In this tutorial, we will look at how you can create a batch file on Windows 11/10 and use it to move files.

Create and Use a Batch File to Move Multiple Files in Windows 11/10

A Batch file is a script file that helps in automating periodic tasks with the help of commands. Let us now look at the steps you need to follow to create a batch file.

How to create a Batch file on Windows 11/10

There are no restrictions in terms of the destination directory or folder to keep your Batch file in. Simply open File Explorer, visit the desired location and proceed with the steps of creating the file.

Here, select to create a ‘.txt’ document

Rename this document to a name of your choice and change its file extension from .txt to .bat

Ignore the ‘this file may become unusable’ prompt and proceed with the process

You’ll now notice a new .bat file in the directory with a distinctive file icon. Let us now see how such a Batch file can be used to move one or more files from a folder from one place to another.

How to create folders using a Batch file

The Batch file you’ve just created can be used to create folders linked with this Batch file using a few simple lines of code. The good thing is that any folders you may create this way will move to the location that the original Batch file moves. Here’s what you need to do for this:

Open Notepad as administrator and open the Batch file you’ve just created

Paste the following lines of code:

@echo off md FolderName1 FolderName2 “Folder Name3"

The above lines of code will help you create 3 folders namely; FolderName1, FolderName2, and Folder Name 3. If you wish for your folder’s name to have more than one word in it, you have to specify it by quoting the entire name as done above

Now, save this file in the original .bat file extension and close Notepad

Now, revisit the .bat file in its original location and double-tap on it to make the recently made changes take effect. Upon doing so, you’ll realize that Windows will create 3 folders by the names you’ve just provided. The code above can be modified to create subfolders in these new folders. E.g., you can create a subfolder ‘materials’ in FolderName2 by entering the following command:

md FolderName1 FolderName2/Materials “Folder Name3"

This could help you further bifurcate and better manage your files.

How to Move Multiple Files at once using a Batch file

Open the File Explorer and visit the newly created folders, the ones between which we will be moving files

Here, get the location of both the Source folder and the destination folder

Open Notepad and select ‘Run as an administrator to create a new .bat file

Here, use the ‘move’ command and post the following code:

move Source-Folder-Path*.* Destination-Folder-Path

In our case, our code will look like this:

@echo off move C:UserslenovoDesktop"sample folder"FolderName1*.* C:UserslenovoDesktop"sample folder"FolderName2

The ‘*.*’ here acts as a delimiter of sorts, which is used to let the program know that you want to move all the files from the source folder to the destination folder. Save this program document as a ‘.bat’ file, preferably in the same location as the original bundle of files and folders (for convenience).

Now, to execute this program, double-tap on the new command’s Batch file and wait for a while. You’ll find your Windows Explorer to refresh once, after which, you can check that the files, in this case, have moved from ‘FolderName1’ to ‘FolderName2,’ as evidenced by the picture below:

As you can see, all the PDF files were moved from the original folder to a new one in one go. This code can further be modified to include and move only a select few files from a folder. You can modify it further to only include files that have a particular file extension, like ‘.png’, ‘.jpeg’, etc.

In all the steps we followed above, we prefixed our executed codes with the keyword ‘@echo off’ which allowed you to bypass opening the command prompt for the Batch file to work, although intrinsically, a Batch file works via a command prompt only. Doing so is just time-effective and less overwhelming.

Are you having a hard time tracking iframes from third parties on your website?

In this post, I’ll go over how to track conversions through iframes with the help of our favorite tool: Google Tag Manager.

What are Iframes?

Have you ever used PayPal to charge clients on your website? Or added a Facebook share button to your blog post?

These are good examples of iframes you might be using already!

The iframe is a secure way for users to interact with third-party websites without leaving your website.

How does this work?

The iframe HTML includes the source website and the dimensions of the iframe, plus any additional style or functionality code.

For example, an iframe could be written like this:

The Problem with Tracking Iframes

The iframe contains another website, so unless you are the owner of the website in your iframe, you won’t be able to do any tracking at all. Sad times.

If you want to track an iframe, make sure that you will have developer access to the website inside your iframe. If you already have Google Tag Manager installed, then even better.

🚨 Note: To reiterate, you need developer access to the iframe in question. This means the source website’s code, not the iframe HTML on your website. 80% of the cases I see where people are struggling with tracking iframes are simply not possible. Without access to the iframe in question, you cannot install any tracking code.

Inspecting Iframes for Tracking

Not sure if your page element is an iframe? You can do a simple check on the frontend of your website.

How to Push Data From Your Iframe to Your Parent Frame

You can track iframe interactions by sending a Javascript call called postMessage from the iframe to the parent frame. The parent frame listens to the call with Google Tag Manager, then forwards it to your marketing tools.

If that sounds complicated, I promise it’s not. Here’s an overview of how that works in more detail.

Install GTM on Your Child Iframe 

Even if you already have GTM installed on the website that contains the iframe, it won’t be able to pick up any user interactions that occur inside the iframe.

The important part here is that you should create a new Google Tag Manager account to associate with your child frame.

This doesn’t mean you need a separate Google login, but you’ll want a GTM account and container that are specific to your child frame. Your parent frame should have its own account and container.

