Lg G4 Update: Build On Vs9862Aa Brings March Security Patch

Update [April 19, 2023]: The G4 is still waiting for the latest security update, with LG now rolling out the March security patch. The update arrives as build VS9862AA and is being distributed as FOTA. Considering that the update weighs in at around 300MB, it should bring considerable performance improvements and fix a few major issues which lay pending from the previous build.

Update [April 12, 2023]: The LG G4 is receiving an OTA from US Cellular. The OTA update is identified as build US99125a. It should install the latest security patch, but we’re unable to confirm if it’s for the month of March or April. The Marshmallow update will also fix pending issues from bugs and provides system stability enhancements too.

Update [December 14, 2024]: The LG G4 users are AT&T in USA should soon see a new OTA update notification for the software version H81022C. The update installs the November security patch and comes in at 273MB. Check out System updates menu in Settings to force device to look for the update.

Update [October 18, 2024]: Latest Nougat release info points to mid-November release of the Android 7.0 update by LG, for the G5. Because G4 is next to G5 in line for the Nougat update, this is cool to know. Optus carrier in Australia shared the news earlier today, so this can be deemed as official, even though not directly from LG. if all goes well then, we could see LG come up with the G4 Android 7.0 update within a month or two of G5’s release, which brings us to mid-Janurary release for the G4.

Update [October 14, 2024]: Verizon has come up with a new software update for its LG G4, and it comes as version VS98627C. Even though the carrier didn’t say anything about security patch as part of the update we’d assume it does. But more importantly, the update brings few new features, like backup PIN option and a pop-up for USB charging.

The backup PIN option is used to access locked content, and while you can unlock the device with a pattern lock, now, the option to reset the pattern using Google account has been removed. Now, to access content in Gallery app and such, you can set and use the backup PIN, which adds as extra layer of security even after unlocking the device with pattern.

Next, when you connect the device to PC using USB cable, you will have the option to choose directly whether you want the connection to be kept in charging mode, or file transfer mode (among other options). This is handy, as earlier you had to tap and reach those settings.

LG surprised many when it released the Nougat update for G5 pretty much way earlier than expected, albeit some odd 2000 users in Korea, but it raised hopes of a quicker release. That means LG G4 users can hope for their Nougat update to come quite early too, but it’s not that simple actually.

Well, the G4 will definitely receive the Android Nougat treatment. After all, it was released only last year. Unlike LG G3 which released last to last year, G4 is a Nougat candidate.

LG is yet to confirm anything officially as regards G4 Nougat update plans, but we weren’t expecting the company to make the announcement either, because it’s not anymore the latest top device from LG, which is G5.

For now, Android 6.0.1 software updates are available, and becoming available more and more, with security patches and such fixes.

Today, we got wind of the new G4 update at T-Mobile, carrying the build no. H81120p. The update brings in Android security patch, bug fixes and some other enhancements.

How to Install LG G4 Firmware

Supported Models

LG G4, model no. D815 (international model)

Don’t try this on any other variant of G4 or any other phone whatsoever!

Installing an official firmware through LG flashtool doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1. Make sure you have latest LG Drivers installed. It’s required so there is proper communication between phone and PC.

Step 2. Enable USB debugging on your device. For this:

Step 3. Download the firmware file from above.

Also download: Flashtool and Visual C++ Runtime Library.

Step 4. Install the Visual C++ Runtime Library so that Flashtool works fine.

Step 5. Extract the Flashtool file. you will have the files as shown below.

Step 6. Put your LG G4 into download mode now. To do this:

Power Off your phone

Now, while pressing both volume buttons, connect your phone to PC using the USB cable. In a moment, G4 will boot into download mode, with Firmware Update written at top. Drivers could start installing on PC, let them. And btw, if this process fails in your first attempt, try again.

Step 7. Now transfer the firmware file .kdz format to the LG Flashtool 2014 folder. We need it in the same folder we have the chúng tôi that’s why.

Step 9. On flashtool, make sure that option selected under ‘Select Type’ dropdown is CDMA. And that PhoneMode is DIAG.

Step 11. Make an important selection now, between what kind of installation you are looking for, Normal Flash or CSE Flash.

CSE Flash deletes everything, like apps and games, their data and even the internal storage, thus preferred when you have custom ROM installed currently, while Normal flash keeps your data but is recommended only if you are already on LG firmware and have not modified it.

Choose CSE Flash for proper installation, but if you are not on custom ROM, you can safely choose normal flash.

Step 13. You will get a new screen, where you need to select the Country and Language. Before this, though, it’s best to disconnect from Internet. And also, disable your Antivirus software on PC.

Now that you have successfully flashed the firmware, reboot your phone if it doesn’t automatically. The first restart will take more time than usual, so have patience.

Update Kb3124262 For Windows 10 Woes: Failed Installs, Reboots & More

Update KB3124262 for Windows 10 Woes: Failed Installs, Reboots & More

Windows 10 cumulative update KB3124262 has been released today, and users are experiencing problems even before they installed it. Actually, the update fails to install for some users.

