Four years ago, NASA launched its OSIRIS-REx spacecraft from Cape Canaveral. Two years ago, the spacecraft finally reached its target of the carbon-rich, Earth-adjacent asteroid Bennu. Today, OSIRIS-REx (the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer) will fulfill its original mission and collect a rock and dust sample of at least two ounces from the asteroid—the largest sample of its kind ever collected.
The mission has been no easy feat for the NASA engineers involved. The engineers selected Bennu out of 500,000 potential asteroids in the Solar System because of its proximity to the Earth, relatively slow rotation, carbon-heavy chemical composition, and large diameter of approximately 500 meters. After selecting the asteroid, the engineers charted a course for the craft and, roughly two years after the launch in September of 2023, it began to orbit the asteroid. For the past two years, OSIRIS-REx has been in orbit, taking photographs and 3D scans of the asteroid’s surface to measure its temperature, rock mineral content, and x-ray emissions. Bennu is the smallest object that any NASA spacecraft has ever orbited.
The sample collected today could hold important information that will allow scientists to better understand the origins of life on Earth. The sample might also be used for more practical purposes, like determining whether it’s possible to use the material that comprises asteroids like Bennu to sustain human life on Mars or other planets. When the spacecraft finally returns the sample to Earth in 2023, it will be studied extensively for years to come.
OSIRIS-REx will use a robotic arm called TAGSAM (Touch and Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism) to grab a fistful of loose dust and rock called regolith from the surface of the asteroid without ever actually landing. The spacecraft has plenty of time and enough fuel for three attempts at collecting a sample from the asteroid.
“It’s a very safe way (if such a thing exists) to retrieve a sample from an asteroid,” Rich Kuhns, Lockheed Martin’s OSIRIS-REx project manager, told Popular Science before the initial launch of the spacecraft in 2023. “Since you just have to be in contact with the asteroid, the technology allows us to collect our sample in only 3 to 5 seconds.”
However, the collection mission isn’t so simple as OSIRIS-REx just reaching out from its orbit and grabbing a bunch of rock. The collection site is hazardous, and NASA engineers will be issuing instructions to the spacecraft from Earth, which it will carry out autonomously. The craft is also designed with these hazards in mind and will perform several automatic functions to ensure that the mission is successful.
“The solar panels will pull back safely away so they can’t touch Bennu’s surface,” said Roger Harris, who served as Project Manager for OSIRIS-REx work at IV&V, in a NASA post. “The Natural Feature Tracking system will enable the spacecraft to pull back before the spacecraft is in danger of colliding with a hazardous area of the ‘Nightingale’ landing site, which while our best option for gathering surface material, is surrounded by massive mission-ending boulders.”
You can watch live coverage of the mission tonight starting at 5pm EDT. If all goes well and the sample is collected by OSIRIS-REx without a hitch, the spacecraft will still have quite a long way to go before it’s received at home. Because of differences in orbital alignments, it will not begin its return journey until 2023. Then, the spacecraft should travel home and touch down in Utah with its sample in 2023.

Watch Your Favorite Tiktok Over And Over By Setting It As A Live Wallpaper
If you have yet to jump on the TikTok train, maybe this will convince you: you can use one of the platform’s millions of videos as a live wallpaper for your phone’s home and lock screens. That means that instead of a motionless image, you’ll have a video running behind all your app icons.
If you’ve recently upgraded to Android 12, you’ll find this among the system’s wallpaper options. If you’re an iPhone user, the process is not as intuitive, but it’s even simpler.
Keep in mind that not all videos on the platform can become live wallpapers—their availability will depend on whether the creator allows other users to download them. Also, having a video playing in the background will drain your battery much faster than a photo, so remember that when you have to plug in your device before the end of the day.
Still, worth it.
How to set a TikTok video as a live wallpaper on an Android phoneSetting a TikTok video as a live wallpaper on an Android phone is easy but requires a lot of steps. Just open TikTok, find a video you like, tap the three dots on the right side of the screen, and hit the Set as wallpaper option. The app will then prompt you to download the wallpaper plugin from Google Play.
Open the plugin app and tap on Open TikTok to set wallpaper. When you do, a full-screen preview of the video will play, and if it looks good to you, you can tap Set as wallpaper, followed by Set wallpaper at the bottom of your screen. Android will then ask you to choose whether you want to set the video as your home screen background, or if you also want it on your lock screen.
[Related: Fix your boring Android background with live wallpapers]
This last setting is important. Your phone will remember your pick and use it every time you choose a new live wallpaper. If you want to change it, you won’t be able to do so easily: you’ll need to go to Wallpaper & style (long press on an empty space on your home screen), set an image as your background, and then open the TikTok app to repeat the live wallpaper process. Another limitation is that you can’t have a live wallpaper only on your lock screen—it’s either your home screen alone or both.