Inspect Your Iframe Elements

Next, you’ll have to decide which user actions you want to track inside your iframe.

Once you’ve found an identifier that will help you track this element (without tracking incorrect elements), copy it. We’ll need it in order to build a Tag trigger. 

Create a Trigger for Your Iframe Element

In your child frame’s GTM account, you’ll build a new trigger using the element identifier you just found.

The type of trigger you use will depend on what you want to track. Select the trigger type that best fits your iframe element.

There are other type-specific options that you’ll have to decide on, but the important part here is to make sure that the trigger fires when your variable matches the element identifier.

In this example, the iframe contains a form, so we want the trigger to fire when the following condition is true: Form ID equals ninja_forms_form_1.

This ensures that the trigger will always fire when a user makes the action you want to track, but it doesn’t fire when the user interacts with the iframe in other ways.

Send Child Frame Data to Parent Frame 

The next step is to connect this trigger to a Tag.

However, we don’t want to send it directly to Google Analytics or other tools.

Why? Because the interaction would be tracked as coming from the frame’s source website—not from our webpage with the iframe.

If you use your new trigger to send data directly to your tracking tool, you won’t be able to differentiate users who converted on embedded iframe versus the original source website.

This is important for tracking a user’s path to converting. For marketing purposes, it should matter to you where your user was in your funnel when they converted.

And that’s why we’re going to send the data to our parent frame with the help of Google Tag Manager. 

In order to do this, we need a special sender Tag for our postMessage that forwards tracking data to the parent frame.

This requires a custom HTML tag. I’ve built one that you can download and import straight into your GTM container here.

Basically, this script consists of a Data Layer push for any key value pairs that you want to track. If you’re comfortable with HTML, you can customize this as much as you like.

Build a Listener in the Parent GTM Account 

So now our iframe will send tracking data to the parent frame, but that data is totally lost into the internet ether if the parent frame doesn’t know to listen for that data.

The idea here is that a Tag on your parent frame (host website) fires a Tag in conjunction with the iframe’s Tag.

The parent frame’s Tag basically just listens for the iframe’s Tag, extracts the information in the postMessage, and pushes that information it to the Data Layer. 

Again, this requires some custom HTML, which I have a template for here (same link as above).

As for the trigger, you’ll typically choose a Page View just for the page with this iframe. It’s less script for irrelevant pages to load, and it cleans up your tracking data.

Send Iframe Data to Google Analytics 

Now that everything you want to track is available in the Data Layer of your parent frame, you can send your iframe data to tools like Google Analytics.

In the parent GTM container, you can create an event Tag that identifies the user action in the iframe using whatever parameters best suit your tracking setup. 

Make sure that any new variables that you create for your parameters match the variables in your Data Layer with correct dot notation.

You will also need a new custom event trigger that fires when the event name for your iframe element appears in the Data Layer.

This is how we can send data from an inner iframe to the parent frame, then send this data over to our marketing tools like Google Analytics.

Congrats! Once this is deployed, you should be able to successfully track conversions through iframes with Google Tag Manager. 

What Other Tracking Can You Do in Iframes?

The sky is really the limit in terms of what you can track in your iframe!

This post discusses setting up iframe tracking for a conversion, but the same principles apply for tracking any other user actions.

Now that you know how to set up iframe tracking, you can apply this technique to other trackables in your iframes.

Yes, even if you have GTM installed on the website containing the iframe, it won’t capture user interactions inside the iframe. You need to install GTM on the child frame and create a separate GTM account and container specific to the child iframe.

Once the data you want to track is available in the Data Layer of the parent frame, you can create an event tag in GTM that identifies the user action in the iframe. Configure the event tag with the appropriate parameters and variables matching those in the Data Layer. How To Package An Indesign File (Step

InDesign is an impressive page layout program, allowing designers to create anything from a simple digital brochure all the way to extensive and intricate collaborative print projects. 

But when it becomes time to finalize your project, you’ll find yourself with countless fonts, linked images, and graphics that must be carefully managed and collected to guarantee that your colleagues and support staff can view the working document properly.

That’s where packaging your InDesign file comes in! 

What Does It Mean to Package an InDesign File?

InDesign files are usually much more dynamic than other creative documents you might create in Photoshop or Illustrator, so they require special attention. 

While designing a book layout, the images, graphics, and even main copy are also being worked on by other teams of colleagues who specialize in those areas. 

To allow multiple teams to work simultaneously, it’s usually a good idea to create a link to an external file rather than embedding it directly within the InDesign document itself. 

For example, when the graphics team is refining the edits to their illustrations, they can update the linked image files, and the updates will be displayed in the InDesign document without the page layout team having to re-insert the updated files every time there is a change. 

Packaging an InDesign file copies all these externally linked images, graphics, and fonts into a single folder so your document can be easily shared without any display issues. 

Preparing to Package Your InDesign File 

If you’re a solo designer, starting with a consistent naming convention long before the packaging step is a good idea so that when your InDesign files are packaged together into a single folder, the files will be clearly organized. 

It doesn’t really matter what the pattern is, as long as you’re consistent. 