Well this is not a so unexpected issue, because cumulative updates occasionally fail to install, so if you’re not familiar with the situation, this isn’t the first time users have problems with downloading a cumulative update. But, just because this isn’t the first time, Microsoft should already come up with a fix, which isn’t the case.

After the installation of KB3124262 fails, you’ll be offered to install the update over and over again, so it’s an endless circle. And unless you remove the patch, you’re going to get the error message all the time.

Here’s what one user reported on Microsoft forums:

“The two most recent Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64 System KB3124262 and KB3124263 have downloaded Ok but on Restart they have each frozen my computer at 30%. After waiting for an hour or so I forced a reboot on both occasions. Computer then rebooted Ok, but both Cumulative updates still sit in Windows Update awaiting a restart, even though the computer has been restarted many times.”

There are users who say that this update failed to install and gave error 0x80070020:

Both the previous cumulative update (KB3124263) and the most recent (KB3124262) fail to install and show error 0x80070020. I’ve run the various Windows troubleshooters and the bat that resets the Update History but the update still fails.

We don’t have a workaround for this issue right now, and as we learned from past, Microsoft probably won’t deliver a fix. But the good thing with this update is that it’s a cumulative update, which means that the next cumulative update will contain all bug fixes and improvements from this update, so maybe the best option is to just wait for the next cumulative update for Windows 10.

Other issues caused by KB3124262

Failed installs aren’t the single errors caused by this specific update. There are Windows 10 users complaining about how their Start button became inoperable:

When the latest windows cumulative updates install my start button becomes inoperable until I uninstall the updates. Windows continues to automatically reinstall them however which requires frequent uninstalling, does anybody have suggestions on what I should do.

Somebody else says he is getting the 0x8e5e0152 error:

I’m not able to install the new Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems KB3124262. Got Error code 0X8E5E0152. Need assistance.

There are users who say that after installing KB3124262 on their Windows 10 laptop, they get continously prompted to reboot the system. One user is complaining that his desktop is gone, however weird that might sound:

Auto-installed this today and my desktop is gone. Instead I have three tiles in the middle of the screen and all of the Win icons are gone. When I find the link to the desktop in the windows thingy in the lower left corner it does nothing. Everything (browsers, applications) all launch in full screen mode and can not be resized or moved around. New icons all over the screen that do nothing or just take you back to your three special tiles.

There are even users who said they lost files, pictures, and download folders after installing KB3124262 update on Windows 10. There are several who claim that this particular update has disabled their Elan touchpad.

However, if you really want to install cumulative update KB3124262 on your computer, you can try to install it manually by downloading a x86 version from this link, or x64 from this link.

Fix: Malwarebytes Won’t Update On Windows 10

FIX: Malwarebytes won’t update on Windows 10

Many users had encountered the error message: Malwarebytes won’t install in Windows 10.

This error can be fixed once a user installs the latest updates for the Malwarebytes software.

Be sure to check the settings in your Windows Firewall if this anti-malware program doesn’t update.

Using third-party software fixes the error when Malwarebytes fails to update.

ESET Antivirus comes with all the security tools that you may ever need to protect your data and privacy, including:

Anti-theft support

Webcam protection

Intuitive setup and UI

Multi-platform support

Banking-level encryption

Low system requirements

Advanced anti-malware protection

An antivirus program needs to be fast, efficient, and cost-effective, and this one has them all.

The all-around protective nature of Malwarebytes put it at the top of the free antivirus tools market. The main Malwarebytes suite, besides dealing with those pesky viruses, also deals with PuPs and adware.

With both free and premium variations of the suite. However, the integration with Windows 10 (like with so many 3rd-party solutions) is failing users.

Namely, some of them are unable to update the Malwarebytes client, even after multiple tries.

We conveyed a search and provided you with some viable solutions. Give them a try and inform us if they work.

1. Install updates manually

Firstly, we need you to do one thing before installing updates manually. The first thing you should do is confirm that Windows Defender is disabled.

Two antimalware services with real-time protection enabled and working at the same time isn’t exactly a good idea.

2. Check Windows Firewall

Another thing worth inspecting is Windows Firewall. As we already mentioned in the preceding step, a major update can really make some essential changes to your system.

This includes meddling with your Firewall permissions. Some users reported instances when their VPN didn’t work as it was blocked by the Windows Firewall.

For that reason, we encourage you to navigate to Windows Firewall settings and allow Malwarebytes to freely communicate to an update server.

3. Use third-party software

When you encounter the issue when Malwarebytes won’t install in Windows 10, we recommend third-party software that will solve this problem.

There is a chance your operating system might be infected with viruses or malware.

Hence, using professional tools should clean your computer of any malicious apps and leave it in an optimized state.

Once the software has scanned and cleaned your Windows 10 of viruses, you are free to either use Malwarebytes again or keep using this application.

Expert tip:

Your privacy may also be compromised by unauthorized third parties.

