Suggested December 2023 How To Use The Xbox Live App For Windows Pc

The Xbox App for Windows 11/10 is looking like a true winner, something worthy of regular use by gamers all around the world. The app brings to the table many of the features that make Xbox Live unique and fun to use. However, it doesn’t come with the biggest con Xbox Live faces, and that’s the $60 price tag to play online.

Xbox Live app for Windows PC How does the Xbox One app stack up?

The most important thing about the app is the fact that users can stream Xbox One games to their PC. Just connect the console to the PC through the app, and watch the magic as any game being played on the console, begin to be streamed to the PC.

This is great for when you might want to go outside with your laptop for a while, or if your living room television is shared with others in the house.

The problem here is that it is not yet possible to stream games outside of your local network. It means that going to your friend’s house a few blocks down the road in hopes of showing off the new streaming trick, will not work.

When it comes down to how the app performs overall, we can’t complain. Though we should point out that a slow computer might have difficulties, so bear that in mind.

How to use the Xbox app

The Xbox app for Windows 10 is different from the one for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It is more gaming focused now, in fact, everything about it is gaming focused. On the left-hand side, users should see a pain of icons with words beside them. They allow the app to do all the great things it does.

For example, the Home button brings the user to the home screen of the app. Here gamers can view all the activities from anyone on their friends list. If a person earns an Achievement, Gamerscore, or just happened to share a video, it will all show up here.

The My Games section shows the games in the user’s library. It can be games from the Windows Store or more traditional games from Steam or other platforms.

Another thing we like is Game DVR. With this, users can record the best scenes in their video game and share them with their friends. The big upside to this feature and the one on the Xbox One is the fact that gamers can record for longer periods.

Users can even use Game DVR to view videos from others in the community. Right now we are watching a few guys performing neat tricks with a bike in Grand Theft Auto 6.

On the right side of the app, we get to see the pane where all folks on your friends list will show up. If they are offline, you will know, if they are online, you will know.

There’s a settings option on the left pane. From there, users can decide if they want the Xbox Live app to have a Live tile or a static one. You can also choose to be notified when your favorite friends start a Twitch broadcast, or how Game DVR works in the background.

Not every PC is capable of recording games in the background, so keep that in mind.

Overall, the Xbox Live app is great, and we hope to see Microsoft add more features in the future.

How To Connect Your Xbox To Your Windows Pc

As a Windows-based device, the Xbox has a lot in common with a typical Windows PC. The Xbox is one of the best consoles for interacting with a Windows PC, with the ability to stream games, share media content, and more. If you want a seamless multimedia experience, combining the Xbox and a Windows PC makes sense.

As long as you have the correct network setup, it’s an easy process to connect an Xbox to a PC. You’ll need both devices on the same network and, if you want to stream content, an ethernet connection is preferred. If you want to know how to connect your Xbox to a Windows PC, here’s what you’ll need to do.

Connecting an Xbox to a Windows PC Using the Xbox App

The Xbox Console Companion app gives you full control of your Xbox One console from your Windows PC. It allows you to start up or shut down your Xbox, stream Xbox games to your PC over your local network connection, install or remove games, as well as chat with your Xbox gaming friends.

The Xbox Console Companion app is installed on all Windows PCs, as part of Microsoft’s plan to further integrate the two services. If you have a local user account, you’ll need to sign in using your Microsoft account to use the app—existing Microsoft account users should find the app signs them in automatically.

While the Xbox app is linked to your Microsoft account, it won’t automatically connect to your Xbox—you’ll need to do this manually. To do this, press the Connection icon in the left-hand menu of the Xbox app on your PC.

Windows will search for your Xbox One console automatically. If it detects it, press the Connect button. If you need to do this manually, type the IP address for your Xbox in the box provided, then press Connect to connect to it.

Once the Xbox is added, you should see it listed in your Connections tab. From here, you can power the Xbox on or off, view the currently open game or app, test the streaming quality, or stream the Xbox to your PC by pressing Stream.

Streaming Xbox Games to a Windows PC

You can stream Xbox games to your PC from the Connections tab in the Xbox Console Companion app.

In the Connections tab, press the Stream button to begin streaming the Xbox One console to your PC.

Once you’ve established the stream, you’ll need to decide if you want to connect your Xbox One controller to your PC or continue to operate it from your Xbox. If your Xbox is a bit further away, you may wish to connect it to your PC. Once you’re ready to proceed, press Continue.

Using your Xbox controller, you can navigate your Xbox One menu as normal. Play a game by selecting it from the My games and apps menu.

Streaming Media Content to an Xbox Using Microsoft Movies & TV

In the Add a device menu, select your Xbox One console from the list once the scanning process has completed.

You can now stream content from the Microsoft Movies & TV media app. You’ll need the same app installed on both your Xbox and PC for this to work.

In the Connect menu, select your connected Xbox One console. This will open the Movies & TV app on your Xbox and stream the content from your PC for playback.

Streaming Media Content to an Xbox Using Kodi

If you’d prefer to use alternative media apps, then apps like Kodi can be installed on your Xbox. Kodi supports a full range of media playback options, including the ability to access network shares from a Windows PC or other network attached storage devices.