Of course, if you’re working in a more collaborative environment, it’s even more important to follow a consistent naming convention!

But if you want to really be sure that the packaging process will finish properly, you’ll need to ensure that all files and fonts are available. 

Because of the complex nature of InDesign documents and the potential display issues caused by missing links, Adobe has created a system known as Preflight that checks for missing linked files, fonts, overset text, and other potential display issues. 

Depending on your current workspace, you may also be able to view the Preflight preview in the document info bar at the bottom of the main document window. 

How to Package an InDesign File

Once you’ve reviewed your Preflight warnings, it’s time to package your InDesign file! 

Step 1: Open the File menu and select Package down near the bottom of the menu. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Command + Option + Shift + P (use Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P if you’re on a PC).

InDesign will open the Package dialog, which contains several information tabs about your file. The summary is displayed by default, and as long as you corrected all your errors using Preflight, there should be no surprises here. 

If you’re packaging the InDesign file for print, you can check the Create Printing Instructions box, which allows you to provide printing details and contact information in a plain text file. 

You can switch to any of the tabs to learn more about the related areas and, if necessary, find or replace missing fonts and update linked files to their latest versions. 

I like to handle all these corrections before the Package dialog step in case I need to review one of the affected layouts in more detail, but every designer has their own preferred workflow. 

Next, InDesign will open the Package Publication window. For most projects, the default options are acceptable. 

InDesign copies all fonts and linked images to the package folder updates the linked images within the main INDD document, generates an IDML (InDesign Markup Language) file, which is often used for cross-program compatibility, and finally creates a PDF file of your document using one of the available PDF export presets. 

Note: the window looks slightly different on a Windows PC, but the options are the same. 


For those of you with more specific questions about packaging files with InDesign, I’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions below. 

InDesign will package all visible links by default, but you can ensure that you package every single possible link within your file by making sure that both Copy Linked Graphics and Include Fonts and Links From Hidden and Non-Printing Content are selected during the packaging process. 

Can You Package Multiple InDesign Files at Once? 

Unfortunately, there is currently no official method for packaging multiple InDesign files at once. Some user-created scripts are available in the Adobe user forums, but they are not officially supported and may not work properly. 

How to Email an InDesign Package?

Once you’ve packaged your InDesign file, you can convert the folder into a single compressed file that you can send via email. The instructions are slightly different on macOS and Windows, but the general idea is the same.

If you’re away from home with a single port power bank, but two devices that need to be charged, and there’s no power outlet in sight, what do you do?

You can wait for one device to charge a bit before switching to the other, or you can use a dual USB power bank like the one Sabrent offers, which we’ll take a closer look at below.

About Sabrent’s 6100mAh Power Bank

There are two USB ports on the power bank: one labeled “smartphone” and the other labeled “iPad.” The “smartphone” port is a 1000mAh USB port that can be used for Android and iOS phones. The “iPad” port is a 2100mAh USB port that can be used for Android and iOS tablets. There is one last input port on the side of the charger.

With four blue LEDs on top of the charger, you’ll always know the status of the 6100mAh battery. When all four LEDs are illuminated, 76% – 100% of the battery remains. When three LEDs are illuminated, 51% – 75% of the battery remains. When two LEDs are illuminated, 26% – 50% of the battery remains. Finally, when one LED is illuminated, 1% – 25% of the battery remains.

These LEDs really come in handy, both when charging your devices (letting you know how much of the battery is left) and when charging the power bank (letting you know how much longer it needs to be charged).

Speaking of charging the power bank, I initially tried charging it via a USB hub on my computer, but the power bank never charged past two LEDs – even after being connected for over 24 hours. So, it definitely needs a lot of power to charge. I find that using a USB AC adapter that connects to an outlet works best; using this method, the power bank is completely charged within five to six hours.

There’s also a power button in the center of the LEDs. It’s hard to see with the naked eye (not like what’s shown in the picture below) – I can only see it when holding the power bank at a certain angle. When you connect the power bank to your devices it won’t begin charging until you press the power button. There’s no need to worry about shutting off the charger, though, because it automatically shuts off once charging is done.

Dual USB Power Bank Performance

I’m sure that results will differ depending on the device used with the charger. For testing purposes I used a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (2014 edition). For both tests, I made sure the power bank was fully charged before using.

The first time, I let my tablet go down to 19%. I then powered off my tablet and connected the power bank. I left it alone until the power bank died, which was around three hours later. When I turned my tablet back on, it was on 98%. So, it added almost 80% of charge to my battery.

The second time, I let my tablet go down to 9%. I then connected the power bank and left my tablet on. I decided to use it for an hour or so while connected. This time, the power bank died after about 2 1/2 hours, leaving my battery at 83%. So with this test, it added almost 75% to my battery and in less time and while using my tablet for almost half of that time.

While I did not test it out on a smartphone, I would like to reference one Amazon reviewer’s personal results. The reviewer stated that the Sabrent power bank did a great job of charging their iPhone and was actually able to charge it fully three times before dying. That’s really impressive. However, they found that it wasn’t so great when it came to their iPad.

Final Thoughts