Your live wallpapers will be saved in a gallery inside the TikTok plugin. To open it, tap the icon, then Open TikTok to set wallpaper. From there, you can also adjust the background’s settings: tap the cog icon in the upper right corner of your screen and use the slider to change the volume, or tap the toggle switch next to Double-tap to pause video to gain the ability to do just that. To delete a file, open the plugin, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and choose Delete.
You can also access your live wallpaper gallery through the Android 12 interface. Just long press on any empty space on your home screen, choose Wallpaper & style, and then go to Change wallpaper. There, scroll down to find the videos under the TikTok logo. You can’t change the wallpaper settings here, and you’ll notice the app’s integration with Google’s latest operating system update is not seamless, as you won’t be able to see a preview of a video until you tap on it. Before you do that, you’re stuck with TikTok icons that give you absolutely no clue to which file is which.
How to set a TikTok video as your lock screen on an iPhone
On iPhones, there’s no TikTok-based path that makes it easy to set videos as a wallpaper. Still, because you have fewer options, the process might be even simpler than it is on Android.
When you find the video you want on TikTok, tap the Share button (the curved arrow) and select Live photo. This is basically the iOS version of a live wallpaper, but because it’s considered an image, the operating system will automatically save it to a new folder (conveniently called Live photos) within the Photos app.
To set it as a background, follow the same path you would use with a regular picture: go to Settings, Wallpaper, and Choose a wallpaper. There, scroll to the right folder, select the file you want, tap Set, and select where you want to use it.
[Related: Customize your iPhone by ditching these boring default settings]
There are two caveats when it comes to live photos on iOS. The first is that they only animate as lock screen backgrounds. If you choose to set a video for both home and lock screens, you’ll be stuck with the first frame as your home screen background. If you try to start it up with a long press on your home screen, your iPhone will think you’re trying to edit your apps. The second drawback is that unlike Android, the live wallpaper will not play automatically on your lock screen—you’ll have to press and hold for playback to begin.
Still, having a live wallpaper is a great idea if you want something fun to look at whenever you check your notifications or simply want to blow the uninitiated minds of those who have only ever seen static backgrounds.

Smart Device Specs Are Over, Long Live The Ecosystem
Smart device specs are over, long live the ecosystem
Over the past couple of quarters, Nokia has been beaten by Samsung as the largest mobile phone seller in the world – this record was held by Nokia for 14 years before 2012. The iPhone 5 is doing extremely well, selling 5 million units opening weekend, this is a quarter the number of Galaxy S III units sold in 100 days (as shown in the link above) – the iPhone 5 has overtaken the Galaxy S III in mobile web traffic and was announced by Apple to be the fastest selling phone in history.
Apple has been working this angle since 2007 – or you could argue even before the iPhone was released with the iPod working exclusively with iTunes on Mac computers. Sony has an empire of cameras, gaming devices, and music playing pocketables that use their own cords and memory cards exclusively.
But that’s not the future – and it’s not the same as a software ecosystem.
The most important difference between manufacturing your device’s own cords and creating software that works with your device exclusively is breakage. We’ve heard complaints about proprietary equipment being broken and having to be replaced for large amounts of cash in the past. We’ve also seen massive crowds of users getting wild over their device’s exclusive network being knocked out.
One is not better than the other in a negative sense – there’s always going to be a major down side to creating the system around your hero device yourself, be it software or hardware. Having your own software, your own media network, your own app, music, movies, and digital book sales system though – that has a far more vast system of benefits than creating your own hardware ecosystem.
Create and require a new peripheral that your device requires to function and the only thing you can do to upgrade is to create a whole new peripheral. Create software that interacts with your device and you simply have to update that software – and you can do it as many times as you like. Software is the gift that keeps its ability to give – and it creates a lot less litter too, mind you.
The brand power increases as well with each new app specific to a family of devices. The iPhone 5 now with a brand new cord doesn’t sell nearly as well as The iPhone 5 now with a major upgrade to Siri. Samsung is aware of this – that’s why the Galaxy S III was Samsung’s coming-of-age, complete with a standard look and feel across the planet as well as a lovely little collection of Samsung-specific apps inside: and sharing abilities, too.
Nokia understands this too, and as they launch their family with Windows Phone 8 and Microsoft, a group that’s more than just a little aware of the power of branding, they stand a chance of grabbing hold of the public’s interest. Now we just have to see if the peak of smartphone evolution sticks, or if we’ll continue to improve devices beyond the point at which we humans can even detect their changes.
How To Use The Xbox Live App For Windows Pc
The Xbox App for Windows 11/10 is looking like a true winner, something worthy of regular use by gamers all around the world. The app brings to the table many of the features that make Xbox Live unique and fun to use. However, it doesn’t come with the biggest con Xbox Live faces, and that’s the $60 price tag to play online.
Xbox Live app for Windows PC How does the Xbox One app stack up?The most important thing about the app is the fact that users can stream Xbox One games to their PC. Just connect the console to the PC through the app, and watch the magic as any game being played on the console, begin to be streamed to the PC.
This is great for when you might want to go outside with your laptop for a while, or if your living room television is shared with others in the house.