In the plugin options window, press Enable to enable the plugin.

In the Add file source window, press Browse.

In the Browse for new share window, select Windows network (SMB).

If you need to provide a username and password to connect, select Add network location instead. Select Windows network (SMB) from the Protocol drop-down menu, then select a location, username, and password using the options provided.

How To Use Live Tune

The fourth-generation Apple TV allows you to begin watching a live channel immediately, simply by asking Siri. Called Live Tune-In, this feature works with supported video-streaming apps that provide live TV functionality.

With it, you can quickly pop into a live news broadcast on CNN or a live game on ESPN without manually launching apps or navigating menus.

In other words, Live Tune-In makes your Apple TV behave more like a conventional TV. Telling Siri to go to a live channel couldn’t be easier, as this quick tutorial attests.

Live Tune-In system requirements

Live Tune-In requires the following:

4th generation Apple TV with Siri Remote or the free Apple TV Remote app

tvOS 9.2 or greater

US App Store account

Internet connection

Video-streaming apps that feature built-in support for Live Tune-In

In order to use Live Tune-In with a compatible live-streaming app, you must already be subscribed to the service in question. As you can see on the screenshot below, tvOS 9.2’s “What’s New” splash screen promoted Live Tune-In.

tvOS 9.2 was released in March 2023.

Live Tune-In is available in the United States only.

Using Live Tune-In in an unsupported country

Readers who don’t live in U.S. may be able to use Live Tune-In if they’re logged in to the tvOS App Store with a U.S. account and set regional settings on their Apple TV to “United States” and Siri settings to “English (United States”).

How does Live Tune-In work?

A tvOS app that offers 24/7 streams based on HTTP Live Streaming and FairPlay Streaming—regardless of whether they’re available for free to all users or with paid subscriptions—can optionally offer Live Tune-In functionality.

Assuming a developer has implemented support for Live Tune-In in their app, a user can invoke Siri and simply say aloud what channel they’d like to watch live.

How to use Live Tune-In

This is how you can jump straight into the live TV feeds of select apps.

1) Press and hold the Siri button on your Siri Remote or tap the Siri icon in the Apple TV Remote app on your iOS device, then say: “Watch [APP NAME] live”.

2) Let go of the button.

For example, if you have CBS app on your device you would simply say “Watch CBS live” to start watching their live TV programming, as shown below.

Or maybe you installed ESPN’s Apple TV app and wanted to jump straight to their live feed? In that case, you’d tell Siri that you wanted to “Watch ESPN live”.

To confirm that the video currently being watched is a live broadcast, swipe down on the Siri Remote’s Touch surface to reveal a menu at the top, then highlight the Info option.

You should see “Live” in the menu if the video is a live broadcast.

Notable apps that support Live Tune-In

As mentioned, video-streaming apps that contain live feeds don’t automatically gain Live Tune-In functionality: developers must specifically implement the feature.

At the time of this writing, the following apps supported Live Tune-In:

ABC News

CBS News

Cooking Channel

Disney Channel

Disney Jr

Disney XD

Food Network

Travel Channel

Apple maintains a regularly refreshed list of Live Tune-In-compatible apps for the fourth-generation Apple TV in a support document on its website.

Live streaming and Single Sign-On

Keep in mind that in most cases live-streaming of premium video content requires signing in with your cable or satellite credentials, with the exception of services that offer online-only subscriptions, such as HBO NOW.

Signing into multiple apps or authenticating by typing an alphanumeric code into a browser will soon become a thing of the past thanks to another Apple TV feature.

They’re calling it Single Sign-On and it’s coming later this year.

With it, you’ll manage access credentials for video-streaming apps in one central location to have tvOS automatically sign you into apps that support Single Sign-On.

The interface will display a list of Single Sign-On apps based on your saved credentials and the tvOS App Store will promote and highlight them as well. Single Sign-On will be coming to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in a future update, Apple has confirmed.

Have you used Live Tune-In yet?

If so, what did you think of it? I use it with CNN Go and CBS All Access on a daily basis and boy does a simple option like this make a difference: with Live Tune-In, the Apple TV feels more like a conventional TV more than it ever has in the past.

I’m also looking forward to Single Sign-On because typing my credentials into apps like HBO NOW and Netflix over and over again really annoys me.

3] Download & install Apex Legends on Windows PC

Apex Legends can be downloaded and played using Origin of Windows PCs.

Once downloaded, run the executable file to land on the following screen.

It will ask you to sign in to your Origin account/EA account. If you do not already have one, just use the Create An Account option to create one right then.

Once signed in, you will be prompted to choose the install location and other details which you need to set accordingly.

You need to remember that the installation location will need at least 22 Gigabytes of free hard drive space.

Along with that, you will also get options to enable the creation of the Start menu and Desktop shortcuts to get the game running more intuitively.

Depending on your Internet connection, it will then start downloading 13.26 GB to game data.

Finally, you can select Play to start the game.

It will then launch and start loading the game.

There you go!

