastPass to Bitwarden, read on, as we show you how.

1. Exporting Existing Passwords in LastPass

Then, you will be prompted to input your Master Password to proceed.

After typing in your password, File Explorer’s window will automatically pop up, asking you where to save your “lastpass_export.csv” file. And that’s it! The first part of the migration process to Bitwarden is over. Just remember in which folder you exported your LastPass data file, so that you can retrieve it later.

If you are using a web browser that doesn’t open a window asking you where to save the .csv data file, the info for export will be displayed on the screen, as shown in the following image.

2. Importing the Exported LastPass File into Bitwarden

With the exporting part out of the way, it’s time to import the .csv data into Bitwarden. Assuming you already have it installed from the chrome web store, open it the say way you opened LastPass.

As you saved the exported data from LastPass directly, Bitwarden has made it convenient to have that option prepared and ready to go. Additionally, you can either select the saved Notepad’s .csv file or directly copy-paste the content of it into the window.

Now that you have a powerful and free password manager, don’t shy away from using complicated, unique, randomized, unguessable passwords containing a random mix of numbers, capitalized letters, and unique letters. You only need to memorize one password: the one to access Bitwarden.

An Extra Layer of Protection

As you can see, unless you have a Recovery Code safely stored somewhere, you can end up locked out of your account if you guess your two-factor authentication (2FA) incorrectly. Likewise, an intruder would suffer the same fate, just as intended!

How To Use Bitwarden To Send Encrypted Text Or Files

If you use a password managers to manage and save your passwords securely, then you might have heard about Bitwarden. It is an open-source password manager that is highly secure with a user-friendly interface. However, one feature that few know of is the ability to send encrypted text or files to others. This feature was recently introduced to Bitwarden in March 2023. Here, we show you how to use Bitwarden to send encrypted text or files.

What You Need to Know About Bitwarden Send

This feature of sending encrypted text or files is called Bitwarden Send. Using this feature, you can send a text and also share private codes, legal documents, or any file up to 100 MB in size. Moreover, Bitwarden Send can be used with anyone, including those who do not have Bitwarden accounts.

Some other benefits of Bitwarden Send are:

Your data is end-to-end AES-256 bit encrypted.

You can set expiration date, deletion date, number of people who can access, etc.

Every Bitwarden Send link is a randomly generated and secure link.

There is one limitation, though. Free Bitwarden users can only send text, while Premium users can send both text or files to anyone.

Use Bitwarden Send on the Web

If you use Bitwarden on the website, then you can make use of Bitwarden Send from any computer.

1. Head to the website and log in to your account.

3. Add a name to describe the send.

4. Select the file or text you wish to send to others. As a reminder, only Premium users can send File attachments.

5. In our case, for sending text, enter the information you wish to encrypt and send in the Text box.

6. You may opt to check the boxes for “When accessing the Send, hide the text by default” and “Copy the link to share this Send to my clipboard” upon save.

Deletion Date: once set, this will automatically delete the Send.

Expiration Date: set your Send to automatically expire after a certain time.

Maximum Access Count: set how many times a Send can be accessed.

Password: set a password to open a Send.

Notes: add private notes to your Send.

8. Once everything is set, you can now hit the Save button and share your Send to others using any medium you like, such as text message, email, or note.

Use Bitwarden Send on Desktop App

1. Download the Bitwarden desktop app and login. If you are already using its Desktop app, make sure you update it to the latest version.

4. On the right, you have to fill in information such as name, what type of Send you wish to send, the information you want to send. just like what you have seen for the Bitwarden website.

5. Hit the Send button when you are done with all the information.

Use Bitwarden Send on Mobile

1. Install the Bitwarden application on your smartphone and login.

2. Tap on the Send button at the bottom bar.

3. Tap the “+” sign at the bottom of the interface.

4. Fill in all the details such as name and type of Send. Also, check out the OPTIONS button to set deletion date, expiration date, etc.

5. Simply tap the three-dot icon beside the Save button at the top and select the “Copy Link” or “Share Link” option.

Is Lastpass Safe? Here’S What You Need To Know

Password managers like LastPass offer to maximize your online security while also making logging into your accounts more convenient. The idea is simple — secure your vault with a single master password and generate complex random passwords for all of your other accounts. As one of the most popular password managers out there, however, is LastPass safe from attacks and should you use it?

In this article, let’s explore how password managers like LastPass work, whether they’re secure, and what it might take for an attacker to get their hands on your online credentials.

Zero knowledge encryption means that LastPass can never access your saved passwords.

That said, LastPass has recently found itself embroiled in controversy over multiple confirmed hacks and breaches. Very few password managers have reported as many successful attacks to date. Luckily, the aforementioned zero-knowledge security model has prevented attackers from accessing passwords.

How does LastPass store your passwords?

LastPass saves your usernames and passwords in an encrypted database, which is also commonly referred to as a vault. According to the company’s security disclosure, vaults are secured using 256-bit AES encryption. The key used to decrypt a vault is based on the account’s master password.

Even with an extremely powerful computer, a hacker would need several years, bordering on centuries, to crack a single AES-256 key. While that could change in the future, AES encryption is used to secure everything from military secrets to bank accounts.

Needless to say, it’s extremely unlikely that an attacker will brute force their way into your LastPass vault.

Does LastPass have access to your master password?

No, LastPass does not have access to your master password. And since the company doesn’t store your master password, no employee or malicious actor can decrypt the contents of your vault either.

When you sign up for an account, the app generates an encrypted vault locally on your device. The vault is then uploaded to LastPass’ servers in this encrypted state, where it’s stored as a backup. Each time you log into your account on a new device, the app fetches this backup and asks you to input your master password to unlock it.