⇒ Get ESET Internet Security

4. Update Windows

And, as a final note, we must remind you of the most usual cause of failing updates. Major Windows 10 updates are known for breaking third-party tools.

Most reports regarding the Malwarebytes updating issues emerged after a major update (specifically, Creators Update).

With that in mind, you should install system patches and updates as soon as possible. Hopefully, one of them should help you resolve the issue at hand.

To make sure that all updates are on point, we encourage you to check for updates manually. Follow the steps shown in this solution to check for Windows 10 updates.

5. Reinstall Malwarebytes

Download Malwarebytes Cleanup Utility.

Run the tool and accept the EULA terms.

The tool with start with the uninstall procedure and will, eventually, ask for a reboot.

Restart your PC.

After the restart, choose to install the latest version of Malwarebytes.

Now, if you’ve ever installed a previous version of Malwarebytes (or any other antimalware software), the remaining associated files might corrupt the current installation.

Thus, some of the main features might not work as intended. This requires a complete reinstallation of the application.

But, as we already stated, the antivirus integrates much deeper than your usual third-party program. That’s why the good folks from Malwarebytes offer a special tool that should help you clean all the associated files.

Afterward, you can install the Malwarebytes suite and, hopefully, be able to update without any issues.

Finally, you can use the log file to share your concerns with the developer. You can post it as an attachment on the official forum. If the prior steps failed to resolve the issue, of course.

⇒ Get Malwarebytes

That’s it. If you’re still plagued by the same error and unable to retrieve the latest updates from Malwarebytes, make sure to share your concerns on their dedicated forum.

4 Ways To Uninstall Windows 10 Update And 3 Tips To Prepare For It

It’s a bitter fact that Windows 10 updates can often cause more problems than they solve, hence we wouldn’t be surprised if you were looking to uninstall a recently installed Windows update.

Right off the bat, though, we should warn you that uninstalling major Windows updates is not something you should take lightly. While this article will show you how you can do so, we take no responsibility for any damages that may occur as a result of it.

Related: How to recover files using Winfr Windows File Recovery tool on Windows 10

Here are some things to do before jumping the gun as uninstalling a Windows update may not turn out as planned.

The first thing you want to do before uninstalling a Windows update is figuring out which update you actually want to uninstall. Microsoft pushes out updates in four basic categories: Quality Updates, Driver Updates, Definition Updates, and Other Updates.

To get a list of the latest updates installed on your device, follow this simple guide.

From the Settings window, select ‘Update & Security’.

At the end of the update title, you will find the KB number of the update. Take note of the KB number for the update that you want to uninstall.

2. Back up your device

This is probably the most important step. Since you are in fact tinkering with the device’s operating system, it is always a good idea to back up all your files to a drive. The easy way to do this is by simply plugging in an external storage device and copying the files you want to back up.

Even if you don’t want to use the Backup option as given above, simply copy the important files and folders you have to a pen drive or portable drive to have a one-time secure backup with you before playing with Windows update.

3. Create a restore point

Another important thing to do (if you haven’t already), is to create a restore point. Creating a restore point enables you to return to this point, should anything untoward happen to your device.

Here are different methods to know if you are looking to uninstall Windows update.

You can uninstall any minor updates to your system quite easily. Now that you have your KB number, follow this simple guide below.

Once you uninstall an update, you should always restart your device for the changes to take effect.

Note: You will notice that not all updates give you the option to uninstall them. Some updates are stubborn. Read on to learn how to uninstall these updates too.

If you already had a System Restore Point set up, you can use it to roll back your device to a previous Windows version. Rolling back a Windows update will not affect your personal files, but it is still a good idea to backup your files.

To restore your system to a previous version, follow this guide below.

In the new window select ‘Open System Restore’.

Now select the restore point that you had created previously. The System Restore Point will have the date of creation in its title, so you know which one you are restoring.

3. Use Advanced startup

Advanced Startup is part of Windows’ troubleshooting options. You can do a lot with Advanced Startup. It is primarily used if your Windows has problems booting up. Using Advanced startup, you can restore your device to a previous Restore point, or even create a system restore point itself. Note: Using Advanced Startup will restart your PC. Make sure you save your work before going ahead.

Your device will shut down and then restart in Advanced Startup.

4. Use Command Prompt

Using Command Prompt is the fastest way to uninstall a Windows update. However, since it provides no graphical user interface, you need to know the exact KB number of your update. To uninstall a Windows update using Command Prompt we will be using WUSA (Windows Update Standalone Installer)

Now type in the following command.

wusa /uninstall /KB:Update number

Input the KB update number of the update that you would like to uninstall and hit enter. For example:

wusa /uninstall /KB:4561600

WUSA will uninstall the update and let you know when it is completed.

You can actually prevent updates from installing automatically. Here’s how to disable automatic updates on your Windows PC.

To prevent Windows from updating your system, follow this guide below.

Under ‘Pause updates’ select the date till which you would like to prevent Windows from updating. The maximum you can set is 35 days. After that, you will have to install updates before pausing them again.
