Suggested March 2024 How To Hide User Accounts From Macos Login Screen
If you have a communal MacBook, your login screen may be looking a little cluttered. If you have a list of accounts but crave a more minimalist look, you can easily hide user accounts (usernames and user icons) from macOS’s login screen.Make your login screen a username-free zone
By default, the macOS login screen displays the username and user icon for every account on your Mac.
However, if you’re craving a more simplified look, then you can remove all of the usernames and icons from your login screen.
With this information banished from your login screen, macOS will display two blank text boxes where you can enter the username and password for the account that you want to access.
Removing the username and user icon can also give your Mac an extra layer of security, since anyone who’s attempting to break into your account will need to know your username rather than having this information handed to them as soon as they power up your Mac.
To remove all the usernames and icons from your login screen:
In the “Display login window as … ” section, select “Name and password.”
That’s it! The next time you want to log in to any account, you’ll need to enter that account’s password and username.Hide specific accounts from the login screen
Do you want to pick and choose which accounts appear on the login screen?
Perhaps you want to hide all of your guest accounts and place your personal account center stage? Or maybe you want to add some extra security to your admin account, by making sure it doesn’t appear on the login page?
You can bundle multiple macOS accounts into an “Other … ” overflow category.
If you want to access one of these hidden accounts, you’ll need to select “Other … ” and then enter the password and username for the account you’re trying to access.
To hide a specific user account from the login screen:
On the subsequent screen, make a note of the “Account name,” including any formatting, such as spaces and capital letters, as you’ll be needing this information shortly.
Run this command by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard.
Enter your admin password when prompted.
Rinse and repeat for every account you want to hide.
All of these accounts will no longer appear on your login screen, and you’ll only be able to access them by selecting “Other … ” and then typing the username and password associated with that account.Help! I’ve forgotten my username
When an account is hidden, you’ll need to know that account’s exact username in order to access it, but what happens if you forget or misplace a username?
If you still have access to at least one other account, then you can log into that account and retrieve a list of all the usernames that are registered with your Mac.
To retrieve this information, open the Terminal application and run the following command:
The Terminal will now display a list of all the accounts that are registered with your Mac.
Alternatively, if you can’t access any of your accounts, then you can retrieve a list of usernames by booting into macOS’s Single User Mode:
Power down your Mac.
Boot while holding the Command + S keys. Your Mac should now boot into Single User Mode, which is a black screen that accepts text commands, similar to a full-screen Terminal.
In Single User Mode, type the following command:
Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
After a few moments, Single User Mode will display some information about your Mac, including all of your user accounts. Take note of this information, including how the usernames are formatted.
Restart your Mac by running the following command:reboot
Your Mac will now restart, and after a few moments you should see the standard macOS login screen.

You're reading How To Hide User Accounts From Macos Login Screen
This tutorial will show you how to customize the Lock Screen and login screen wallpapers of your Mac in macOS Ventura, including steps to set different pictures as the desktop and Lock Screen backgrounds.
Your Mac has 6 screens
Buckle up because it’s about to become a bit confusing, however we will do our best to break it down and make it as clear as possible.1. Boot up screen
You see this screen after powering on your Mac. The wallpaper here cannot be changed. It shows the official macOS wallpaper as the background, and since my Mac is on macOS Ventura, it shows the orange-blue wallpaper. If your Mac has more than one user, you choose a user here and move to screen 2 below.2. Boot up login screen
This is what you see after you reboot your Mac and select a user (or, if your Mac has just one user, then you see it directly). This shows the official macOS wallpaper, and it cannot be changed until one user has logged in (point 6 below).3. Desktop
This is what you see when you’re inside your Mac. Of course, the wallpaper here can be changed to anything you like.4. Lock Screen 5. User switching screen 6. User login screen
You see this after logging in and out and selecting a user in the user-switching screen. In other words, when you select a user from the User switching screen (point 5 above), then you get to the login screen. The wallpaper here can be changed.
Change the Lock Screen background on Mac
Your Mac uses the same image you use as your desktop wallpaper for the Lock Screen background. Here’s how to personalize it:
2) Select Wallpapers.
3) From here:
To use a default Apple wallpaper, explore the options under Dynamic Desktop, Light & Dark Desktop, Desktop Pictures, and Colors.