LastPass does not store a copy of your master password.

It’s extremely important that you use a secure master password. Moreover, you should never use your LastPass master password anywhere else. Doing so dramatically increases the chances of an attacker gaining access to your password from elsewhere. From there, they can simply use it to unlock your LastPass vault.

Can LastPass be hacked?

LastPass is a frequent target of hackers and malicious attackers. Moreover, the company has a poor track record of warding off such attacks. While user passwords haven’t been compromised to date, the frequency of successful breaches is not a good sign for a security-focused company.

LastPass’ encryption keeps passwords safe, but you should still consider alternative password managers.

In conclusion, LastPass has never been compromised in the traditional sense — user passwords remain encrypted and safe on the platform. However, if you care about all-round security, you should definitely look for an alternative. And regardless of which password manager you choose, always enable two-factor authentication for an additional layer of security.

Export A Kdenlive Project: Step

Kdenlive is an ultra-fast open-source video editing app replete with tools and features that can give even the best in the business a run for their money. If you’ve recently installed Kdenlive and have used it to create and edit a video, you might be wondering how to export your final edit. 

In Kdenlive, as in many other video editing software, the option to export a video is called “Render”. This can be accessed from the main toolbar itself. But there isn’t just a single way to export or render a video. In this guide, we take a look at how you can export your Kdenlive project on Windows 11 using a variety of custom settings. Let’s get started.

1. Export the full project from Kdenlive

Then select Render. 

Alternatively, you can simply press Ctrl+Enter as mentioned next to the option itself.

This will open the “Rendering” window. Here, under the “Render Project” tab, you can choose from the available format presets. 

You can simply use the default MP4 preset. Then make sure that Full project is selected.

Wait for the export to finish.

Once done, it will be available at the default save location. 

2. Export selected zone from Kdenlive

Sometimes, rather than exporting the whole project, you may want to export only a part of it. To do this, you’ll first have to mark the video in and out points.

Bring the timeline marker to where you want to start the video, and then press i.

This will mark the video in point. Then bring it to where you want to end the video, and the press o.

This will mark the video out point. You will see the selected zone appear in blue in the timestamp area. 

The selected zone can be moved around by dragging the center…

…or adjusted for length by dragging the edges. 

Change Render/Export options

There are a number of options available in the “Rendering” window that let you specify how exactly you want to export your video. Let’s take a look at a few important options that you should know about: 

Change export location and filename

The first field in the “Render Project” tab is where the file will be exported to. The default location is as follows: 


Change format preset

Kdenlive provides a few essential format presets for you to choose from. MP4-H264/AAC in the “Generic” category is the default and the most utilized format.

Export audio only

If you want to export just the audio, select the Audio only format category.

And then choose from the available audio formats – AC3, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, OGG, and WAV.

Export video as images sequence

Change quality

Then use the slider to adjust the quality. 

Export audio files separately

Kdenlive also lets you render all the audio tracks in your project separately, along with the video. This can come in handy when you have a number of audio files in your video and you want to have these files exported separately.

To do so, make sure you check the box before the Separate file for each audio track option.

Render video at a different resolution

You don’t only have to render your video with the project settings. Kdenlive allows you to rescale the video at a custom resolution. To do so, select Enabled next to “Rescale”. 

Then enter your custom resolution. 

Use Hardware Acceleration for faster rendering

Rendering videos can take up quite a chunk of memory and processing time. However, with hardware acceleration, you can cut down the render time by a good margin.

How To Get And Use Location Data In Your Android App


Before your app can receive any location data, you must request location permissions. There are two location permissions, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION. We use ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION to indicate that we want to receive as precise a location as possible. To request this permission, add the following to your app manifest:

GPS_PROVIDER: The most accurate method, which uses the built-in GPS receiver of the device. GPS is a system of satellites in orbit, that provides location information from almost anywhere on earth. It can sometimes take a while to get a GPS location fix (generally faster when the device is outdoors).

NETWORK_PROVIDER: This method determines a device’s location using data collected from the surrounding cell towers and WiFi access points. While it is not as accurate as the GPS method, it provides a quite adequate representation of the device’s location.

PASSIVE_PROVIDER: This provider is special, in that it indicates that your app doesn’t want to actually initiate a location fix, but uses the location updates received by other applications/services. In other words, the passive provider will use location data provided by either the GPS or NETWORK providers. You can find out what provider your passive provider actually used with the returned Location’s getProvider() method. This provides the greatest battery savings.

It is possible that the user has their device Location settings turned off. Before requesting location information, we should check that Location services are enabled. Polling for location data with the settings turned off will return null. To check if Location is enabled, we implement a method, called isLocationEnabled(), shown below:

We simply ask the LocationManager if either the GPS_PROVIDER or the NETWORK_PROVIDER is available. In the case where the user has Location turned off, we want to help them get to the Location screen as easily and quickly as possible to turn it on and get back into our app. To do this, we implement the showAlert() method.

The LocationListener is an interface for receiving Location updates from the LocationManager. It has four methods

onLocationChanged() – called whenever there is an update from the LocationManager.

onStatusChanged() – called when the provider status changes, for example it becomes available after a period of inactivity

onProviderDisabled() – called when the user disables the provider. You might want to alert the user in this case that your app functionality will be reduced

onProviderEnabled() – called when the user enables the provider

We implement only the onLocationChanged() method for this sample, but in a production app, you will most likely want to perform an appropriate action for each situation.

Integrating location tracking in your apps drains the battery.

Google recommends apps request updates every 5 minutes (5 * 60 * 1000 milliseconds). You might need faster updates if your app is in the foreground (fitness/distance tracker).

Users can have location turned off. You should have a plan for when location settings is turned off.
