4.8M Vehicle Fiat Chrysler Recall After Cruise Control Refuses To Turn Off
4.8m vehicle Fiat Chrysler recall after cruise control refuses to turn off
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is warning owners of 4.8 million vehicles in the US not to use cruise control, after discovering a flaw that could leave drivers unable to deactivate it. A recall is underway for all of the vehicles, which span FCA’s Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram lines, and include sedans, SUVs, and pickups.
The issue, the automaker insists, depends on “extraordinary circumstances” taking place, according to Mark Chernoby, Fiat Chrysler’s chief technical compliance officer. When a car is traveling uphill with cruise control enabled, the system automatically accelerators to maintain the speed that has been set. If that coincides with a short-circuit in a specific electrical network, it turns out, the driver of the car would be left unable to turn the cruise control off.
“However, if this sequence of events were to occur, cruise-control acceleration can be overpowered by the vehicle’s brakes,” FCA points out. “The vehicle may also be stopped by shifting it into neutral and braking accordingly. Regardless of the mitigation strategy, the vehicle may be placed in park once it has stopped, at which point cruise-control is cancelled.”
According to Fiat Chrysler, no crashes or injuries have been recorded in relation to the cruise control problem. However, the automaker is aware of at least one report of a driver unable to turn cruise control off. That happened in a 2023 Dodge Journey, which had been supplied as a rental car.
The full list of affected vehicles in the US can be found below. It spans the 2014 to 2023 model years, and includes popular models like the Ram 1500 pickup truck, Chrysler Pacifica minivan, and Jeep Wrangler SUV. All are gasoline powered and have automatic transmissions.
Together, the 4.8m vehicles impacted “account for more than 200 billion travel miles,” the automaker says, presumably to point out that the issue is particularly rare. FCA says that it already has a remedy for the issue, which involves installing new software to the Powertrain Control Module. That’s the device which, among other things, is responsible for handling cruise control.
“We have a remedy and a widespread network of engaged dealers who are preparing to deliver service,” FCA’s Chernoby says. The fix will, unsurprisingly, be installed free of charge, and the automaker will begin alerting those customers affected from next week. They’ll need to book an appointment with their FCA dealer, since there’s no facility for upgrading the hardware with an OTA update.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has weighed in too, adding its own recommendation that it “strongly encourages vehicle owners to follow” FCA’s warning.

Auto Lockdown Your Pc After Certain Number Of Invalid Logon Attempts
Most of us use an account password to protect our Windows computers, and sometimes no matter how strong the password you are using, it doesn’t stop those people who are desperate to try to guess your Windows logon password. To make matters worse, they may even succeed with few tries if you are using easy-to-guess passwords to secure your Windows computer. If you want to avoid those kinds of awkward situations, here is how you can get your PC to auto lockdown after a certain number of invalid logon attempts on your Windows machine.
Note: While this tip is helpful in protecting your Windows computer from wild password guesses and brute force attacks, it can’t protect your Windows computer from resetting its password by other means (like using live CD).
Temporarily Lock Your PC1. Before doing anything, let’s check if there are any pre-set thresholds on your Windows computer. To do that, open your command prompt as admin (press “Win + X” and select “Command Prompt (admin)” ) and enter the following command:
Once you execute the above command, the command prompt will display your current account security policy. If there is no previous threshold set, then you should see the value “Lockout threshold” set to “Never.”
2. To temporarily lock your PC after a certain number of invalid logon attempts, we are going to modify a couple of Windows local security policies. First, press “Win + X” and select “Control Panel” from the list of options.
3. Select “Administrative Tools.” Also ensure that “view by” is set to large or small icons.
Once everything is done, your Local security policy window will look something like this.
Alternatively, you can also confirm the changes using the command prompt method show above:
Once executed, you will see that the “Lockout threshold” is set to 10 attempts and duration and reset window is set to 30 minutes each.
That’s all there is do. From now on, your Windows machine will block any user after a certain number of invalid logon attempts effectively blocking password guesses and brute force attacks.

Why Does Android Randomly Restart?
A common question Android users may ask is “Why does my Android randomly restart itself?” At one point or another, every Android device I’ve owned has had this problem. There are a few common reasons your Android might restart on its own. Let’s take a look at them and see if we can fix it.
Cause #1 – Bad AppsIn most cases, random restarts are caused by a poor quality app. Try uninstalling apps you don’t use. Be sure the apps you do use are reliable, especially the apps that handle email or text messaging. My wife recently discovered her Galaxy S22 would restart sometimes when receiving a text message. Switching from the Verizon Messaging app to Hangouts for text messaging fixed that issue.
You may also have an app running in the background that is causing the Android to randomly restart. When a background app is the suspected cause, try the following, preferably in the order listed:
Uninstall apps you don’t necessarily need. This goes especially for any apps that control sound, ringtones, wallpaper, have fancy widgets, or use GPS.
Cause #2 – System Apps Are Disabled Cause #3 – OverheatingMany Android devices are designed to shut off automatically if they become too hot. If you have your device out on a 100 degree day while trying to use 4G, GPS, and the screen is set to the brightest setting, it might restart itself or shut down. Try to take it easy and maybe disable features you don’t need.
Overheating shutdowns shouldn’t be a regular problem though. If your device is overheating regularly, contact the retailer or manufacturer about it.
Cause #4 – Loose BatteryOf course, this problem only occurs on devices with a removable battery. My Droid 1 and Samsung Galaxy S4 were notorious for suddenly restarting. Sometimes they would shut off and never turn back on. It turned out that in both cases, the battery was coming a bit loose. Just a slight jab at the device would quickly unseat, then re-seat the battery, causing it to reset.
The most common reason for this is the rear cover has become slightly bent and is no longer holding the battery into place. Another reason is the gold battery connectors are bent out of shape. Over time, the connectors may get worn down.
There are two ways to tackle a problem with a loose battery:
Cause #5 – Corrupted System Software Cause #6 – Stuck Button
Sometimes the “Power” button can get some water or gunk stuck in it. Be sure that nothing is jammed in the button opening. Try cleaning your buttons with a lightly dampened cloth. Also check to make sure your case is not putting pressure on any buttons.
Cause #7 – Defective HardwareIf everything above has been tried and your Android is still randomly restarting itself, you may just have a bad device. Contact the retailer or manufacturer about the problem. You may not have that option if you have a custom Android ROM installed. In that case, you may want to take your question to the maker of your particular ROM.
FAQMy Android is low on battery power and restarts when plugged in. Why is it doing this?
You are likely not giving the device enough power. Ensure you use the correct power adapter and cable and plug the Android into a wall outlet, not a computer or other device with USB ports.