4) Finally, select the wallpaper you like, and it will become the background for your Mac’s desktop and the Lock Screen.
Use different wallpapers for the Lock Screen and desktop
The steps below don’t work in the latest version of macOS Ventura for changing the Lock Screen (but they work to change the login screen – explained below). I tried them repeatedly on my M2 Mac mini with just one user account and my M1 MacBook Pro with three user accounts without any success.
However, if you are on an older version of macOS, you can use the steps below to set different backgrounds for your Mac’s Lock Screen and desktop:Step 1. Get the dimensions of the original Lock Screen wallpaper
3) Select the chúng tôi image, and press the Command + I keys to see its file information.
Note: If you can’t see the dimensions, go to Sharing & Permissions at the bottom of the Get Info screen and allow Read & Write for everyone. After that, close the Get Info screen and open it again.Step 2: Prepare your Lock Screen wallpaper
1) Make sure you have the image you want to use as your Lock Screen wallpaper in a Finder folder.
2) Adjust the image size using Preview or a site like chúng tôi in the dimensions you noted in step 4 above (in our case, 3840 x 2160).
4) Next, rename the image to lockscreen.Step 3: Replace the Lock Screen image with a custom one
2) Now, drag the lock screen image you created to this folder and hit Replace.Step 4: Restart your Mac
Note: If you change your desktop background, it will overwrite your custom Lock Screen wallpaper, and you will have to follow the above steps again!
Change the user login screen wallpaper
This works on all Macs, including ones running macOS Ventura or later.
Follow all four main steps above to change the Lock Screen background.
More Lock Screen customizations on Mac
Besides the wallpaper, you can also change the account profile picture and add a message on the Lock Screen to make your Mac truly yours.

Mac users can download full complete MacOS installers directly from the command line. This is an incredibly useful feature particularly if you want to build USB boot drive installers, you manage multiple Macs, or you simply want to have full access to a complete installer application of MacOS for any other purpose.
With this particular trick, you can download complete “Install MacOS” application packages directly from the Terminal application, and it works to get full installers of macOS Monterey, macOS Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, and High Sierra too.
This particular –fetch-full-installer flag for the command line softwareupdate tool is only available in MacOS Catalina 10.15 and later versions of MacOS, so if you’re trying to use this from Mojave or earlier it will not be available and you’d have to rely on other methods to download full macOS installers instead. How to Download Full MacOS Installer from Mac Command Line
Launch the Terminal application as usual, then use the following command syntax, replacing “**.**.*” with the installer version you wish to download:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version **.**.*
Hit return to start downloading the full installer application of that version of MacOS
Remember to replace **.**.* with the version you want to download, for example to download the full macOS Catalina installer the syntax would be:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.15
The downloaded installer application of MacOS will appear in the /Applications directory of MacOS, just as if you had downloaded the installer from the Mac App Store or Software Update control panel.Listing Available macOS Installers
From Terminal, issuing the following command will list out available macOS Installers for the Mac:
This may return something like:
* Title: macOS Big Sur, Version: 11.5.2, Size: 12440916552K
Note that if you’re running an M1 Mac and issuing this command, the available software installers reported will not include versions that do not support M1 hardware.Downloading Full macOS Big Sur 11.6,1 Installer Application
Want to download macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 as a complete installer application? Here would be the syntax for that:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.6.1Downloading Full MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 Installer Application
For another example, to download the full installer of MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 (the last version of Mojave, absent any later security updates) then the syntax would be as follows:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.14.6Downloading Full MacOS Catalina 10.15.3 Installer Application
To download the full installer of MacOS Catalina 10.15.3, then the syntax would be as follows:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.15.3Downloading Full MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Installer Application
To download the full installer of MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6, then the syntax would be as follows:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.13.6
Presumably this feature will evolve over time to include future macOS system software versions to download too.
The softwareupdate command line tool is quite powerful and we’ve discussed the utility various times before, as it can be used to do everything from hide MacOS Catalina updates, check for and install general MacOS and Mac OS X software updates from the command line, and more.
Note that you can also use third party tools to download full installer applications of MacOS, for example download a full Mojave installer with the dosdude tool, and High Sierra too. If you happen to be running macOS Mojave still, you can typically re-download MacOS Mojave directly from Mojave without any needed effort, however.