4] Apex Legends gameplay

Playing the game is a bit addictive. The responsiveness and character-based features that you get with this game, makes it stand out from others.

A player will be able to level up with the XP that they earn by playing the matches. For each level up, they will be eligible to earn rewards like Apex Pack, Legend Tokens or even both. After level 100, additional tokens can be earned just by gained by just getting enough XP.

A new character can be unlocked when the player collects 12,000 Legend Tokens by playing standard matches. For now, only one map named ‘Kings Canyon’ is available but new maps might be coming in the future.

Also, cross-platform play functionality is not yet available, but you will be getting all the new features on every platform at almost the same time.

5] Apex Legends – Initial Impressions

After getting the game fully loaded, it was easy to get used to it because of the fact that a character is narrating the storyline. And talking about the graphics, it was decent, and the frame rate stayed around 30 FPS on my machine running a 2 Gigabytes dedicated NVIDIA 920 MX and with 8 Gigabytes of RAM. The processors was a 7th Generation Core i5 – 7200U.

However, when playing intense location where the rendering was instant and critical, I faced a few lags, but that should not be on higher end machines.

Other than that, I found the gameplay to be smooth, playable and enjoying.

This game deserves a thumbs up from me.

6] Apex Legends Availability

This game is available right now to be played in the following countries for a Windows PC-

Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Singapore, Taiwan, United States, South Africa, Thailand.

If you live in a region outside of something mentioned above, you might need to wait a little more.

What Is The Google App & How To Use It

The Google App can be confusing. You see it on your phone screen with just a big G that suggests “Google”. You may not even end up using it as you already use Chrome for all your web searches and site visits. You may be using Google Maps to go from one place to the next. And then there are other apps that help you with other tasks.

So, it’s natural to ask…

Table of Contents

What Is the Google App?

The Google app is the Google Search app.

But it also does a bit more than the standard Google Search Bar on your browser to help you discover the world around you. Think of it as a single window into the outside world. You can then customize it to discover information around your special interests and stay informed with personalized updates.

You can get the same results with any Google Search, but the Google app just makes it easier to stay in control of the glut out there.

The Google Search app can make your searches faster. So, let’s jump into the app and see what it can do.

Note: The Google Search app is slightly different in Android and iOS. For instance, the Android app displays all news items on Discover while iOS calls it Home. The screenshots included below are from iOS 13.

What Does the Google App Do?

Start with a bit of fun. Tap the Google logo on the home page. If there’s no special Google Doodle, the colorful dots do a short jig on the screen. Tap it again to check out all its dance moves.

Tap the weather icon (that displays today’s temperature) to see a forecast on the Google Search results page. The details pale in comparison to that of a weather app, but it’s sufficient to take in with a glance.

The default home screen gives you news stories, sports scores, and anything else that’s happening around the world right now. Sign into the app with your Google account to customize the information you want to see.

The main part of the app is Google Search. Tap on it to start your search or select a search from the What’s Trending list below it.

The Google App home screen displays a feed of articles which it thinks you’ll be interested in. This data comes from your search history, location, and other data that Google has about you. You can turn off web and app activity monitoring or delete it from the app itself by visiting the Activity Controls page.

What Is Collections on the Google App?

Add multiple collections and access them from the Collections screen. Edit or delete them anytime. You can also share your collections with others via the app.

Tap the Collection you want to share. Configure the share settings. As you can see in the screenshot below, you have two options.

Share it with a view-only link.

Share it with a Contributor link so others can add to the collection.

You can use Collections for research and then use the Contributor link to seek the help from others, all from your phone. It can work like a pinboard for gathering more information before a trip or for daily stuff like recipe collections.

7 Google App Tips You Should Know About

2. Hide Stories With a Tap: Don’t want to follow a certain news item on the Home screen? Select the three-dots on the bottom of the card and tap Hide this story. This is one way to improve the topics you want to follow here.

3. Use 3D Touch For Quick Searches: Keep your finger on the Google icon for just a bit longer and the Quick Search menu opens. The 3D Touch feature is a wonderful way to see what’s trending and use the different search modes Google has.

4. Read Aloud To Multitask: Tap the Read Aloud button on top to have a male or female voice narrate the article to you while you do something else. You can even add multiple articles to the queue.

5. Add Siri Shortcuts to Google: You can make both Siri and Google Search play along by going to the Settings and configuring a few favorite shortcuts. Siri Shortcuts must first be configured with the Shortcuts app before the key phrases trigger the desired actions.

7. Search With Google Lens: You don’t need separate OCR tools as Google Lens is the visual search engine for your phone. Translate text, scan stuff you want to buy online, explore landmarks, identify plants and animals, add events to your calendar from a poster, and more.

You can even do a reverse Google Image Search with any image in your iPhone’s Photos. Tap on the tiny image icon on the top right and select an image from your iPhone’s gallery.

Do I Need the Google App?

Most of all, you can stay on top of topics that interest you. In the end, you just might like playing with the Google Doodle or using 3D Touch on Google Widget as a shortcut to your searches on the iPhone. Tell us about it. Do you use it as much as you should?
