Verizon is now starting off the Thanksgiving week action with its very own Black Friday shopping event. Amongst all of the trade-in credit, perks for switching, and other savings, the most notable aspect of the promotion surely has to be the free iPhone 12 mini 64GB. Available in all six colors, you’d normally pay $599 for the handset with today’s offer marking the best offer yet on the smartphone.
Delivering the most compact of Apple’s smartphone lineup, iPhone 12 mini arrives with much of the same nostalgic, squared-off form-factor as you’ll find on the other handsets, just with a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display. Available in several colors, each one is protected with a Ceramic Shield glass that rounds out the package alongside an A14 Bionic chip, Face ID, and 2-sensor camera array. AT&T is also getting in on the Black Friday savings, delivering a series of discounts across the latest iPhone 13 models and more. Most notably, AT&T is offering Apple’s new iPhone 13 series handsets for free with select trade-in. While we saw some aggressive offers back at launch, this is the best pricing yet across the lineup and amounts to an additional $100 or more in savings.
Marking the first time that we’ve seen the entire iPhone 13 lineup on sale like this at the same time, today’s sale makes for the best chance yet to score the latest from Apple. While screen size and camera differ across the collection, all of the recent releases arrive powered by the new A15 Bionic chip as well as squared-off designs packing Super Retina XDR displays. There’s also an upgraded camera experience with its new Cinematic mode and improved sensors, too.Score Apple’s latest smartphones by going the pre-paid route
Those who would rather sidestep the carrier altogether can also save on the latest iPhones by going the pre-paid route. Right now, Visible Wireless is offering a Black Friday promotion that covers all of Apple’s new iPhone 13 series handsets. Bundling in up to $200 gift cards with the pre-paid smartphones, you’re also getting a pair of AirPods Pro thrown in to increase the total value up to $449.
Apple’s just-released iPhone 13 series launched earlier this fall with the new A15 Bionic chip under the hood on top of improved battery life. We’ve all had that moment of spotting something we love and taking a picture in hopes of researching it later, yet identifying the item can be an exasperating task.
Aside from many great features, your iPhone or iPad can also do a reverse image search and help you identify almost everything on your device and even in the world around you. Read more to learn how to use Visual Look Up to identify objects on iPhone or iPadWhat is Visual Look Up?
Visual Look Up is an iOS visual search engine that lets you identify and learn about objects found in your Photos app. It applies on-device machine learning to detect photos on Photos and other built-in apps like Safari, Messages, and Mail.
It can detect the following:
It can also show you information related to the photo, including:
Similar web images
Maps, if you’re looking for a landmark
Siri-suggested sites related to the photo
Siri knowledge or snippets of good-to-know information about the photo
Which iPhone and iPad models support Visual Look Up?
For starters, your device should be running on iOS 15 or later, and have an A12 Bionic chip or later for Visual Look Up to work. That said, you can only use the feature if you have the following models:
iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max
iPhone 11 series
iPhone 12 series
iPhone 13 series
iPhone 14 series
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) or later
iPad Pro 11-inch (all models)
iPad Air (3rd generation) or later
iPad (8th generation) or later
iPad mini (5th generation) or later
Language and region availability
Aside from the model and iOS, it is also essential to check if Visual Look Up is available in your region and language. Visual Look Up is only compatible with the following languages and regions:
English (Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States)
Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States)
How to use Visual Look Up to identify objects on iPhone and iPad
Using Visual Look-Up is pretty straightforward. Here’s a look at how you can use the feature on various native apps.
In Photos app
Just go to Photos, select a picture, and do the following:
Open a photo in full-screen mode and look for the Visual Look Up icon, which looks like the Info icon but with sparkles. If you see this icon, it means that Visual Look Up information is available for the photo.
Swipe up or tap the Visual Look Up icon. Once you do this, an icon will appear on the photo. The icon you’ll see depends on the picture. For example, you’ll see a leaf icon if your device recognizes a plant image and a paw print icon if it detects an animal.
Once you have read the details, tap X to close the pop-up.
In Safari and Mail app
Aside from Photos, you can also use Visual Look Up to learn more about the images you see on Safari. Just long-press the image, wait for a contextual menu to appear, and tap Look Up. The same process goes for pictures in Mail.
Note: If you don’t see the Visual Look Up or Look Up option, your device can’t see any recognizable object in the image.
You can also use this feature for detecting recognizable objects from the photos other people send you through the Message app. To use it:
Select an image and enter full-screen mode.
Aside from Visual Look Up, another great feature that lets you identify objects using your iPhone’s camera is the Live Text feature.
Best object identifier apps for iPhone or iPad in 2023
If Visual Look Up isn’t working well, you may want to try other object recognition apps available for your iPhone or iPad. Here are some that you may want to try:
1. Google Lens
Google Lens used to be exclusively for Android users in the same way that Visual Look Up is exclusively for Apple users. Thankfully, Google opened this feature to all. However, while Android users can enjoy the standalone Google Lens app, iPhone and iPad users can only access Google Lens via the Google Photos or Google app.