The problem here is that it is not yet possible to stream games outside of your local network. It means that going to your friend’s house a few blocks down the road in hopes of showing off the new streaming trick, will not work.
When it comes down to how the app performs overall, we can’t complain. Though we should point out that a slow computer might have difficulties, so bear that in mind.
How to use the Xbox appThe Xbox app for Windows 10 is different from the one for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It is more gaming focused now, in fact, everything about it is gaming focused. On the left-hand side, users should see a pain of icons with words beside them. They allow the app to do all the great things it does.
For example, the Home button brings the user to the home screen of the app. Here gamers can view all the activities from anyone on their friends list. If a person earns an Achievement, Gamerscore, or just happened to share a video, it will all show up here.
The My Games section shows the games in the user’s library. It can be games from the Windows Store or more traditional games from Steam or other platforms.
Another thing we like is Game DVR. With this, users can record the best scenes in their video game and share them with their friends. The big upside to this feature and the one on the Xbox One is the fact that gamers can record for longer periods.
Users can even use Game DVR to view videos from others in the community. Right now we are watching a few guys performing neat tricks with a bike in Grand Theft Auto 6.
On the right side of the app, we get to see the pane where all folks on your friends list will show up. If they are offline, you will know, if they are online, you will know.
There’s a settings option on the left pane. From there, users can decide if they want the Xbox Live app to have a Live tile or a static one. You can also choose to be notified when your favorite friends start a Twitch broadcast, or how Game DVR works in the background.
Not every PC is capable of recording games in the background, so keep that in mind.
Overall, the Xbox Live app is great, and we hope to see Microsoft add more features in the future.

Artificial Intelligence In Live Streaming
You may have experienced Artificial Intelligence (AI) in your life without indeed realizing it. For illustration, Facebook, Twitter, and Google utilize fake insights to guarantee that clients have a consistent involvement on their stages, whether it’s naturally labeling companions in photographs or giving comes about based on past searches. If you think the same, or you have a desire to develop in the field of streaming, you can buy real YouTube subscribers to become more popular and be a celebrity.
These employments of AI are generally basic and include as it were innovation: machine learning (ML). To the foremost portion, ML is becoming increasingly well-known, but what about its huge brother, deep learning (DL), and limited AI? How can it possibly make gushing administrations that we never need to live without?
AI vs. ML vs. DLArtificial Intelligence (AI) — is a field that has become increasingly popular in recent years. The field itself is vast and covers a wide range of topics. The general idea behind AI is for computers to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence (HI). F.e., visual perception and speech processing.
Nowadays, ML is a common application of AI solutions. This involves training an algorithm on large data sets and applying it to new information. F.e., ML algorithms are used for tasks such as face recognition, spam filtering, and language translation.
AI-based solutions that make streaming video personalized for usersFor the uninitiated, pertainsains to computer programs that are designed to perform tasks related to human intelligence. The term covers a wide range of apps, including voice recognition and content filtering. AI is also sometimes synonymously with ML or deep learning (DL). Tasks that can be performed with AI include image recognition and language processing — identifying objects in photos, respectively, and translating text from one language to another.
Why do live broadcasts need AI?The number of people watching live broadcasts is growing rapidly around the world, and AI may play a vital role in the future development of live broadcasts. Let’s take a look at this.
Live streaming has become a powerful tool for communication and entertainment. It seems to be a “new way to communicate” after email, messaging, SMS and WeChat.
AI does much more than live streamingOn the other hand, AI technology is also rapidly evolving nowadays. In particular, artificial intelligence algorithms are finding apps in many fields: marketing, finance, education, medicine, etc. In addition, artificial intelligence has become optional for unmanned vehicles: cars, guided missiles, and drones to make decisions on their own without human control.
This process includes the use of live video in prerecorded video or images. What makes live video different from other video-sharing services is that it is recorded in one take. It doesn’t need to be changed at all; what you write is what you get.
Can I use AI to make live streaming way more efficient? The answer is yes. Here are some of the ways:1. AI can provide operational analytics to improve performance, and can help you get a better understanding of how people respond to your live broadcast. That’s why bloggers don’t always buy YouTube subscribers, but they also keep track on Metrics.
2. One makes it easier to find your content. If you’re using social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to promote, AI can help you find the best time to post your content so more users see it.
3. Indexing content to improve user interaction. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, found a way to integrate AI with human curators to improve the cataloging of video content, thereby providing an even better user experience.
How AI solutions improve user privacy policy security Artificial intelligence and security of devicesAI is a huge origin of safety for devices such as phones and televisions. It provides a better response to commands and better control over these devices. It can also learn and educate from experience. These features are embedded in some programs, such as Siri, that we have on our phones. With this app, we can naturally interact with our device by giving voice commands that Siri understands, and it will perform the requested action for us in seconds.
AI for software protectionIn the case of software, AI-based solutions will secure your system and prevent unauthorized access. The software will run in learning mode every time a user tries to access the system. It will learn from its past experiences and change itself so that no one can crack the system.