The Ease of Access button on the Windows 10 lock/login screen (that icon similar to a clock next to the power button) can be vital to people with hearing or sight difficulties.
If you’re not one of these people, however, you may not even know this button exists, so why not reappropriate it and turn it into something useful for yourself? We’ll show you how to make various apps available from the Windows login screen – whether it’s writing software, the command prompt (if you’re happy circumventing Windows Defender security), or Notepad so that you can quickly jot things down without having to log in.
Note: this will involve making a few tweaks to your registry. It’s not too complicated, but you should always make a backup of your registry before making any changes here.
With that in mind, let’s begin.
First, open the Registry Editor (Win + R then enter regedit).
In the bar at the top of the registry editor, enter the following directory:
Note that not every app will work using this trick. Microsoft Store apps are a bit of a nightmare because they don’t open via typical executable files, so things like Sticky Notes and OneNote are out of the picture.
It also used to be the case that you could open an elevated command prompt (c:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe) from the login screen which essentially lets you open most apps on your PC. Windows Defender is now wise to this, however, presenting it as a security. If you try to set the command prompt to open on the lock screen, you’ll be blocked from doing it. You can work around this by disabling Windows Defender, which we only recommend doing if you have another antivirus in place. Conclusion
You can now takes notes from your Windows lock screen or do a whole bunch of other things if you’re prepared to work around Windows Defender’s security warnings. Enjoy the newfound flexibility of the lock screen, but be careful not to mess around with that registry too much.

Parents can use this app to keep tabs on their kids’ social media activity on Tiktok and other social medial platforms. uMobix allows parents to see their child’s smartphone messages, call logs, and the websites they visit.Method 2: By Creating Fake Accounts
When you cannot connect with private users, you should try creating a fake account and following them. Creating fake accounts on TikTok is the easiest way to avoid detection and maintain anonymity on the network.
To do this, you must register a new username and password to create a new account on TikTok. You need to ensure that your username is unique so your request will be accepted immediately.
After that, using this fake account, you can send requests to any private account and wait for them to be approved. Remember, the private user can block you any time if they find out you are using a false account to follow them.Method 3: Searching on Google
You can use Google to access private TikTok accounts by simply searching for their username. This method works because Google indexes most video content. So, if you know the exact username of a person’s account, you can easily find their TikTok private account videos this way.
However, this method will become less effective as more videos become private and unsearchable on TikTok’s main website and other websites. You may try other methods if this one fails to locate their private TikTok account videos using Google search.Method 4: Find Their Profiles on Other Social Media Platforms
You can also view a private TikTok account by finding its profile on other social media platforms. Most TikTok users also have accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Many content creators frequently post their content to all their social media accounts to boost their channel and gain more followers. You might find details about someone’s private TikTok profile by following their other social media profiles.
You can use this information to access the private TikTok account’s profile page. You may be able to follow the private account if they don’t have an existing public page.Method 5: Fanclub Accounts
Fanclub accounts can also help you view private Tiktok account videos without following them. These accounts are created and maintained by fans who follow their favorite TikToker, or TikTok user. Fanclub accounts repost the celebrity’s content regularly to help them to gain more followers.Method 6: Follow Them with Friend’s Accounts
If you want to see someone’s private account but don’t know them, you could also try using a friend’s account. Your friend has to know the person with the private account and have access to the content. Proceed with caution because this approach is unsafe and violates TikTok’s terms and conditions.FAQ:
Below are the frequently asked questions regarding a private TikTok account.
Private TikTok accounts are only viewable by followers who have phone numbers listed on their accounts. Videos uploaded to a private account are only visible to users on the contact list. Further, the contact list receives notifications when new posts go up on the private account.
Many teenagers opt for a private user account to remain anonymous and out of the public eye. It is safer but still allows people to share content with friends.
Conversely, Public TikTok accounts are fully available to everyone on the platform. The account holder cannot turn off notifications, so everyone will see every post they share. All public account posts appear in community feeds, making it the best option for those hoping to go viral.
Here are the steps to know if your TikTok profile is private or not:
Step 1) Go to a TikTok account. If you can see the account’s videos, posts, and likes, it’s a public account.
Step 2) Private accounts feature no posts and typically have a message that says “this account is private.”
Step 3) A “no content” message on a profile does not always indicate that the account is private. It might also suggest that the user has not uploaded any content to their profile.