You can do many things with the Google Lens on your iPhone or iPad, other than detect images for a reverse visual search. You can also translate, copy text, and even finish your homework via Google Lens!
2. Amazon Shopping
If you’re searching for products, you can use Amazon Shopping to detect everyday items that their retailers may have. Just take a photo with Amazon’s search camera or upload an image directly from your Photos app.
CamFind is a powerful app that lets you get internet search results, related images, and videos, price comparisons (if you’re searching for a product), and more all in the app. One great feature that sets it apart is how it lets you upload a QR or Barcode scanner of an item to make searching easier.
We all know that Pinterest is an excellent platform for finding ideas and inspiration. With their Visual Search tool, you can search in images instead of just keywords. However, as a network known for designs, artworks, crafts, and similar categories, search results will also be limited to these categories.
Aside from being a social media app, Snapchat can also identify everyday objects and items. Snapchat uses AR technology to scan any object in your environment and provide you with internet search results based on it.
6. Reverse Image Search
Similar to other image recognition apps, the Reverse Image Search app lets you upload images directly from your camera roll or use the camera option to take a snapshot of a physical photo or an object around you.
The app uses Bing, Yandex, and Google results to provide you with a list of web addresses related to the image. Aside from the search engines, the app also scours purchase options and popular social networking sites like Facebook and Instagram for more comprehensive search results.
Visual Look Up is a valuable feature that Apple users can enjoy to look for objects saved in their camera roll and can be handy if you need to find an answer quickly.
But as with any machine learning feature, it may still have its limitations until the software and algorithms are improved. If you’re looking for other alternatives, many apps are available in the App Store, including Google Lens, Amazon Shopping, and CamFind.
Let us know what apps you use for visual searches! We’d love to hear about it. Happy searching!

Updated August 3, 2023 to reflect Android N (7.1.2) and iOS X 10 (10.3.3).
Read on for four ways to save a webpage for later using Android or iOS, starting with…Add a webpage to your Reading List (iOS only)
iOS’s Reading List feature can take a functional snapshot of any webpage, then save it to your handset’s local storage for offline reading.
The beauty of iOS’s Reading List feature is that it can take a functional snapshot of any webpage, save it to your handset’s local storage for offline reading, and sync it with all your other iCloud-connected devices.
To save a webpage to your Reading List, just open the page in Safari, tap the Action button (the square button with the arrow) at the bottom of the screen, then tap Add to Reading List.
To open your Reading List, tap the Bookmarks button (the button that looks like an open book), then tap the Reading List tab (it’s the icon that looks like a pair of reading glasses).Download a webpage in Chrome (Android only)
If you’re using Chrome for Android, good news: There’s an easy way to download webpages for offline reading.
Ben Patterson / IDG
Just tap the download icon (the one that looks like a down arrow) to save a webpage in Chrome for Android.
To save a webpage in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu button in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap the Download icon (the one that looks like a down arrow).Save a webpage as a PDF (Android and iOS)
You can create a PDF version of any webpage on your Android or iOS device, but the methods of doing so are somewhat different.
Want to save a webpage to your Android device? One way is to “print” it to a PDF file, then save it to either Google Drive or directly to your handset.
Once Android has finished creating a preview of the page you want to save, tap the Save to drop-down menu at the top of the page. Select Save to Google Drive to upload a PDF of the page to your Drive account (make sure you pick the right one if you’re signed in to multiple Google accounts), or tap Save as PDF to save the file to your handset’s local storage.
There’s no “Save as PDF” option under iOS’s Print menu, but there are some PDF-friendly apps with a “Save PDF” feature under the Action button.
You can find the “Save PDF to Books” option under the Action button in iOS.
Go ahead and open a webpage in Safari, tap the Action button (again, it’s the square button with the upward arrow), then tap a Save PDF button in the top row (at the very least, there should be a Save PDF to iBooks button).
If you’re a Dropbox user, the Save to Dropbox option under the iOS Action button will save webpages as PDFs to your Dropbox account.Send the text of an article in an email (iOS only)
One arduous way of doing that would be to select all the text in the webpage and paste it into an email. If you’re an iOS user, though, there’s an easier way.
You can send the entire text of a web article to a friend, with a little help from Safari’s “Reader View” feature.
Open the article you want to share in Safari, then tap the Reader View button. (It’s the three-line button on the right side of the address bar, at the top of the screen. Don’t see the address bar? Try tugging down on the page until it appears.)
Tap the Action button (the square button with the arrow at the bottom of the screen), then tap Mail.Save the “decluttered” version of a webpage (Android and iOS)
Use an offline reader app like Pocket (pictured) to save the “decluttered” version of a webpage.
A better way to archive the text of a web article is by using a dedicated offline reader app, which saves stripped-down web articles for later.
Among the top offline reader apps are Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability, each of which comes in both Android and iOS flavors.
Best of all, articles you save using an offline reader app will stay saved, even if the original webpage is altered or taken down.
